Star Wars: The Old Rebublic -- Monthly payment

PTCGO - No monthly Payment

Nuff said.

This is customer service 101 stuff. If you screw up, make up for it. It doesn't matter if we pay a monthly subscription fee or pay for micro purchases. Even though PTCGO is "Free to play" you can't do much of anything with the freebies. To fully enjoy the game you're expected to invest money into it. That's the whole point, to make money for TPC.

So we don't pay a monthly subscription fee? Will still buy packs, which have increased in price in part because of codes. Many of those codes were used to purchase online boosters from the HGSS-COL booster packs online. Those cards have now been rotated out of the format and can't be used in limited decks anymore. For months, those cards have sat in collections unable to be played with, and now they're worthless. Don't players at least deserve some kind of compensation for that? What about the person who invested in the game right before it went down and now has a collection of unplayable cards? Tough luck? What about Mac users who are going to miss nearly a half a season of play while they wait their turn? Too bad for them? It would be so easy for TPC to throw in a nice bonus to the playerbase, and it wouldn't cost them a dime. If anything, it would help provide an incentive for players on the borderline to get more into the game. Sorry to say, but your argument that the game is free and therefore they don't owe us anything just isn't strong enough to hold water.

Every code is bought. It's on the package, the code is part of the product. There are just more degrees of separation.

TPC > retailer > pack buyer > code buyer

vs.

Star wars TOR > customer

It's like Ninja said, some of us invested lots of money in these cards that got rotated out. I myself, as well as several of my buddies, threw in a couple hundred because we're die hard fans, and we just love the thrill of opening things. To find that they're now worthless has to be a bit of a blow. Some of us even pay more than subscription games!

packs have increased in price at some major retailers but not at all places. packs have not increased in price due to code cards. Prices have increased due to having a larger player base. Ex's have also caused packs to increase in price. The price increase is what 20 cents? If your paying more than 3.99 for a pack of cards your getting ripped off expecually if your buying them for code cards. I tend to buy boxes because its cheaper but when I do buy a pack the code card is just a bonus.

Have they said anything about not giving us anything in return? Nope. Im sure they are thinking about it.

They will most likly have different formats we just have to wait and see... but yeah i get your point.

TPC will probably give us something for waiting. Why would they announce that now when they clearly dont know when the game is going to be released.

Hopefully you're right, but their customer service track record thus far has been less than stellar.

so i just want to get this right? yall are crying over a free game that you get free codes in each pack?

So, when I started playing the TCG online this autumn.. when I didn't even collect the pokémon cards, you are saying to me that the first boost pack that I bought ONLY to get the code was free? And all those booster codes I bought online was also free? -___-

It's not free. See my and ninjadeathstrikes posts.

That's not true. Even if it was true, it isn't the crux of the argument. If they advertise it as part of the product, it's part of the product, simple as that.

I actually made a suggestion in PTCGO's forums asking that they at least consider allowing us to exchange our unopened rotated booster packs for some from newer sets as a "thank you for waiting" seeing as how PTCGO was down for a while and we didn't get a chance to do anything with these packs. I realize that there's going to be "eternal" formats where these cards will still be playable, but we all know it isn't the same thing.

Do I think they owe it to us? Absolutely not. But I do think it'd be a nice token of appreciation from them that would help increase player morale. I have no doubts that, when released, PTCGO will be exactly what players have been hoping for. Can't speak for everyone, but I'm excited!

To be honest: How many of the players of PTCGO aren't players in real life? You try to tell us that you are buying the packs for the codes and not for the cards in there? Well then sell the cards and you will come out with not much spended money for the codes ^^
Additionally it isn't comparable to other online games, cause you are paying for many of them two times... when you buy it and every month. From the money you would spent their in one or two months you can build a very competitive deck and win your own boosters and codes in real life... not bad right?

