Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Richmond VA Regional Championship - Quinton, VA 4/17/2010

I thought the room temperature was fine. Bring a coat next time, you appear to have a problem with staying warm

It was 70 something degrees out side. Ya, I'm sure going to know ahead of time that I'm going to need a coat for INSIDE the building when it's in the 70's out side. *face palm*

I was more or less talking about being told to sit down for our round, and having to wait for an HOUR in that freezing cold room for door prizes. That kind of just topped off the computer problems. I understand that the computer wasn't your fault, but the door prize thing kind pushed a lot of players past their breaking point.

You can opt out of the door prizes. Just dont accept a raffle ticket or take one and eat it. Go outside while the prizes are awarded and come back in at the end.

In the long run, it was easier to pair and sit all the MAs for the door prizes than to have them all wandering around with trying to do the announcements/reading of the numbers for winners. The judges could run up/down the aisles confirming and delivering the goodies. The MAs were way behind schedule (thx computers) and we as a team wanted to be able to finish the prizes and then say GO on the next rd.

Also, if we had that many people and the A/C wasn't working, canyou imagine the complaints then??? Some of you MAs and even some SRs dont understand the concept of daily bathing and the proper use of deodorant and body spray!

Pika the prize stuff was talked about in the event thread last year AND earlier in this thread. Simply bringing that up again without any sort of suggestion on how to make stuff better is a waste of everyone's time including your own.

And for what it's worth Keith the AC really was a problem, but I'm excited that we have a new event location, and I'm not expecting that particular issue to be back.

I did something like this for my Cities. Rather than announce every single prize, I simply created an Excel printout containing all of the numbers of the winners, and posted it throughout the tournament area. Then, had one person specifically designated to hand out the prizes. This could probably be modified for the 200 people that might show up at a Regional.

@VG: I'm not saying the A/C wasnt a problem. The room had some areas that were very cold. Like you, I hope the new venue wonthave an issue like this. (Or any issues actually!!)

No matter what event I go to, I am always shivering for the first two rounds or so.

Therefore: I always bring a hoodie or jacket so I can compensate for too cold temperatures. Plus, this extra layer can just be removed if it gets too hot. I'd recommend this method for most every player.

I do admit that Pika is griping SUPER unnecessarily, but the raffle thing was RIDICULOUS.

Calling out every single Pokeball and stuff like that should have been all at once. Normally that would have been fine doing the raffle that long, but when we started that late and it was already 8 PM or so before the last round, an hour for raffles can't be afforded.

My suggestion is to simply print out an extra copy of the roster R1, and cut all of the slips with people's names. That way you're running on a NAME basis rather than people having to scramble around, looking for a number, etc.

I like the name suggestion. Actually, that way you could simply give people their prizes when they finish their matches. Maybe don't do this for the juniors, who like the excitement of waiting, but I think most masters would quite like this.

this seems like a pro idea but you gotta check IDs or something cause 5 people might claim to be the person that won the box

I mean, I handed out raffle tickets, and simply used the Excel RNG to pick out the winners. Printed out a buncha winner sheets, and posted them throughout the tourney area. Then, simply let the players come up at their own leisure to my raffle lady, who had her own list, to claim their prizes. No ticket, no prize, that simple.

But if you do that, players will SWARM the sheets. It dosen't matter how many; if the Juniors are all in one area, they will swarm that area with the sheet.

It sounds good otherwise.

You'd post the sheets DURING rounds. Nobody would even realize they've gone up and would check them inadvertently between matches.

This could certainly work.

Thanks for the drop Ryan.

Please note that these suggestions about methods of door prize distribution are not meant to come off as sounding ungreatful.

70-something outside that day? It's a good thing we had air conditioning :thumb:.

I'd rather you put on a jacket because you think it is cold instead of you sweating through your shirt as I crush you with coin flips

DP: If you didn't like the way it was handled, you don't have to show up. That would make many people happy!

j/k

Seriously, there is always going to be something that could've been done better with large tournaments like this. The fact is we get over it and move on to try and make things better for next year. Everything you brought up has been brought up earlier and we just have to reiterate for you.

/vent.

I am really looking forward to this again!

Regionals is the real show!
Excited to see people from NC and Georgia and such.
Stoked to see Keith, by far one of my favorite judges for an event.
Stoked to see the competition.
Stoked for the super raffle.
Stoked for the big, secret Regionals decks that are always there because people have gotten used to the cards.
Stoked to snag another Trophy for my room.

I LOVE REGIONALS!
