Dude, for most of the competitive players it IS more than a game. =/ I devote over half of my free time to a GAME? Plze
lol, lots of people DO devote their entire free times to games... it's not unusual. Look at the MMORPG community. Having fun with a hobby like that is fine.

But still, nothing wrong with comming to a game for the prizes, but it IS wrong to insult and try to degrade people that didn't start the game for the prizes.

lol your one to talk
you do realize your a POKEMON PROFFESSOR...
if anyone needs to get a life its you
All I did was take a test and pass it. Not devote my whole career to winning Pokemon battles.

And you do realize that you're insulting every professor here, right?

When I go to a tournament, of course I play to win. But, even if I don't win a single game, I can walk away knowing I had a great time playing and talking to friends I normally don't see otherwise. This is what people mean about playing for fun.

That's a great way of thinking of it.

But that still don't give anyone the right to say that casual players don't even need to be playing at all...

Of course there needs to be casual players. I don't think anyone meant that they didn't want casual players to be playing at all.

People are different. No offense to anyone, but if I just wanted to have a good time and chill casually, I wouldn't want to go play Pokemon. I'd rather go play Jitz, shoot some pool, go bowling, go drinking etc..
Playing Poker is borderline casual/competitive for me..

I enjoy the competitive level in Pokemon and I wouldn't play at all if I was going 1-4 at tourneys.
I'm not even a competitive person usually.
In Jitz, I can go like 4-20 on some nights and still have fun just chilling. Probably cause I prolly won't ever be able to compete with those ricers who play every day and fail at school and also I can't compete with my friends who've played for years while I've only played less than 1 year, but I still have fun playing. Usually, I'm more around .500 when I play, and I still enjoy it.

If I was always .500 in Pokemon, I would quit and ebay my cards.

Just different games.

Just different games? Ya so many games treat you so much better than pokemon. YGO o yea i got an invite to nationals but with pokemon they allow travel awards and travel allowances and open event. But its not always about prizes. I heard someone say on this post they played for prizes. There was a game called the spoils that i played for prizes because i won 250$ in a 8 person draft. The game stunk so i said its not worth it. Play because you like it not for prizes. Play for fun and be rewarded to earn prizes. Everyone talks about competetive but honestly pokemon is more competetive in premier events. In league i attack and i go o yea before i attack and end im gonna play this stadium. Now league really isn't to competetive its for badges, pop packs, testing decks before a tournament, new players to come and learn and have fun with people, meet friends. Now if someone attacked me and forgot to play a stadium its league not a big deal i would let them do it. But in a premier event i doubt anyone would do that. For premier events you wanna show a more competetive side, you wanna win that tournament, and you wanna be that city champion. You have something to prove. Last year pokemon was fun and competetive and it will be the same this year.

The title of this thread is "Pokemon Fun & Competetive". GDog has put it out there for discussion and quite a discussion this has been.

Competitive, fun, passionate, serious..... are all ways that people approach life's challenges - specifically with games/sports etc.

I've read the thread and am not in the business of countering or bashing. I like to just put thoughts out there so people can pause and reflect on different points of view and opinions.

GDog is right on. At league, that is where the hook is for the younger kids. It is where PUI fosters and grows the next generation of competetive players. Kids (5-10) are for the most part, wanting to have fun, play tough battles, make some friends, eat some candy..... We adults need to foster the spirit of the game of fun and competitive - no matter which sport or game.

I agree that the winnings at Premier events is outstanding and Pokemon does a fantastic job with this. I agree that being passionate and competitive is just great. Who wouldn't want $$$, prizes, etc.

The take away from me is that people need to try and be tolerant and foster those that play the game different than you. Other than that, everyone has there own reason for playing.

As a father of a worlds competitor, the most important thing was that my son (10-) had fun. Yes he is competetive BUT he had fun doing it.

Think of the kids.......

PokeDaddy

ps As GDog knows, I don't take kindly of bashing or flaming so keep it civil. You want to tilt at me, do it via PM.

