Sportsmanship Awards

I think that the people that won the award deserved it, but I didn't like the fact that many other people who deserved it just as much as the winners didn't get it
people who got it just got lucky that they showed their respect while judges were watching

Well actually people did know about it, if they looked at the trophy case. =/. There was a Good Sportsmanship award card there.

In t32, the judge came up to me and said I had great sportsmanship shown to the Japanese player, too bad I didn't get an award, props to those who did.

The Sportsmanship Award was never announced. They were handed out on a whim, without players knowing it until winners were presented with prizes. You're making it sound like players had previous knowledge about the potential award and were just sucking up to the staff... which did not happen. =/

If I'm not mistaken, BDS DID aanounce about the sportsmanship awards. He did not list any criteria for winning it, but the players knew about it & were told at some point, I forget whether it was then or when the first one was handed out that it was a box.

Yes, it was announced.
On the other hand, in the 10-, I didn't see anyone "acting" for it.
Truth be told, I saw more outstanding sportsmanship in the grinder the night before.
Don't take that to mean that people were acting unsportsmanlike. That's not what I meant. I'm just saying I didn't see anything outstanding on Saturday, personally, with one exception.

Thank-you to those that remembered that BDS did comment on the award before the main Worlds event started, also it is also correct it was posted on the bottom shelf of the trophy case.

This good sportsmanship is ridiculous! So if you lost every single game you get a better prize than those who work there butts off to actualy win.
Geezzz... Sour grapes, already, Dragon Master???? I suppose YOU didn't get a Sportsmanship Award? Surprise, Surprise!

The Good Sportsmanship Awards were NOT ridiculous.... and they had NOTHING to do with your record. My son won one and he made Top 32.

Please don't bash the award just because you didn't get one.

I think some of the people who won Sportsmanship Awards were less deserving than some other players who went unrecognized by the judges/staff, but remember, the judges don't always see every example of sportsmanship. THey have a whole bunch of games to concentrate on. Suggestions were dropped off, but I think the judges did tend to sometimes lean towards the losers, or outstanding sportsmanship they actually witnessed firsthand.

There's really nothing wrong with this, but a few people showed GREAT sportsmanship that I heard about from friends. TheAnswer3, with fifteen seconds on the clock and ahead by a prize, had the resources in his hand to stall, but he instead attacked Swanton1717's Wailord ex with his Suicune ex, and did not KO it. Colin was able to knock out his Suicune ex taking two more prizes and putting him ahead just before time ran out. tA3 had full view of the clock and it was incredible sportsmanship.

No boxes for a year for tA, though. I think the Sportsmanship Awards are a little bit controversial because the judges can't witness every game all at once and check out all the player's Sportsmanship. I wouldn't give out Sportmanship Awards because there would be complaining, arguing, and "I did this and didn't get a box"ing. There isn't a "fair" way to judge Sportsmanship, it's an undefinable.

Anyway, it's already happened, and I can't rip the fabric of time, so I'll just rant to myself while you consider my wise words. Or maybe just hit the back button on your browser. ;x

I think it's kind of annoying that these sportmanship award winners won more boxes than me, and I came 4th ;x. But I guess i shouldnt complain, as ai won $3500. Sportsmanship awards were given out to players who got screwed by the judge or players who finished liek last ;x

I hate it when people do this

you are in the wrong if you just make assumptions like this

what if I said I think the only reason you like it is because your son got one
that isn't right at all

To all who got them CONGRATULATIONS

TO all who didn't: please remember noone is saying that you were bad sports.

I suppose YOU will be the main body opening and going through the packs your son gets for the next year .... and of course they had ALOT to do with your record. ( Not everyone came in last) Duh! :p

Please don't defend the award just because your son received one.

Only a few people got this award... Why complain because it wasn't you?
Be happy for the people who did get them. I mean really, going into Worlds, were you expecting to win an award you had no idea about? No. So don't be so bitter.

Anyway, congrats to the lucky few who got these wonderful prizes!

I am not defending the award because my son received one. I thought the awards were a great idea -- the moment I found out about them. Wayyyy before my son got one. In fact, I honestly didn't expect him to get one. With only 4 being awarded per age group, who would realistically expect to get one?

And, they had NOTHING to do with your record.... But if you think they did, what criteria do you think they were based on? Did you get the award if you didn't make the top 32? Or did you get the award if you DID get into the top 32? or maybe the the top 16? I'm trying to decipher exactly what you are saying... What was the criteria used in awarding the Sportsmanship Award (in your opinion)?

If I remember correctly, they WERE NOT handed out at the end of the swiss rounds. They announced them at different times, in between games... and they started at around round 2 or so.... I'm not exactly sure when they started handing them out, but I know they weren't awarded all at the same time.

Like I mentioned, I really wasn't expecting him to win the Sportsmanship Award, although I felt like he did deserve it. Of course, tons of other players displayed good sportsmanship, too. That's expected. But the fact that others did not win the award, does not take away or negate the sportsmanship that everyone displayed at Worlds. By the same token, the fact that not everyone received one, should not negate or take away from those who did receive the awards.

To say that the Sportmanship Awards are ridiculous is uncalled for, and not something you would expect from someone who truly deserves the Sportmanship Award. So, for the people who think that the Sportsmanship Awards is a big joke, it's no surprise that you didn't get one.

I think all the people who got Sportsmanship Awards truly deserved them.

And I also believe that there were a LOT of people who deserved Sportmanship Awards who did not receive them. Everybody couldn't get one so, to some degree, it became a little bit random.

That isn't to diminish those who received them - sometimes you're just in the right place doing the right thing and the right person sees you.

But I have to agree with Team Cook. If you're going to complain about not getting a Sportsmanship Award (and especially if you're going to complain to the DEGREE that some have been), the CLEARLY you weren't a candidate.

Thanks for the support woop, i defintley dont think it matters. Although some people have been saying people didnt act for the sportsmanship award and well, thats COMPLETE crap i would have to say. A good friend of mine in 15+ got one after he had a not so great day, lets just say he didnt win many games that day, but played it out all day and got a sportsmanship award, which was planned. Im not complaining I didnt get one but i think there were some other options out there than the people that were chosen(all tho i mean no offense to any of you as everyone must have showed great sportsmanship to earn those awards)

Congrats to everyone that got one!
tA

Answer - Is M.Pr the friend your mentioned?
If so please give him my best wished and I hope to play again on the same tablenumber (as long it's 66) with him.
He probably starts laughing and remember his most funny game of the day.

I congratulate those that received this award, and to those that received the award I am not against you. The messages I have made are directed at Nintendo so maybe next year they can improve how they do things. For goodness sakes, how am I bitter. Being bitter would have meant me trying as a player being something i'm not and failing to get some award that I had actually forgotten about till I came back home and saw this forum.
