Awesome. That is sixteen people! Are you guys excited, I am.

I'll put together the first round for you - it may be up as soon as tonight, but I will make sure to get it done by Friday night!

I don't think I'd be comfortable going past 16 players, to be honest. =\ Perhaps in a future contest, we'll see. Sorry!

@kyle-
I do not want to sig up- ( for this one )- BUT.....
If ya want a "second opinion" judge to assist- may I do that or is this not an option?
Or I could just assist you ( if needed ) anyways
either way- what ya think?

Given the subjective nature of metagame judgments I bet some people might want a second opinion on their scores sometimes. Maybe in that case I can forward them to you.

lol at the 4-5 people who wanted to sign up but were late. Good-natured lol. That means I might have to hold another one after this one... soon! ;P

Or perhaps it could be ALL graphical fake cards. I don't wanna spend three hours on a graphical card and be beaten by someone who spent 5 minutes thinking theirs up. Admit it, you'd love to actually SEE the card we made up.

P.S. Do we have deadline for when our cards have to be finished, and will you tell us when to start (I understand you have certain "themes" picked out)?

By that logic I should demand that there be no graphical cards allowed.

Going by the emoticon that was probably a joke statement, but since I've known people who think that way...

Why should I lose because a talented artist made a junk card in 15 minutes but made it "pretty" while I spend three hours or more perfectly balancing the effect, stats, etc. and making sure it is all well written?

How many Pokemon Artists are also members of the R&D team that makes the cards? Art is important to a card, but it literally is a separate department from the rest of the card. I am not actually asking that art not be allowed. I am fine with some people who can draw having a potential advantage, just like I don't expect these to be "timed tests". Some people will have different advantages. Better art skills. Better art programs to work with. More time to work on their entries. It is a contest for fun so I really don't expect Kayle to get bogged down with those details. Some people will go the whole nine yards, play testing their cards. It all shows in the end.

tl;dr: There are a lot of potential advantages/disadvantages contestants will face. I don't think Kayle needs to disqualify some of us based on what we simply cannot do, though as the contest creator that is Kayle's right. People who put the effort into their work will show, and it is your choice where your effort goes.

If someone is some kind of Pokemon TCG savant and can crank out a good card in 5 minutes, why should they be penalized for raw talent?

But as hard as you try to make a card playable, that's only one aspect of a card. I think making graphical cards means that you put some effort into the card. Sure, you can whip up a playable card in five minutes flat, but what fun is that? How is someone going to judge between two equally playable cards? My point is, this is a contest. As much as all of you could want to take the easy way, some of us probably think that we should put some extra effort into the card. If the contest can't be all graphical cards (which was just an idea), at least we should do what pokemandan said; and get a few bonus points for our extra work. Anyone agree with me on this?

you'll only get zero points in this section if you make a card that's something like pick up your opponent's deck and throw it on the floor.

This made me ROFL. :D

No, I don't agree with you. I have the graphical talent of a mole, so naturally I'd lose so many points that competing would be pointless.
This is creating a playable card, not creating a beautiful work of art. For that, why not make your own contest that would be "DESIGN a card" rather then "CREATE a card" ?

Geez, no need to be so cold about it. :nonono: I'm trying to have a polite, reasonable conversation here. <_< And of course people who are bad at creating cards don't like my opinion.

Fixed that for you.

I'm sure Kayle can make up his own mind about this, but FWIW I would consider create-a-card and Pokemon drawing to be two different competitions.

You don't necessarily have to draw the pokemon; when I create cards I often take pokemon images and put them into the card.

I suppose so, but it's pretty hard to judge between two cards that are both just as playable. You could look at two different written cards and not be able to make up your mind on which is better, but if you looked at the graphical versions you could probably decide much easier by examining which one was done the best.

IMO, written cards are extremely dull compared to graphical cards. For example, would you want to go to a spelling bee or a quiz show? A quiz show is going to be more flashy, and probably more fun to watch.