In this thread it feels like the children complaining something doesn't go the way they want it and parents try to tell them that this is life... And yet I have to play the role of the parent as an eighteen year old guy... Whoa... .
When I read through this thread I mainly read things like:
"Man PTCGO is bad because it needs such a long maintenance and they do promise things they can't hold..."
Welcome to reality, things will nearly NEVER happen as you want them to. Do you think that the PTCGO crew does it for purpose like
"Oh yeah we'll let them wait, so they begin to complain."
Don't you think they are dissapointed themself?
I think they are and if I am dissapointed about myself I wouldn't want to hear how dissapointed other people are about myself, and you wouldn't either.
Though I don't get why to be dissapointed. It's nothing special that there are bugs appearing shortly before release.
If they would have published a version with another Eviolite or Victini mistake in the program everybody would complain again and then they would say they should have taken more time for it.
It is an online simulator for a card game you could also play at home... I can't understand why people are sitting there and waiting for it to appear, but i can understand that this is frustrating.
If you have nothing to do, go play outside or do something else, check PTCGO every few hours and if it isn't up yet go again...
It is much better for you so you can stay calm and be patient and the peoples working on the game have less pressure and can make the game awesome without people annoying them...
And for anyone saying PTCGO isn't doing anything for us. Well one year ago redshark was the best way to test and if you would know how much more comfortable PTCGO will be you wouldn't say something like this and just be thankful to the people doing this as much as I am.
At this point I will say it again: Thanks so much to all the PTCGO people for giving us this!
Greetz JuStu

P.S. Oh and as I am in this role right now: brush your teeth, eat your vegetables and do your homeworks!
(Man that's pretty awesome XD)

You said absolutely nothing new in this post. Please refer to the older posts in this thread for the rebuttals. Like potitoed said, just because you get "free" chips with your sandwhich doesn't mean they're free.

Perhaps 'owing us' was a poor choice of words. Do I think it's the right thing to do though? Definitely. I'd like to see some steps taken to make amends for the last year.

Also in response to JuStuPro: Some of us can't play irl. My only ability to play comes from online games. Don't assume everyone is in the same situation you are.

Yeah I know I didn't say something new, but all the people complaining didn't either. There are people with already like ten posts in this thread only saying that they are dissapointed.
Addiotionally I don't think you read my post in depth or you wouldn't just have picked out the most unimportant part to "proof" I am wrong.
I never said this is free, but it also shouldn't be the main game. It is the extra you get. And to be honest prices didn't increase at many places at all... .
And please before posting again, imagine you would be one of the developers, you have worked the last two days a lot of time on this and still had no success in publishing it and then you read how other people say you would fool and dissapoint them...
If you then still would like to answer my post with another "this was said already" while doing the same 10+ poeple already did, then just do it, but I can't guarantee I can take you for serious afterwards ^^

Edit:
I never said there wouldn't be people like this, and I never said I can play much in real life. PTCGO is the only place I can test against other Masters or at least players better then my little brother. However, I still manage to be patient.
But players only playing online are a minority and though I feel sorry for them I would say that you pay a lot more in other online TCG. And if you enjoy something, paying for it is never wasting money...

I was really hoping TCGO would be out before I leave for college in about 30 hours. However, the developers are working very hard and I'm sure they are doing what is best for TCGO and the community

I bet a lot of the people complaining here have never been in a retail situation where they're the employee and their policy prevents them from doing something a customer wants.

Self example. No matter how hard you beg me, i'm not gonna sell you outdated cheese. Even if it's 10 minutes. Even if it's the last one in stock. Even if your daddy owns a bank. I don't care. Policy is policy, and it's there for a reason.

This is much the same thing. TCGO is obviously operating under a policy of "It needs to work and do this list of things* before we put it live."

*(We will probably never see that list, but i'd bet you money it exists)

So all you see here is the manager trying to calm down the irate customer who is unaware of the policy and feels angry at it.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Yeah I was hoping it would be out before I went on vacation but I knew this would happen. It will prob come out in 48 hours time the second I am leaving............oh well as there's no trading I suppose it doesn't matter.

andd @ cabd I think cheese is a bad example as people still eat cheese as it "matures" past its normal date and mould comes. I think something like Ham would be better example.

I'm not too thrilled about PvP being offline still but since I'm on vacation its not a big deal. I think being updated on here is better then nothing tbh, that's the bare minimum I'd expect, even if it is on a 3rd party site.

@JuStuPro,have you considered the possiblity that some players don't play in real life because they don't have OP/acces to cards. If you look at the register site for PTCGO there are about 20+ countries there with no OP and some with no acces to actual cards and i know a few people who play it online because of it and i think there are a bunch of other players like that.it would be good to see some stats on this if there are any.
