I'm calling it this way...
NFC East: None of the teams really stand out. All have flaws in some manner. The Giants don't have any wideouts, but their running game is BEASTLY. The Romos have Tony Romo as their QB. The 'Skins have Snyder as their owner. Philly also has no wideouts, but a beastly run/short pass game. I'm gonna go with the Giants, as they're the least flawed team in the division.
NFC South: Carolina has long been a popular pick coming out, and they've always underperformed. Atlanta isn't going to sneak up on anybody this year like they did last year. New Orleanes doesn't have a defense. Tampa just has nothing. I'm probably going with the Saints to win the division just because of their insane offense. If they can "hold" teams to under 30 points, they'll win, simple as that.
NFC West: There's only one real team in this division. No doubt in my mind that the Cards win this division 9-7. The 49ers will be MUCH improved with Singletary as their coach (HOMER pick there).
NFC North: Three team race, and all 3 teams have some major flaw. The Vikings have Brett Favre as their QB. He's over the hill, well past his prime, and coming off an injury. And the Vikings absolutely LOVE the guy. They'll be passing FAR more than they should with AP on the roster, and that'll be their downfall. Not to mention the Williams defensive linemen will get their 4 game suspension at some point this year. When that happens, the Vikings will drop 4 straight. The Packers have a new defense, and their defense last year wasn't particularly great. Rodgers will be amazing, and they will score a crapton load of points. But so will their opponents. The Bears finally have an NFL-style offense to go with their top-tier NFL defense. Their secondary is a mess after Tillman's surgery and Bowman's injury, and they weren't exactly stellar against the pass last year. They do not have a true #1 wideout, but their TEs are second to none in the passing game, and they have a top-tier RB. I'm going to pick the Bears to win this division 11-5 on the divisional tiebreaker.
Wildcard: The Vikings will go 11-5, and that will be enough for a playoff spot. The East teams will beat on each other, guaranteeing at least 3 losses each. They also play the AFC West and the NFC South. I think that each team will get at least two losses from the NFC South or San Diego, and then some random loss tossed in between. Atlanta, while not flying under the radar anymore, is still pretty powerful with a solid 2nd year QB with the talent to become top 5, a top tier wideout, and a top tier RB. Their defense isn't terrible, and can be downright good in the right circumstances. Atlanta will be the second NFC wildcard.
AFC West: San Diego is clearly the class of this division. Denver dumped their QB, has a disgruntled WR, no true RB, and a terribad defense. Kansas City has never had a defense, traded their top offensive weapon, and fired their offensive coordinator. Oakland has Al Davis as their owner. San Diego rolls with at least 10 wins.
AFC North: Two team race here. Baltimore has the better defense by a touch, and Pitt has the better offense by a touch. Cleveland is Cleveland, and Cincy doesn't have a defense. Pitt has that storied franchise, and that carries weight with the refs. Both will make the playoffs, but Pitt should win the division.
AFC South: Even with the coaching change, Indy has always been very, very good. They'll get double digit wins once again. Tennessee lost the single greatest defensive lineman in the NFL today, and their offense is anemic. They remind me of the Bears last year in that respect. Houston has an amazing offense, but no real defense. Jacksonville will be interesting to watch, but won't win many games. Indy takes this division.
AFC East: Miami and Buffalo will be stories this year, as both will improve. The Jets will regress because they had no Favre backup plan. New England is always good, even when they're bad. They'll take this division fairly easily.
Wildcard: I said earlier that both Baltimore and Pitt will make the playoffs. Since the division is pretty much a tossup between the two teams, the one that doesn't win the division will win the wildcard spot. I think that Tennessee is just good enough to notch another playoff berth, but don't underestimate Houston in this spot either.
I'll worry about the playoffs later, but my SB prediction is Ravens over Bears.
