What Decks are smart to play at Regionals? What decks will see the most play?

I have done some testing with Gengar and I have found that while it seems good, it just folds to SP Decks. People think that it can "beat" them, but Dialga deafen locking plus poison just does them in. The same is said with Machamp. If you play smart with an SP deck and deafen lock + poison they have the same problem. Most Dialga decks play 1 Unown G and that's enough to stop them from giving you a hard time. Most only play 2 middle stages as there isn't much room for more. I have also found in testing that the same problem happens when Gengar and Machamp are played in the same deck. If you can deafen lock + poison them they are in SERIOUS trouble. I don't see any good player playing Dialga to lose to any variant of Gengar or Machamp. It just seems like while they look like they are good, they are not going to get you that "regionals" win that you want and it will see some play.

AMU is okay, granted it beats SP decks, if you can actually play them. It has SERIOUS issues versus Gengar and can have issues against a lot of others including SP decks. If they can get that Deafen Lock + Poison it can hinder you and against a good player the AMU will be in trouble. Granted AMU if it gets setup can win, but if they get deafen locked on T1 they are done. The other issue is the deck can be a little flippy.

Gigas is about a 40/60 match up against SP decks. I expec t that the biggest issue is the amount of Champ that are going to see play.

If I had to guess on the top five decks of Regionals, I would have to go the following -

1 - Dialga G + Techs
2 - Machamp
3 - Palkia/Dialga
4 - Gigas
5 - Rogue/SD

I really don't see Gengar or Gigas doing well and there is too much fighting for Tyranitar to succeed. AMU is going have issues with consistency and the fact that Gengar if it seems play destroys it. I mean while AMU is good I am not sure it is the best choice as there are way too many trainers in it and they will have serious issues drawing dead against a Deafen Lock. It is a good deck but I just don't see it well.

I have some other thoughts but for now I am going to leave it at that.

After some serious testing, I have to change my list.

1 - Dialga G + Techs
2 - Gengar
3 - Rogue/SD
4 - Machamp
5 - Palkia/Dialga

I just see Gengar being HUGE for Regionals, I don't know why, but all I have heard is Gengar this, Gengar that. When a deck is that hyped it is usually a good sign that it will be played. Machamp loses to it and the fact is I don't see any Machamp this/that. I think that is because most G decks BEAT Machamp even though people don't think it that is true.

I think Gengar is a better play for Regionals than Dialga. Gengar has no 30-70 bad match-up. If it has a bad match-up it is 60-40 to 51-49.

^^^ Agreed. But Dialga can murder Gengar by spamming Crobats/poketurns if the Dialga player knows what they're doing. but the dialga murdering gengar is like a 10% chance. i think that if both decks are top o' the line, The Gengar/Dialga Matchup is 60/40 in Dialga's favor. But then The Gengar/Champ Matchup is 65/35 in gengars favor, and the Champ/Dialga Matchup is 55/45 in Machamps favor, which makes me think that these 3 decks are the solid top 3 decks.

once AMU sets up all 3 Lv.Xs it completely demolishes Dialga.

You could say that for ANY deck, NO deck can survive 200... lol. If that was your argument for why it beats Dialga, you could also argue that it never loses to anything ever.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Gengar can have a bad matchup against anything, that's the issue. Any deck can play around it if they tech for it (UNOWN G!!).

Well AMU loses to Gengar. It has serious issues versus it.

Gengar, can get around Unown G's. However most decks I have seen haven't been able to fit more than 1 of them in because of spacing issues.
