Okay Lee Singleton has answerwed our cries for more info on UK GenCon and you professors who are judging out there should have heard from him by now ..

Here's a section from the information he sent me on all WotC CCGs at UK GenCon, edited by me, so that it just reflects Pokemon.

[QUOTE}
This year, Wizards of the Coast are bringing the Pokémon trading card games to UK GenCon. With tournaments and side events for all ages. You can locate us on the Ground Floor, just turn to your right after entering in through the main entrance.

Thursday 30th August

Pokémon &8211; GenCon Classic Challenge (2 pm)
Classic Constructed

Since the introduction of Modified formats into Pokémon many players have been itching to play some of the strategies of yesterday updated with new cards from the later sets. Now you can with the GenCon Classic Challenge. Will you be the one who walk away with Classic Crown?

Friday 30th August

Pokémon &8211; GenCon Team Challenge (11am)

Can you and your teammate battle to become champions in this the first sanctioned Team Event to be taking place in England?

Saturday 31st August

Pokémon &8211; Gym Challenge (11am)
Modified Constructed

Battle in one of two age groups (10 and Under and 11 to 14), to win your qualification to the Pokémon Worlds 2003. Have you got what it takes to be crowned the winner.

Sunday1st September

Now the Professors take centre stage. Have you got what it takes to win this event? With a great looking professor jacket and other goodies to be won, you don&8217;t want to miss out on this event.

Side Events

We will be running side events all day and all night, any format, for all of our card games! If you want to play it, we&8217;ll run it. All you have to do is ask!

For more information on any of our game floor rules and deck strategy, check out www.wizards.com or see the UK GenCon website at http://genconuk.com
[/QUOTE]

I have been asked by some of the Professors to point out that the prices quoted on the Leaflets that we were all sent are wrong as they fail to mention that under 16's get in half price!

So that means the prices are as follows..

quote:

Days Adult Under 16 Under 4
1 Ł10.00 Ł5.00 Free
2 Ł15.00 Ł7.50 Free
3 Ł20.00 Ł10.00 Free
4 Ł25.00 Ł12.50 Free

Notes

Proof of age may be required.
Wizards of the Coast will not be providing any form of creche / child-minding facilities.
Right of admission reserved.

The UK professor event on Sunday may start earlier than the announced time. 10am rather than 11am.

Otherwise it is scheduled to finish 1 hour after Gencon closes!

Of maybe the Rochester will have to be adjourned/abandoned

This topic is getting kinda old and hard for newcomers. I suggest we make a new Gencon UK topic. Then we can discuss everything about Gencon. People that are new here, and start on page 1, really can't see what it's all about.

Lee has confirmed just now that the Tournament on Saturday is indeed Modified TR on - NOT NEON.

As much as we would have liked to host the first Neon Tourney outside the US at UK GenCon because the notice has already gone out that it is modified and because modified does not change until teh 1st September the Tourney on the 31st August will be Modified.

So guys and gals it's one last round of Gatrmon'

Splendid ! [Mad]

When I spoke to Lee on about the 15th he confirmed to me that it was definately going to be NEON!

But then when I asked about plans/timings/formats/organisation I was told that he was planning on leaving that up to MTM, and if that didn't work the prof/helpers.

NoPoke,

I am sorry to say this is probably due to me as I told Lee that having posted that it is modified on the UK GenCon website and as modified does not change until the 1st September .. we must honour that original format as per the website..

Otherwise I can see chaos on the day and us profs being unable to put it right as we can't sell cards to those that would need replacements.

As it is I expect some players to turn up with wrong cards and I will be trying to put a pack of essentials together to take with me..

Okay Guys and Gals did you see the comments on Promo's and Leagues at last nights Chat?

To paraprase ..MTM said

quote:
master_trainer_mike says, "The promos rotating out are"
master_trainer_mike says, "1. Pikachu (came out in 9/99)"
master_trainer_mike says, "2. Electabuzz (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"
master_trainer_mike says, "3. Mewtwo (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"
master_trainer_mike says, "4. Pikachu (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"
master_trainer_mike says, "5. Dragonite (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"
master_trainer_mike says, "6. Arcanine (came out in 2000 in the league)"
master_trainer_mike says, "7. Jigglypuff (Atlantic records promotion with first movie soundtrack)"
master_trainer_mike says, "8. Mew (came out in League 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "9. Holo Mew (same, given out as classic card in Year 3 League)"
master_trainer_mike says, "10. Meowth (came with ETCG for Gameboy in 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "11. Eevee (came out in League 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "12. Mewtwo (given to Nintendo Power subscribers in 2000, reprinted in Legendary Collection)"
master_trainer_mike says, "13. Venusaur (came out in ETCG Strategy Guide only)"
master_trainer_mike says, "14. Mewtwo (variant art of promo 3, came with DVD of first movie)"
master_trainer_mike says, "15. Cool Porygon (came with Nintendo 64 Stadium Bundle and Victory Road Season Year 1 League)"
master_trainer_mike says, "16. Computer Error (came out in League 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "17. Dark Persian (given to Nintendo Power subscribers in 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "18. Team Rocket's Meowth (came out in League 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "19. Sabrina's Abra (given to Nintendo Power subscribers in Oct 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "20. Psyduck (came out in Victory Road Year 1 League in 2000)"
master_trainer_mike says, "As you can see these are all fairly old cards and so it was time to rotate them out."
master_trainer_mike says, "When Modified next changes, be prepared to see more of the black star cards rotate out."

And then followed with ..

quote:
master_trainer_mike presents the speaker with question 71 from the_maple_bar:
If you guys released the older Promos during this year's League, why did you take them out in MMF?
darkmt_mike says, "Nice name."
master_trainer_mike says, "Because, promo cards are also released just so new players can have a chance to collect them."
master_trainer_mike says, "There are quite a few less leagues this year than in the past (especially in Europe) and those olsder cards are still not in great supply in many areas."

Given that here in the UK we haven't even had some of the cards being banned the first time round and as we have still not started League Yr3 this is just stupid [NoNoNo]

So when we eventually get the year 3 promo's we will be giving out cards that cannot be used!
Look here's the reprints that we cannot play in NeOn..

quote:

"2. Electabuzz (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"

"3. Mewtwo (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"

"4. Pikachu (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"

"5. Dragonite (given out at the first Pokemon movie, given out as classic card in Year 3 league)"

As to the falling numbers of leagues I think tat can be directly attributed to not having anything to give out as Promo's .. difficult to keep leagues going without having something as a hook.

Oh WotC what have you done to us lot outside the US again? Do you really know what is going on here .. and by that I mean what is happening not what you are told is happening?

The only good note in this is that it is Sept 1st again so will not effect UK GenCons GC on the 31st August.

Banning Promo's [NoNoNo] [NoNoNo] , and does tis mean you cannot play TK Mewtwo or just not the black star one?
