sorry to say this guys and gals, but if there is any more trouble on this board after this post, i will start a new europe topic. Also, if i have to carry this out, the people who continue the trouble, and they wwill be named, will not be invited to the new topic.

I am sorry to get so up tight with you all, but it has gone too far.

heya Mazzy,

I mentioned somewhere on the internet some time before Amsterdam that the 3 rounds and only one major 15+ event would make the whole Stadium Challenge pretty cutthroat for all concerned. All of what I'm seeing, on the boards and in AIM conversations with TE members, is pretty much a result of the fallout of perhaps months if not years of lagging behind the development of Pokémon in Europe compared to the US.

Goodness knows though what would - and could - have happened had MTM not come over to suggest ways forward to the European WotC reps. It's clear that WotC-UK has taken heed, although that said I think I've made it clear how it would be nice to have our first 15+ champion crowned in a befitting way. I think also that with the right press coverage at GenConUK, we could use the opportunity to say to everyone that Pokémon as a TCG has never gone away at all, and is alive and well.

I really am looking forward to playing the Profs in the UK event. Win, lose, or draw all my matches, it'll be nice to at least send someone from the UK to judge at the World Championships and to get to know them too.

Sorry but I disagree with you pro. Accept the facts that there isn't as much money in pokemon as before. Therefore WotC just CAN'T put as much money in prizes as before! That's just the way it is. Accept it and go on with your life. And stop whining about it.

Being dissappointed in the way some show here cough Freddy K cough is pure childish!

I give up I wasn't aware that I was whining all I was trying to say is that I can see both points of view, sheesh if this hadn't got so out of hand perhaps you would have recognised a supporter!

As it is I have only one last thing to say .. STOP the ARGUING and lets go play [Smile]

As for Freddy's behaviour well we all lose it sometimes and isn't it great that he feels so passionate about this game? All I am saying is lets take that passion and do something with it.

Freddy is a real asset to Pokemon in the UK and Europe as are you.. now lets all calm down and get on with making Leagues and OP great in Europe.

And I do agree that the money isn't flooding in like it did in the bad old days but you can still support the product and with smarter European wide marketing and structures maybe even sell more!

But, while WotC Europe remains divided from WotC UK, France and Italy then there is bound to be confusion and chaos..

We are lucky that through working with WotC UK, pushing, arguing and showing them that there is a market we have earned more events ... all I am arguing for is European parity with the US ..

Now I am off to try and invent the killer deck to end all killer decks .. ah brains dead .. xerox anyone?????

Come on everyone... Let's all try and see everyone's point of view. We don't have to accept other people's points of view, but at least try and respect them.

Dumbledore.. Of course you are entitled to a point of view, but you have to try and understand things from other people's perspective. Think about it. People don't have to agree with you on everything. In this case, I think that the majority don't.. Just try to accept that...

<From across The Pond, the fourth registered Professor opens himself up to international abuse>

I would normally not intervene, but I hate to say it, you guys (and gals) are starting to sound like the destructive forces over here in the States. We have enough to do to fight 'The Cancer' without having a whole continent self destruct.

I think you need to take a step back, fire away at a neutral target for awhile (don't worry, I'm steel reinforced and coated with Teflon (R) ), and comeback refreshed and able to work constructively between yourselves. If you just want to shoot at me and tell me to butt out, that's fair. But remember, Wizards is watching you here, and what comes in the future is partly based on how you behave, just like over here.

Mention how Amsterdam wasn't up to expectation, and I'm accused of being a sore loser.

Mention how side events weren't organised for four hours and I'm accused of being in the Prof Program just for entering tournaments.

Mention how the Prof event started over five hours after it was scheduled to start and I'm accused of being impatient.

Mention how frustrated when fair play wasn't shown by opponents in the rounds and I'm told I'm being childish and immature, egocentric and unsympathetic to younger players.

Mention how the event's final rounds were not Rochester and Gym Drafted as planned like in all the other Stadium Challenges, and I'm told I'm being unrealistic.

Mention how badly some of the decisions for the final of the Professor draft were called and I'm told to shut up and stop bullying younger Team Europe members for mistakes made early in the morning.

Mention how I would like the UK to send a Professor to judge at Worlds, and I'm now accused of being greedy and materialistic.

Mention how WotC-UK have never sent anyone 15+ to an overseas Premier Pokémon event, and I'm told the game's not about trips it's about FUN like as if I'm not supposed to not what that word means anymore.

Mention how we'd like to raise the stakes at our only 15+ event this year, and I'm told I'm not thankful for the four day event at GenConUK.

quote:
This game will die if we don't get more support and if WOTC and their distributors won't promote the game more!
/Dumbledore

How better a way is there to promote a game towards older players other than elevating the status of such play to the same level of the younger players?

It's worked so well in the past, look at the numbers for the past STSQs in Europe!

Now, well it's like we're add-ons for such events. At the end of the day, I and I'm sure a lot of other 15+ are prepared to work for their fair share of OP, but when we work for it and results are not exactly forthcoming... we can all see here that WotC-UK haven't announced a 15+ prize of judge at Worlds 2003 and that we're being kept in hope. But. It's happened in the past and IMHO WotC must stop making the rules up for this relationship as they see fit.

Once they start to be clear on what the parameters are, what's allowed within budgetary concessions and what isn't, then perhaps we can work with them.

