OP will let us know when they can. So many variables as to what may be going on. I dont have any answers, but I do have trust in Dave, Pete, Mike, Dan, Angela et al.

to what? eventually get it out? yeah, i do too.

it seems peculiar that it took more time this year, a decent amount longer, but there is an explanation, whether we hear it or not, and going by their good performance of their jobs in the past, we have no reason to think anything other than some weird circumstance preventing the normal flow of information.

Nothing to be worried about folks, things are just really hopping internally right now.
As soon as a couple major projects get wrapped up we will have more info for everyone. In the meantime what I can say is that as things currently stand you shouldn’t expect any really major changes from how things were done last year.

Does that mean there's no hope for a flight via rankings?

ps: thanks dan. =)

I will probably not be going if I can't win a trip...and it sucks, I see it costing something like $2,000 to make the trip without a travel award. I really wanted to go to worlds and experiance it at least once. Why on earth did they put it in hawaii?

I think 8 is too few, maybe expand it to 12 or 16. Either way, it'd be ridiculous to expect the majority of invitees to pay their own way out to Hawaii.

maybe I'm just being dumb but why would it be rediculous?

The cost of getting out there for anyone is extremely high. You can basically divide the invitees into two major groups: college-age kids and young children. College age kids are for the large part, quite poor and don't have $1200+ to shell out to attend a Pokemon tournament. For the young kids, Worlds is often a family affair, and thus a family would have to shell out a few thousand to bring the family along. It just seems unreasonable to expect the best players to pay thousands of dollars just to play in Worlds.

If you hold it, they will come (sorry Field of Dreams). Really, we hear this every year and they always seem to have great attendance!

I have to agree with Mondak on this one. Worlds should have the best players in the World there not the best of the players that can afford it. I would much rather see 8-12 payed invites than 25+ unpayed. jmo

Agreed. I'll be very disappointed if things remain the same as last year as they're no way I'd pay my way to worlds. If it were somewhere on the contiguous United States it'd be a great deal more reasonable.

I agree, but that isn't going to happen.

"Worlds should have the best players in the World..." But only so many get invites, right? How can the best players in the world be at worlds if only a small percentage of players from this country get to play in it?

"Not the best of the players that can afford it." Yet money plays a huge role in attending multiple battle roads, multiple cities, multiple states, regionals, and nationals (wherever it is).

"I would rather see 8-12 payed invites than 25+ unpayed." How are the best players in the world better represented by less people getting invites?

I don't disagree or agree with the ideas your proposing, I just feel some of the ideas are kind of ironic. You want better represenation, yet want less invites. You don't want the game to revolve around those that have $$$ yet a player has to have the best cards to do well and has to be able to attend many events to earn a rating invite.

In my own opinion, I'd like to see less invites given out through the grinder. If that isn't the ultimate sign of $$$ advantage, I don't know what is.
