What do you expect the Pokémon TCG to give you?

Are you part of the music industriy, I've seen this argument before

Just because people won the boxes doesnt mean they would have bought them otherwise...

DON'T start me on Limewire, people don't deserve free music.

Anyways, I'm inclined to complain this time. If they keep decreasing the prizes over and over because they're growing, OP should CERTAINLY be nagging Nintendo to give them a raise...

Ok first of all I play for fun and I HATE whiny masters
(search past posts of mine, I've argued with them and also have posted how the game is for children and the children should get the most not us) but I don't get why everyone is jumping on the people who complain about the decrease of prizes. I play for FUN and its true, prizes have gone way down. Really, it sucks. Remember when prereleases cost 15$? Wow! Those were the days! Remember the days people would play for a BOX @ citys? WOW those were the days! I'm sure attendance would go up alot if BR prize was ONE box for ONE person. BR's are about the kids/new players but I'm sure even kids would be happier playing for a box instead of, like, 2 packs lol.

The scholarships prizes are impressive, I give credit where its due but they just seem like they're getting cheap with packs that probably don't cost them much.

LOL say 20 people in ea. state went to their BR's and paid their 20$ ((haha yeahright, those also were the good ol days!)) than that = $20,000! Just in BR's!

- strictly fun/casual player who thinks it's a kids game but agrees these guys should are getting cheap with prizes

Ok... I think that when even the "play for fun" people start saying that the prize support sucks, then it's getting to be a major problem.

And to all who say they haven't cut prizes and that they just "spread them around", please think of this.

You go to a job, and make $40 an hour. Your boss hires a new employ, and now you work the same amount of time as before, but only make $30 an hour. You still make $30 an hour so it's not that bad... Now a 3rd person comes in and you only make $20 an hour. Suddenly a 4th person comes in and you make just $10 an hour.

Now any sane person here would obviously start complaining that there were budget cuts. But wait... the total budget remained the same, it was just "spread" around more. So obviously you have no right to complain because, after all, there STILL is that $40 budget, and you should be happy to even make $10 an hour and have a job.

Tell me you wouldn't complain in that situation and you're a liar. Tell me that there haven't been prize cuts in pokemon, and you're a liar. :nonono:

You go to a job, and make $40 an hour. ....
DarthPika, reducing one's pay is the result of either disciplinary action or because of the redefining of job roles or job titles (for example, if someone were to step down from a Front End Supervisor to being a Cashier). In both cases, neither has anything to do with additional employees. Your anology not only doesn't apply here but also out of tune with reality. The employer does not decrease pay in the event he has hired too many employees, he decreases the frequency the employee works. For example, going from working 3 days a week to 1 day a week.

Tim, I was just using an example everyone can relate to. If you're going to be THAT picky, I can easily think of something else.

If I give away $100 a week to 10 kids they will each get $10. If I later expand my operations and give away $150 to 150 kids they each get $1. I'm giving away 50% more but those first 10 kids will all tell me that they hate the 90% cutback in what I'm giving them.
exactly. good post...

So seriously if you are going to be post “be happy you get anything at all” Remember this. We have to get something or a good 50% 0f the player base would quit. Remember that as you go back each year back to when Nintendo took over the game, you will see the prizes increase. Compare the prizes of tournaments from the RS-on day, to today, and look at the difference. Remember that players you yell at have been playing a LOT longer then you.

If I look back I only see an increase the other way around.
2004 nothing, no prizes, almost no tournaments
2005 some tournaments, very small prizes (like 4 booster for winning a States.
2009 even when paying to play for each tournament we have the same prizes as "advertised", this never happened before. We do have Battle Road, City, States and Nationals.
We can actually count on getting a trip when winning Nationals.

2010.............. Europe having GymChallenges, NA doesn't? (oke bad joke)

I warned the NA players over and over again back in 2003-2004, I asked them to speak up for those outside NA who only could look at that fabulous prizesupport, but never got so much.
I warned them if POP should do what was right things would be more equal distributed and not NA takes it all.

I was told to shut up, because it was fine for them and they were sorry for us, but not much they could do about it.
And now I should speak up for them? Really?
Oke here it goes.

I am sorry for all of you who got in the past way too much prizes for winning and now have to get used to "normal" prize support.
The prize structure as given out in 2009 was fine, and I hope it will continue.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

This is of course a matter of perspective. If I give away $100 a week to 10 kids they will each get $10. If I later expand my operations and give away $150 to 150 kids they each get $1. I'm giving away 50% more but those first 10 kids will all tell me that they hate the 90% cutback in what I'm giving them.

Good example, but the reality was
There were 15 kids, and $100.
10 got $10 each and the remaining 5 got nothing.

^ The Europeans don't make up CLOSE to half of the Pokémon players..... And as such we did not listen to them as if they had equal say. Minorities shouldn't be treated equally. As such you'd be more like 2 of the kids, not 5.

lol, I knew that would happen. :p
Still, I DO think that minorities shouldn't be treated equally.. Can you honestly disagree and have an example to back it up? :p

I know what you're trying to say, Box of Fail, but I'm laughing because it sounds dangerously close to being racist.

I have never won a tournament before, except for a Prerelease. I have never gotten a single "reward" for playing Pokemon. People sometimes have this false idea that when you have spread - out prize support, every one gets something. That is NOT true. Even though I'll never win 1st place for many years, I would still rather have 1st place get the main prize and the rest get nothing or a very small prize.

I think the times I pulled more players into a prerelease/tournaments as most of the NA TO's, you were still wetting your diapers.
IF we had gotten the same luxury support as NA that time, I doubt we would have "only" half of the players.

Without support in ANY form it's very hard (almost impossible) to keep things going.

Luckily I get a bit of a free ride because I come from a racial minority. :p It's just how society works.

So, saying that, we can safely ignore you because, hey, you're just a minority? I don't think so.

Now look at it this way. The EU has about ~60% more inhabitants as the USA does. (500 million vs 300 million) Therefore, the potentional market is ~60% larger. Put in equal support and see what CAN happen.

This is what new players think about boosters, the people that usually buy the boosters :/
And now tell me or boosters arent messed up >,>"

Just stumbled across this post and its expressing exactly what I think. And since he seems to be a new player (read: a GOOD HUMAN) and not someone who plays this game for a longer timer (read: a GREEDY MEAN HEARTLESS MONSTER) it might be more convincing ;)

And this is why or price support sucks... If you would get 4 decent boosters, ok. But if you dont gwet at least 10 boosters youll walk away with NOTHING 90% of the times. This is why people are dissapointed, do you want to walk away after winning a tournament with a mawile a sableye a camerupt and a surfign pikachu, and an age old promo no one wants? Does this feel like wining? Like achieving something? Is this a good memory for the first tournament you ever won? Really?

Then your problem is with whoever decides that Mawile is a rare and Surfing Pikachu is a secret rare. That's not prize support and it is outside of OP's jurisdiction.
Still, haven't packs that suck been around since Base Set?
