Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Swapping cards at prereleases.

It is a limited, sanctioned POP tourney. You use 40 card decks. That would be the issue that I would have as a player and Judge, plus the somewhat lack of information prior to opening packs. Everything should have been fully explained beforehand about the swap of packs after marking the sheets.

As to anyone claiming you would run out or drop from the tourney w/o passing the cards :nonono:
If the whole room is passing cards, it is still a random event and you get what is in 6 packs.

I am sure PUI will read this thread later this morning and make the appropriate comments.

Pack swap....maybe OK, but not standard for Pokemon events.

More than 40 card decks...someone simply does NOT know the rules.

Vince

Keith, I disagree. I don't care if they are still random. This takes AWAY from the preRelease experience.

What happened to the thrill of opening a great card in a pack? Here, take this stack...it has a good card...yipee!! Not SOTG.

As for dropping without passing.... I would love to hear PUI's comments if it happened.

Yeah the main judge said you could have as many cards as you want in your deck. We were saying that would make it unfair and the judge said it was ok. He said, "What advantage do you have with more cards? You have less chance of getting your good card. Its a risk you have to take."

LOL who was that?

He was the Pastimes employee. He was young, like around 18ish I would guess who judges some other game and got stuck on pokemon. Thats what it seemed like.

Vince: I agree that pack swapping after opening is not the best way to do it. I LOVE to see/hear the yelps of "I pulled _______!" My only reply was, if it was announced up front, then everyone should know 100% what is happening. (Of course, we know that a certain percentage of our players dont listen to us at the opening anyway....they know it all already! LOL)

Since the prize structure has been changed to not have the box go to the winner, IMHO, there is absolutely no reason to pack swap. IF one feels like they need to cheat to win a PR and get the same prizes everyone else gets...so sad!

OMG are you SERIOUS??? You mean they never announced ahead of time that they were going to do this? People excitedly opened up the 6 packs that they were given, full of joy over the brand new cards that they pulled and then they had to give them all away to the kid 2 spots down?? And then play with more than 40 cards in your deck???

I cannot see how that could POSSIBLY be something that PUI could condone.

Poor kids who had to lose their exciting pulls. I certainly hope this wasn't their first Pokemon experience, because I would venture to say it would likely be their last.

I don't think he ever got over it...
He still got to play though, without swapping.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

ANd he said all the matches were 2/3 with 45 minute limit. And he let a kids dad help him.

Agree thats just wrong :nonono:

Well me and nate and two other new players were at a table on the end not connected to the inside area. Our table had all our decks built and we were just about to go and get energy when they said swap. The two new kids built 60 card decks and I told them to make it 40 so no one would think suspicious of them since both parents were watching and the parents wouldn't wanna bring the kids back to niles after someone were to accuse them of cheating. One of the new kids opened a kingdra ex and then ended up with a tyranitar ex. So that was a win-win for him and he was happy at the end. The other one was happy with the kingdra he got so I think theres atleast 2 new 11-14 players!

*typing with no lights on so please excuse the bad grammar.

Sounds like yu-gi-oh think to me

Wow. I understand when there would be a big prize at stake, but for this?

Geez.

If I pulled Charizard*, and then they said pass(without telling ahead of time), I would've said this: I payed my 20 bucks, got my 6 packs, and am now dropping. I'm not giving up this card that I can sell on ebay for 70+ dollars when nobody told me or anybody else this was going to happen. Bye.

XD

But seriously, I wouldn't give it up. They don't announce ahead of time, then you have the right to complain about it ;)

U DA MAN

I would have done the exact same thing.

AND THATS UNFAIR!!! If the guy to the side of the got a bunch of crap and I got a bunch of goodies, I'd be mad. Good purpose, but for those who don't cheat, it's not that cool.

Yep. Now, if I was told that hey, you are going to pass the stuff you get, then I would open the packs, set it in a stack, and pass. Not even bother to find out what I pull if I don't get to keep it. =/

QFT

I have absolutely no problem with the pack passing, as long as it's announced before the event. If it's announced during the event, then that's something else entirely. Also, somebody please talk to Pastimes about running sanctioned tournaments within the rules that PUI have set up, and NOT for the DCI or whatever else rules that Alan feels like enforcing on that day...

Unfortunately, Pastimes will likely still keep on having Premier level events, and will likely get both States and Regionals this year, and that's a complete shame, considering that Camille right now does a better job, gets more people, and generally promotes more fun events than Pastimes has EVER had, even back when Pokedoc was still running events for the store...
