Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Virginia's 08-09 City Championship Info

As I am not a mod, I can't speak for staff. However, they really don't belong here. If I were staff, I'd say "no". Let's keep the discussion to CC events. What you'll play/expect to play against/predictions about size of turnout/etc. Pages of spam really does nothing for me personally and turns off those who come to the thread to look for something more relevant. If you really feel that there is an audience for other topics, I'd suggest the RTC. If no ones visits your thread, then folks probably weren't interested in the first place.

Now, can we have a role call for this weekend? Has anyone from NoVA called BC Games yet??

totoro: In your first post, please add that Battle City Games is still using the old store sign. I'll throw in the additional information when I send out another e-mail about the tournaments.

HEY GUYS ...

Whenever I call to preregister for this event, the guy says HE STILL NEEDS A PREREGISTRATION SHEET before he can register ANYONE for the event??

January 11
Fairfax, VA (Hobby Works)
9650 Main St. (Fair City Mall)
Fairfax, VA 22031
(703) 426-8600
Registration opens at 11:30 in the mall area.
Preregister at (703) 426-8600 with your name and POP ID
Please bring a folding chair--we might need it!!

Who do I ask about this?

Rogue: I too stopped by the store to register my daughters and they didn't have it. Shadowcard said he wasn't going to get them the sheet until later in Decemeber... Tim? :)

Shadow Card, if folks are ready to prereg for a Jan event, why not let them?? My only request is that if it turns out that a player can't make the event, they call back in a timely fashion and have their name removed from the list. C'mon make that list--I'm sure that Aaron and Courtney can handle it. Please remember to obtain POP ID numbers from players who have them when they call to preregister. It'll make my life easier once I arrive.

The reason is because they don't do this.

I wasn't planning on giving the prereg list until Dec 27. This was to keep people from immediately signing up, and then finding out later in December that they can't go and not calling back to remove their name from the list. I've become pessimistic in my old age.

I'm very tempted to do away with the prereg list after this event because I haven't seen how it is effective. Not only that, but no matter how it is done, there's always someone who feels like telling me how to do it better -_- . Sometimes those people are right but using the idea sacrifices simplicity which makes it not worth implimenting. I don't know how Frank does it and no one has yet been able to tell me how he does it. I wish it could be done online somehow. Aaron and Courtney can definitely handle it, but the problem is not them (some other employees on the other hand :/ , and other things which I've already mentioned). Maybe someday I'll pass programing fundamentals (IT 108, not CS 112 or whatever it is) and be able to construct a program to do it :/

stuff... more stuff...

then he says...

I thought preregistration was, simply, a heads-up on numbers that moves the line along smoother on event day?

Frank does his on the computer and I'd imagineit's probably a simple Excel book?

So..

I can set up an MS Excel sheet/workbook w/ autocalc
I can set it up to report how many people you'll have in each division (junior, masters, and Seniors)

The store would just have to be willing to type in, first, last name, and age of the people who are preregisting.

If the people at the store are willing to type things into a computer screen, I can create this by noon today.

LMK

--- edit ---

Ok. I've done, both, an Access Database that takes POP ID, Name, and Phone number
I've done an Excel book that takes the same information.

Let me know if you want either of these. They can be emailed to you, then emailed to the store.

Can someone please tell me which tournaments in MD are sanctioned? It'll affect my planing, and I can't tell what is and whats not.

Lusby and Glen Burnie are the two that I KNOW have been sanctioned from the start.

I was among the first to find them on the locator before this thread was even up.

(and .. Garch: I'll let you know when I pull another Charmander SF)

Actually, Rockville is now a proper City Championship, premier and all. 12/7, 11:00am. Miracles never cease. It's got a new thread of its own.

Rogue Archetype, I'd take the excel version, but I then need to find out of HW will do a computer version of the prereg list.

It doesn't serve that purpose very well if players prereg and then don't remove their name after finding out they can't come. When the list is full at 60, but then only 45 from the list show up, there's energy and resources wasted.

The preregistration list, from my point of view, was instituted in order to prevent the event from accepting more players than we could seat. If necessary, we could see that the event was justifiably full and players would be aware of it too. After a certain point (those who ended up on the waitlist) would be aware that they'd have to bring a chair if they want to play while those on the actual list were guarenteed a chair. The list works better for prereleases since players can see a flight is approaching capacity and then plan to be at the other flight, no extra chairs needed. It has also been used by people looking to avoid the "crowded flight" when we do prereleases.

But at non-prereleases, we always accept everyone so there's no point for a prereg list. This is sometimes due to players who are no-shows (ex: Richmond Comix always fills their prereg list and waitlist but then never reach capacity at the event). You can say it makes us prepared for any walk-ins, but at a "preregistration required" event, if you're accepting 15 walk-ins, does that really count as an effective preregistration list? You would have had the same result without the list. And if you don't get 15 walk-ins, that's energy and resources spent unnecessarily.

Then, there is always something wrong with the prereg list. Sometimes players see it and sometimes they don't. I always end up doing a facepalm (in purple text ) when I hear about them. I think my forehead may be flattening due to all the facepalming .

IMO it hasn't made anything run smoother, but I'm not the one who uses the list when it comes time to do the event. What I do know is, after every event, there is always someone (not always totoro) who tells me how to improve the list when the improvement is not really any kind of improvement. They're good ideas but they make the list more complicated.

Heard... and I feel you.

I'm an event organizer for our school events. So, I do feel your pain here.

I've seen David say "OK.. everyone PREREGISTERED in the line first."

That gives the newbees time to get decklists straight and complete/borrow decks.

That's, really, the purpose I thought you guys were doing the lists... just to have a checkbox for those who showed and you're done w/ preregistered peeps.. :)
