You don't necessarily have to draw the pokemon; when I create cards I often take pokemon images and put them into the card.

Wait . . . you mean you steal other people's images and want credit for it in the competition???

Joking aside, doesn't that make the competition a test of who has the best Photoshop skills?

I suppose so, but it's pretty hard to judge between two cards that are both just as playable. You could look at two different written cards and not be able to make up your mind on which is better, but if you looked at the graphical versions you could probably decide much easier by examining which one was done the best.

IMO, written cards are extremely dull compared to graphical cards. For example, would you want to go to a spelling bee or a quiz show? A quiz show is going to be more flashy, and probably more fun to watch.

Oh yeah, graphical C-A-C's are much nicer, obviously. But is that the point of the competition? I'm sure you guys can have fun and be creative with just text.

I've never made a card and taken credit for it at all, especially not in a competition. If I ever were to do that, I would put the persons name in the illustration box, so that I'm not taking credit for the art.

Heh, I don't even have Photoshop. I use Paint. :J

Well, yeah, but its not much fun writing them, at least in my opinion.

Attention sir: This is your opinion, and not necesarily that of others. Do not try to push it on people. If others(including myself) like the fun of creating unique and original card ideas to share with others more than piecing together an image of a Pokemon card they've created, then they can do that. Not everyone feels the same way you do.

This is creating a playable card, not creating a beautiful work of art.

Scipio is exactly right.

I will not judge anyone by their choice to create a graphical fake or not, nor will I judge anyone on their artistic capability. Two points are available for people who, no matter HOW they do it, make sure it is organized, neat, and readable.

The purpose of this contest is to make balanced, usable, and interesting cards - not to make omigoshGORGEOUS ones.

@DF1994: Though it's nice to look at a finished graphical fake and know that you made it and it's really cool looking, that is not the part of the card creation I like most: my favorite part is to set up interesting play mechanics on a card, to see how it cooperates with other cards currently in the format I'm working in...

In other words - the writing is the fun part for me!

HELLLOOO?? Did you even notice the "in my opinion" part?

perhaps it could be ALL graphical fake cards.

IMO, In my opinion, perhaps...etc.?

I am not pushing ANYTHING on anyone, it was simply an idea.

@Kayle-Okay then, if that's how the contest works. Like I said, it was just an idea.

Througout this entire thread, you have been arguing for getting extra points for making art. That seems to me like pushing opinions. If not, sorry. Either way, grow up, and type like an adult. This isn't PokeBeach, people.

Arguing? Who's arguing?

I'm trying to have a polite, reasonable conversation here.

^THIS.

I'm simply stating my reasons why I like graphical cards better.

Yeah - let's drop it, guys. I don't mind if he wants to do graphical fakes to make things more fun for him, I'm all for people enjoying themselves in this thing. Just be aware, there will be no advantages to people using PCC over hand-writing their cards.

Yep, I'm aware of that. When are we gonna start?

How is someone going to judge between two equally playable cards?

Just wanted to respond to this point, too. Note that the playability of the card - while a major part of the contest - is only a third of your total score! If I have two players make "equally playable" cards (which is pretty much impossible), but one used Garchomp and one used, like, Masquerain, I might favor the Masquerain. There is going to be a lot more to it than that, of course - I am going to get REALLY deep on your creativity! - but there are other deciding factors.

Edit: And, to answer that question: I'm about to start typing up the first round. :)

:( even though i am an extremely sad bear i wish you all luck. I am just gonna watch the competition and draw art for witch ever cards really stick out to me. so you guys better do a crazy cool job. ( maybe the winners of that round idk!)

i guess this is a way i can contribute!
KAYLE ALLOW ME :)

Dude I will do you one up, if I like your art I think I will give all the finalists a paper or maybe even cardstock copy of their finals entry.

FIRST ROUND IS UP, EVERYONE!

lol i dont mean to toot my own horn, but i draw well.

it will be stylized though, gurantee you have never seen pokemon like his lol!

Last question, I promise!

Can we include an explanation of our card, such as why we think something is balanced, or what a certain aspect is designed to do?

Yeah, you were smart. You made me feel bad for giving a WHOLE WEEK to do this. <<

Oh well, watch someone submit at like 11:30 or something Wednesday night.