People play for fun, to win, and just to make friends. That's three reasons people play in the first place. I just like the game in general. Winning is nice, but I usually see my friends that are far from me, which is a good thing. I'm also always up for new challenges.

But in this season, I'm trying to be more competitive than the past three seasons.

Oh my god these threads just SHIVER ME TIMBERS.

What the heck is everybody's problem? Charking, you always post on the subject of how competitive people frustrate you, and diminish the overall fun of the game for you. Then, why are you trying to tell competitive people to lay off those who play for 'fun versus glory'... you keep on putting people who do try to win down; some people who play this game do consider it a sport, they attempt their best to win, and hey, PUI knows this, otherwise why do you think they give prizes in the first place? Just so a random person will win every event and there will be no 'one champion', you know that's untrue because there a load of competitions that have a purpose of determining the best of the 'insert region here'. You also keep on complaining how every competitive player belittles those who play just for fun. Well talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

It's also wrong to insult and try to degrade people that DO play the game for the competition and the prizes (then again, 18 packs for a 1st place cc isn't that much).

I guess in charking's world, being competitive in pokemon doesn't equate to having fun. I can't have fun when I finally beat my rivals after a year of taking loss after loss to them. I can't have fun when I worked for months on a deck and have that CC medal hanging around my neck, simply because I put effort into winning. I can't have fun when I discovered the tech that destroys every deck in the format and go undefeated because of it. Yah, that's not fun.

That's a lie, I never intentionally try to put anyone down that don't put me down first. I'm just very vengeful and I'm not gonna stop till the discrimination stops. I want everyone to get along and play the game their own way.

Is that so wrong?

Since the new rules and ways to get to worlds was out to the public i've seen so many people complain about the tcg. I've seen posts where people have been so angry they will quit due to invite and prize structure. This shouldnt make players so angry and quit or do something stupid.

I'm generalizing that kids who play pokemon aren't good at anything else and TCG Worlds was their only chance to be good at something on a noticeable level. ( I have seen like 3 normal kids in pictures from events but when I went to HP pre-release there wasnt a person there that wasnt fat/nerdy/***/weird)

That's why.

Thing is that some of you don't get it that there is a difference between being competitive and being a bad sportsmanship. You could be the most comoetitive player ever but keep the atmospere of the game friendly. I lost to a deck at one of the CC I attented that I should not have, but did I lose it, no. I am in 15+ and no offense to anyone in 11-14 or 10- but 15+ has all the really really competitive people. It becomes a whole new game. The problem is even though I am in the "adult age group" some people do not act their age. As I said before I am very competitive I go to every tournament I can. But just because I am competitive deos not make me a bad person. At my Sugarland CC mentioned in my Sig I battled one person that I beat. After the match I said good game and said "shut up you just got lucky, my deck sucks, you won't even make it to Top8" I looked at him and and just walked off. See what he said to me was being comptitive and a bad sportmanship. You can be competitive just as long as you are a good sport

^ Agree's for the most part

You can be both competitive and friendly.

15+ does not have ALL the good people.

There are 2 things I am tired of hearing:
1) Our city/state has the best players

2) 15+ is tough, everything else is easy(or something to that extent)

15+ does NOT have ALL the good players, there are many 11-14ers that I know that could easily beat 70-90% of the 15+ group(I know one who beat both Moss AND Chuck).

^Irrelevant to the topic at hand.

Charking, if competitive people take the fun out of the game for you, or whatever it is you're complaining about, don't play competitively. The like it or leave it standpoint is thought to be inherently flawed, but if you're going to continue whining about competitive play like you have for years past, the answer is simple. If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

ahhh but I a did not say that they where better as a a recently new 15+ player I can easily compare it to my 11-14 experiance. If you look at your tournament experiance as an 11-14 you will see a higher percentage of n00bs and less experianced players. In 15+ my experiance has showed a lot more higer number of competitive people

In short 15+ has more players and a larger number of really competitive players
