Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What Decks are smart to play at Regionals? What decks will see the most play?

It is a donky format. last format was 2. Dylan B. in seniors got his holons castform donked last year at citys by a beginner with a chimchar, rare candy, infernape and double rainbow energy. it goes to show you that a good player can get unlucky and lose to the brokenness of the format itself. The golden rule in the format is KO T1-T2 or be KO'd T1-T2. but there is a deck that surpases this rule; DialgaG/PalkiaG. mesprit lock and deafen lock can stall the game until your ready to start cleaning up the field. This is why Machamp has become popular again. But this alone couldn't bring Machamp back up to Tier1, let alone #2deck. Machamp also has to be able to be alot of other expected decks. which it either can or has an even matchup against a good bit of decks.

Top 5 deck choices..

1) Machamp
2) Dialga G
3) Torterra
4) Gengar
5) Other g stuff that isn't good but will be played.

It's a donky format, Jeff. After looking at the results across several states, and the players who traditionally win them, the only conclusion I've come to is that the best you can hope for is to simply get a few rounds into top cut and see what happens in finals if you don't get a bad start.

D/P is still, far and beyond, the most solid choice anyone can make for regionals, at least among decks we've seen. Just because Ross got a couple bad starts doesn't demean the fact that he already beat that same player during swiss and completely outplayed him in one game of T4. Same thing last week for Tyler and Michael. It's just that skill is much less of a factor this format because of the high number of decks that attack early either on massive uxie draws or coinflips.

Maybe,, but still usually when I play Michael or Tyler or Ross, I fear the deck that they are playing. Dialga G/ Palkiaa G does not scare me at all. Tyler had it completely fall apart on him, and yes I did loose to Michael with it. But only beacause it was his turn when time was called. I had the return KO ready but did not get the opportunity. Usually I just get swarmed by Micheals decks but for a Basic deck it just seems so cluncky. Usually I see thoes players are playing much stronger decks then that. Yes Ross did well with it. But that is not an accurate measure of the deck. You know very well that you could hand him any D&P Theme deck and I guarentee he will manage to win games with it. The deck is good but its not great and after the next prerelease it will be gone.

my saying is red face paint always first because you can't prepare for a red face paint
1) Rogue
2) Machamp
3) Diagia G
4) Gengar
5) Plakia

Rouges usually fail at tournaments.

Rogues on the other hand, aren't as bad.

I do think dialga/palkia is probably the best play going into Regionals though.

its nice to read through here and see people giving Gigas some credit. I placed 2nd in nh states with it going 5-1 with it in swiss and to Ttar in top2.my only loss in swiss was to a toolbox.. he t2'd a dialga g with gtool ,stadium , tank , toxicroak,sp metal and a cyrus on top of that... lone gigas and no trainers.. next turn dialgagLVX... :[ i still think its a good choice for reginols if played right. as for champ i just hope they dont make it to top cut.

I really don't know why you think the deck's clunky. :/

My Palkia/Dialga deck gets the t2 Palkia about 90% of the time. Very often its a full blown t2 Pearl Breath, and I almost ALWAYS get the lv.x out by t3. It's the BDIF, and you really can't argue that. If it wasn't for the fact that stupid Machamp exists, then it would win a lot more. Palkia clunky... lol.

Last format was the most skilled format we have ever had. GG Mirrors were epic mainly decided by who made the fewest mistakes.

Jay, I would have to disagree. I think that 2006 was. There were SOOOOO many choices for decks that meant they you had to be prepared for everything. I am still unsure what is going to be the best choice, but I do know that anyone thinking about running straight Champ or straight Gengar is going to need to have some type of supporting/secondary attacker if they expect to do well.

I think Dialga G w/techs and NO palkia is the BDIF. Palkia doesn't do it that much good. its much better IMO to play Toolbox with 1 less Weavile Honchkrow Skunktank and Toxi G and a 3-1 Dialga G lvX line and 2-4 Mesprit, otherwise known as Dialga G w/ Techs. Palkia Is OK for Juniors, Maybe OK for Seniors, but im not sure its any better than OK.

This also comes from the guy that just said after the 1st states that Gigas was the play and went 2-2 with it at DE states. And you don't know anything about what ur talking about. You don't play Mespirits in Dialga. The only reason mespirits are ever used are because you can trash themoff your bench with palkia.

There is no BDIF. In this format it is not what you play it is how good you are as a player. Everything has at least one bad match-up. For instance some will argue that Dialga beats machamp with the croak tech but it is not true in the least, if anything it makes the match-up 50-50. AMU also destroys Dialga, badly.

Machamp gets beaten by really anything that isn't g pokemon or AMU IMO. Gengar Machamp is a little more interesting though. Kingdra also has potential. Obama is being underated too I think. You gotta be playin it right though.

So the question is What Decks are smart to play at Regionals, I'll say Gechamp (Not just Straight Machmp), Dialga, Obama, Kingdra, are all smart plays for regionals. However what decks are going to see play all depends on the meta

Since when does AMU destroy Dialga, and BADLY? Deafen lock is devastating, preventing trainers (ie night maintenance/pokemon rescue/premier ball) after knocking out one of the X's. Without Supreme Blast you're stuck with doing 40 with zen blade or 50 with Extrasensory, not including special metals. Then there is also Power Sprays for Uxie setups, and Azelf Time Walk (one x is prized).

Ok I finally have seen a GOOD Palkia G/ Dialga G deck

Ok while I still am not convinced that it is the best deck in the format. I fiannaly have seen a Palkia G, Dialga G deck that I found to be verry effective. Funny thing is this one wins with Palkia as the main Attacker. With the right list Plakia can be verry tough. All this time I though Dialga was hands down the best of the two. But now I am not so sure. Good Luck to everyone no matter what deck you decide to play.

Has anyone considered TTar? Once it gets set up its hard to take down and even if it gets Trainer locked it can still evolve manually. And it's not like TTar would be able to do much if you Candy'd it on your first turn anyway so its not losing too much speed. With all of the Poke-Powers that most decks have to use now-a-days a good TTar list could go far into States. If you think about it there's the Pixies, Skuntank, Claydol, and multiple Crobats per game. Right there is at least 5-6 energies that you can gain with Darkness Drive.

And yes, I'm aware that Dialga G Lv.X turns Darkness Drive off. There are plenty of other ways TTar can charge up.

R u kidding me, trainer lock is bad but once AMU sets up all 3 Lv.Xs it completely demolishes Dialga. where r your special metals and psychic resistance going to go when AMU shoves 200 damage right up ur A. Maybe I was exaggerating when I said badly but it isn't easy for dialga once they get set up.

The entire argument being that they won't.
