Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Post Pokemon Collector Strategy

I'm not really into hyping cards before they are released, but that new Zoroark with Ascension Zorua and all the Dark support is going to be a decent deck.

It's difficult to compare to the one we have now . . . Zoroark BW is a utility counter, while Zoroark DEX is a main attacker. They both have very different functions.

Who ever said collector was going to be rotated has pokemon made an officia.announcement no so why worry maybe they will keep it for another then rotate 1 extra set

Nobody mentioned Stantler yet? Oh deer...

I see what you did there. The thing is, if Collector is rotated then Stantler will be as well.

And with the Emolga vs. Elgyem thing, it really depends on the player and the deck. Decks with Skyarrow Bridge could choose either one. It's kinda like the argument between which Tynamo to use in Eel decks. It depends on what the player prefers. Both have its advantages and disadvantages. But personally, I would go with Emolga for the free retreat, being able to attack for one energy, if you use lightning energy, and, I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, more HP.

Ok so were still thinking that there's going to be a rotation. Let me tell u why this isnt going to happen. The rotated last year. In the history( as long as I've been playing) there has never been two rotations in two consecutive years. So I think people should stop worrying about something that won't happen. There I'm done. Go back to your pointless post.

Then you obviously haven't been playing very long. Neither have I, but I did my homework. The "skipping a rotation" deal has only been a recent thing. Set rotations every year has happened before that. This BLW mess complicated things, but it's very possible we're back on track.

So make no assumptions. It could stay HGSS-on, it could go to something crazy like EP-on. We just don't know for sure.

I want to see something like holon mentor, or some kind of rule on a collector-ish card that you can only search for basics that evolve, have a hp cap of 90 hp, or a 1 retreat cost--or something like that.

You do realize the only thing that Mentor really blocked was Rayquaza (d) ex, and the legendary bird exs right.

That would mean you have played 3 years max, as they have only ever skipped rotation once

But if they brought it back in exactly as is, it would block a whole heap more

you tell 'em mr turtle.

we love you mr turtle!

You say that collector is good for basic decks and makes them broken, and dual ball is too,

then say that having an attack that does the same as collector will be better for evolutions...

Sorry but you kinda lost me on this one.
Basically I'm just assuming that if there is a rotation to BW-on, every single deck will have to use a starter Pokemon like Emongola. If each deck is using a starter, they can't aggressively Knock Out a bunch of basics before they evolve. Usually decks with a starter wouldn't start attacking until T2-3, which gives Stage 2 decks a setup window and puts them on almost even ground with other decks.

The only deck that could get away without it is Corners, but that doesn't have the energy acceleration to do significant damage T1 anyway. The deck would also get significantly weaker without Shaymin.

In the current format, "setup aggressive" decks like ZelEel and the soon-to-come Zoroark can use Collector to fill their bench T1 and still start attacking T1-T2 while decks with Magnezone will start to set up with Collector but won't get rolling until T3-4. In a format that has Mewtwo-EX but doesn't have Collector, it's way too risky to try to use Level Ball/Ultra Ball to fill your bench with 40HP Tynamos, especially when you have Emongola as an alternative/addition.

I would like to present the idea of a COL on rotation, as this is what the professor cup format will be. Granted it wasn't the best indicator for rotation when we went to MD on, it's still a good starting point. So, assuming COL on then hands down Dual ball. That's really all I have to say.

Man if we don't get any supporters to search out Pokemon Goth and Zebstrika are both sounding really brutal for next format. I hope we at least keep CoL for PETM.

You would rather have Elm's than PONT? And even without searching supporters, Goth will still be a terrible choice and for Zebstrika, maybe.

Well even if we lose PONT we still have other draw supporters. It'd be crazy limited though to Juniper, Cheren, and N... and Bianca I guess.

I'm not sure Goth would be too bad in the next format. I'm assuming you mean Goth would still fold to Mewtwo, but Mewtwo does lose a bit of support without Celebi. In Gardy/Goth, I think Mewtwo could get great support from Gardy (it can OHKO other Mewtwos for only two psychic via Gardy with Psydrive and leave itself with 2 energy on it, out of the single DCE + X-Ball range), and even getting one KO in against Mewtwo with Goth is pretty substantial in the prize trade. But whatever this is just from experience in this format, I can't imagine what it'd be like next.

Either way I definitely don't wanna be sitting in a T2 trainer lock if I go second, that's basically a losing position.

I ment that Goth would still be a bad choice beacuse its a stage 2. I just don't think stage 2's are going to make a magical return anytime soon, as much as I want them to.

I also heard Lostgar and Tyranitar was dominating there format this time last year.

Sure they were.
(Actually IDK if they were, wasn't reading up on Japanese sites back then >.<)
And the format they were 'Dominating on' was different than ours, so that very well may have been true. All I can say is I've been reading Japanese sites/Reports and most of them involve using Callers turn one to fill up your bench. I can even link you but I don't want to get in trouble for it. (Also, this might not be what the pro SD players are doing, but it seems the majority of the players are)

I'm beginning to think we may not even get a rotation this year. Everything's been so... twisted, as of the last year or so. It's hard to predict based on such an unstable setup at the moment. We could go CL-On, BW-On or no rotation but it's beginning to look like a no rotation as time goes forward. I just don't see how a no rotation would occur right after EX's were presented to the table.
