What can you get banned for?

Pokemom said "Back on topic" a while ago but I'm not sure what the topic is anymore; its gone from leaking info to Professorship of Lafonte members and on to some improbable suicidal 33000 damage.

I think it'd be interesting to sit down and look at how many Lafonte players DIDN'T win a Gym but instead lost to another Lafonte member. VERY interesting. We're all in general agreement by saying that Lafonte is full of good players, try playing at a FREGGIN GYM Challenge where Lafonte = 5/8 of the Top Cut. SHEESH. Of course, we realized long ago that having ONLY great players would give the board a very bias point of view, which is why we let Seena "I went 0-4 cause my deck loses to Theme Decks" Gaziaskhar join the forum.

As was mentioned earlier, yes the board does see a dip in activity in the strategy forum as the Events become more and more important. As far as the "Secret.deck" that was referred to; its quite irrelevant. Medicham was once upon a time called "Secret.DEC" as was every other deck that most people are playing today. Secret.DEC is just the name that you use for your new deck (".DEC" comes from Apprentice, obviously) I would like to reiterate a point I made a long time ago: Lafonte/Neo/Meanstreet is not some magical website with the power to make you a great player. Likewise, not everyone on Lafonte is a great player, nor should they be.

I have always helped younger kids (and their clueless parents!) build decks. Anyone who has attended league with me will tell you that. Right now my schedule conflicts with league but hopefully (PUI willing) I will be running a league of my own in 2009 and my actions will speak for themselves. All that being said, Lafonte's members are genuinly good people. There are high school kids being high school kids, but what can you do about that, really? College kids being college kids is also a regular occurance on Lafonte but again, its not something I would prefer to live without. Most of us went to college and did things we wouldn't exactly put on our tombstones, but that's just what you do when you're living for the moment and trying to relieve some stress. This stupid internet behavior that is interpreted as 'what Lafonte is about' is an unwelcome and dissapointing side affect of young people having fun.

Really, when you look at the big picture, Lafonte is probably good for the game. Hard on the eyes, maybe, but its true. Without Lafonte you would have a bunch of players (nerds, really) keeping this frustration inside rather than letting off some steam in a harmless fashion. Not to mention it provides a haven for players who would have otherwise given up on Pokemon and moved on to who knows what (YGO or drugs, they're one in the same).

This whole PokeGym/PUI v. Lafonte/l33tist thing is stupid and needs to stop. Both sides are upset about what they feel is the other side stepping over the line or disrespecting them. Regardless, its a hatred that holds no merit off the internet and probably doesn't even deserve the bandwidth it receives already. Besides, we've got better things to do (like figure out what the most damage is in the Modified format). Just so we're all clear the new Medicham ex is not Modified-legal yet.

P.S. The new Medicham ex is a joke, don't ban me for leaking anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought having a good tournament record was a membership requirement.
Only going by what I've heard, so I don't really know.

Agree 100%

All that is required is for the members of the board to vote in a player. It is an entirely democratic system. Typically one's tournament record is provided weighs heavily on the decision, but that is not the only factor.

About the chicken vs. egg debate on whether or not "you're good because you're on Lafonte" or "because you're good, you're on Lafonte," it likely leans towards the latter, especially during trips/nats/worlds time. Much more information is shared around Cities and more "unimportant" tournaments than around the big events. TacC's quote nailed it: not only did LaFonte members take almost HALF the available trips, but the number of other Lafonte members that those trip winners beat on their way is likely another staggering stat; typically we're our own greatest competition. That being said, although lists typically aren't posted directly on the forums, being on Lafonte has very serious merits for a "newer" player. Getting to know the best players in the game can ONLY help you. I've met a lot of players on Lafonte that I can say I'm much more inclined to work with on a deck or assist now that I've had the chance, through Lafonte, to get to know them better. You can read tournament reports from players who may be banned from the gym to get further insight into the metagame and the thinking of a top player. To say that Lafonte doesn't turn a really weak player into a great player is an impossible claim to make: we don't have any truly weak players on the board (although some kinda raise an eyebrow), but if I were to guess, I'd say it would be very difficult without someone really holding your hand. However, to claim that Lafonte doesn't improve the game of everyone on the board is also incorrect.

Lafonte is a great place for a bunch of 15-20somethings to meet, joke around, and talk about Pokemon. We have no agenda aside from each individual's goal of being the best. We're now accepting applications :D

I don't think it's anything amazing that Lafonte had a good number of players do well this season. It's a hangout where a bunch of good players chat with each other. Through word of mouth, more show interest in it, and before you know it, a group of good players are collected inside the group. Lafonte is just a fad though. Last year, it was Neo, this year it is Lafonte, and before we know it, someone will leak information, people's egos will battle each other, and people will go to another board.

As long as people flock together to message boards, those message boards and groups will gloat over their performances.

we're doing our best to keep the lafonte site free from problems. ness has realized those problems that you mentioned, prime, and our democratic system has proven pretty adequete.

Hey, I have an idea, how about this:
No one gves a crud about Lafonte. Just like no one gave a crud about Neo, or the "elite 4" or anything else like that.

NO - ONE - CARES.
We're only discussing it because the people who are in it use it as a way to draw attention to themselves.

And here you are biting the hook and feeding their attention by giving yet MORE time to respond to them. You say who cares? The answer is YOU care. You care enough to make two posts, and multiple paragraphs just talking about La Fonte. Obviously you care enough to already formulate an opinion on them and state it, where if you truly had apathy, you wouldn't have posted at all.

Or maybe when you discuss and post about a topic TWICE, you truly don't care about it at all.

You made Hernandez cry :(

For one I approve of Lafonte/Neo whatever now. The trash was cleaned up and I appreciate that. The only reason I blew up before on the old site was because of a situation not relative.

My defining moment on this message board was when I got banned for comparing Dragonstar to Robespierre. Such good times

Lafonte is just a name, not a fad. Neo and Lafonte are virtually the same thing. It's just that Neo/Meanstreet/Noscrubs/Lafonte/whatever are/were all run by different people.

To stay on topic, the idea of a Lafonte shirt is being discussed on the site. Is it a bannable offense to wear the shirt if it has ONLY the headphones or face of a certain questionable character, "Hernandez"?