Without all that, we as older players are in limbo and don't know what's around the corner. No events for France this year, none for the Scandinavian regions, none for Spain and Portugal. Guys! This is something to be upset about for all European players! And you still want to make concessions about OP in Europe? Where did the TMB winner of 2001 come from? What do you think he's playing nowadays?

Michel says we have to work with WotC-Europe. Well, I would like to welcome them back on this thread and ask them for what's ahead of us now. They HAVE to involve us for the success of Pokémon, we are the ones with our ears to the ground and we are FULL of ideas on what to do on the local levels, to enhance the promotion of the game.

But we're not involved and as an unco--ordinated 'Team' I'm not surprised that once one or two have had their share the rest of Europe are being left behind to fend for themselves. Yes, I'm talking about the team. This isn't a representation of European players, it's at the moment those players who have found the boards. Can we please maybe get a little passionate and reasonably contraversial, because controversy is one half of the discovery of new ideas and ways forward to me?

And it's got us to where we are right now. What if Eskil thought, 'Well we gotta be thankful of events in Europe period' when he didn't have the chance to compete for the 'Trip' to the STS again, in 2000 - 2001? There would be NO TEAM EUROPE.

And I'm proposing and continuing exactly the same cause. Equality for our fair share of continuously helping out and supporting the game. We'll carry on helping regardless of trips or no trips, events or no events. But we'd like to head the game in this direction, one of premier OP events. What's so wrong with that?

But some people just forget and roll over, and accept things for the way that they are.

Within reason okay, but, if you don't ask, you don't get. I'm asking, what can we really do now, WOTC, to help you get there? As soon as possible?

Ok, I'm all for the equality with the US in overall tourneys and trips. Seems like we, the whole of Europe, should have an equal number of events and trips as we have about an equal number of inhabitants/players. As always I support the cause of TE in getting this to all of Europe.
For the last year that I have played in the tournament scene in the Netherlands, I have played in only one DCI rated event, (yes Stadium Challenge Amsterdam), I know this might be a problem the TO's should handle by just getting a DCI sanction for the Tourney, but it seems unfair that someone who wants to play for the fun of it and mess with his DCI rating should go to far off places like Belgium to do that frequently.
If I am wrong about the lack of DCI events in the Netherlands, please correct me about it, Michel, Frans, Jori, Mark or anyone in TE or of the Netherlands, that might know better.

Well if you have so many idea's of what to do in local play to promote the game, why don't you share those idea's with us so that we can all try them localy. If they are so great it must mean that we could gain tons of new players. Please state them in the Constructive topic so we can easily find them.

And there was a lot more going on in Amsterdam.....

A quick response

Why Amsterdam had to change everything?

Because, Golduck, 'Team' members _don't_ stab each other in the back when playing each other in a tournament. There was nothing 'Team' about the Prof event, it was cut-throat and the blades were out during, and clearly after that event.

NEW CHALLENGE
I have something to think about for all the people who have time enough to spend time on this board and who are willing to help me.
After the summerholiday i'm starting a GYM overhere in my hometown. I have an open house on july 3. What should i present on july 3.
I have invited some players from Amsterdam and i need more. The meaning of this open house is to let people see how we are playing the Pokemongame. They can walk in and look, but do i need more to present the game.
If anyone of you is living nearby Aalsmeer let me know if you are willing to come overthere next week, just to play and give information to people who walk in.
There are no prices to earn or anything else, because i already have to pay the rent of that place. So for all players who are really involved in the game you are welcome.

At the end of August the Gym is a fact and i´m planning to start with easy lessons in the basic rules of the game.
For the first week i have the following topics in mind.
1. What kind of pokemons are there (grass/water etc.
2. What is damage related to HP
3. Energycards were do you need them for and how do you play them
4. Evolving in a stage 1 pokemon.

I made some water-fire decks to let the new kids play and after a break i will tell them about
1. Weakness
2. Retreat
3. Paralyzed

I made the choise to let out trainercards and other special conditions, because i remember how i learned to play. There was to much information in 1 time and most kids will back off because of that.
The week after i will tell about Trainercards and more special conditions. For that week i have made decks with electric-fight and grass-psychic.
For the third week i will let them build decks for themselves with the cards they have played with the weeks before.

Before you give comment to this post remember that the kids who are coming don´t know anything about the game.
Most of them will not have the cards yet to build a deck, because most children dropped their energy and trainercards in the bin as useless.

So if you have any suggestions how to promote the Gym or information how to learn kids the game without getting nuts myself i will be thankfull.
I take a great risk to rent a place just for starting a Gym, but the retailers are not interrested in the Liga only in selling cards.
Because i found out that playing the Pokemongame is a nice thing to do, i want to bring the game into the public overhere. So if any suggestions are coming into you mind, email me or put a reply on this board. Meaby future gymleader can use this info.

Your right Freddy
But here in Holland we are sprotive about such things and happy when a friend winns the trip
Sure I Like to go to Seattle too because two of my Friends are going to be there with parents who don´t have a clue about pokemon so
But don´t fight and otherwhise
You are paying all so much to be in tournaments all over the world to win a trip
why dont buy a ticket yourself it´s cheaper
That´s my point

Mew35, they just like to play the game, get all around Europe to meet innovative and good players and just have fun. Even though some of these things might be present in some events, they can not be there in other events, they still go because they are competetive and want to, whatever the cost they are willing to pay for, it's their decision. But y'all have fun at GenCon UK if you're going, y'hear.
