Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Idea for a Gym Leader system

About that post, like I said earlier, each gym will have their own rules and one of them being no team countering. No Ice and Thunder against the Flying gym leader or you won't get the badge and having 1 or 2 wild cards in your team . Think of it this way, we are not taking the video game approach to this.

Banned Pokemon and move, items and clauses are up the the gym leader. Its their gym and their rules so if they allow Lugia, Lugia is allowed. and as for getting experienced players to do it. I know a few but gym leader tryout would be needed.

I know no one else is as adamant about becoming they flying type gym leader then me. Well, almost anyway.

Ditto is the perfect breeding pokemon for many reasons, one of these reasons is based on a unique game mechanic called the Everstone Trick. This trick allows Ditto's nature to be passed from itself to VG pokemon offspring in a 50-50 chance. Having multiple Ditto allows a player to pass on a variety of different natures to VG pokemon offspring, one nature each Ditto.

I suppose, but getting the right nature on to what you are breeding has always been the easiest part for me. Never had to use an army of dittos.

I guess using legendaries could be up to the GL, but if you have an ice type GL who allows the usage of Articuno, regiice, and none others is just silly. And yes, lots of the FB's used legendaries (especially the factory head, I hate that guy).

Im in favor of allowing GLs to control the conditions of their gym, but it should be well documented and not subject to much change.

i've been playing since 1996 when it first debuted and competively since 2003 or 4, was in the final 8 of JAA in my region (shiftry, golem, gengar, and lapras against groudons, kogures, mewtwo's etc) and i have wom many tournaments on other websites and conventions. with all this experience i can safely assure you that a gym leader system will not be able to work here.

not saying its a bad idea but there is no incentive for people to battle other than to say hey i beat a gym leader. they can easily enough go to someone and say he lets battle and you pick the rules.

to actually get a system in place and keep it running for a month or two without failing, you need something that people can win. that is why and elite 4 system is better than a gym leader system. if you want to implement some aspects of the gym leaders system such as each elite 4 has special rules, there is no problem with that.

but again this way makes it so people have an actually reason to battle memebers of the elite 4, and will set up a series or tournaments to make the elite 4 fresh and changing (how would you replace gym leaders who just don't battle or go afk). at least with here there is a ranking system and lets say a elite 4 has to battle at least one person every 5 days, if not he gets dropped and whoever came in 5th place gets promoted. its much more reliable and with few members it will usually have the best and the most active players running the show

in the case of the flying gym (hypotheical) banning ice and lighting makes it kind of pointless and in favor of the gym leader and loses the lack of skill which is the problem with typed gyms unless you got with looks, or weight classes

again proving how much planning, thought, and dedication to get something this big off the ground.

If this does get going i believe that this could be very fun, and i am sure that prizes would not be much of a problem.

What i was thinking about is instead of having an elite four and champion, do it like the Anime and have a "Tournament of Champions" of sorts. To participate, you require ALL the badges from the gym leaders.

If we have a tournament for the people who complete the gyms, it would add incentive to get the badges.
Also, it is a whole lot easier to give out prizes if there are clear top finishers in the tournament of champions.

Well said. I never thought of a tournament of champions.

I'm not saying ban all attack types you're weak too. I'm saying no team countering. Don't bring a team of spamming what is good against the gym. Yeah you can plan but to bring a team of Fighting types to a rock type gym is considered team counting. I'm not saying you can't bring them because everyone had a fighting type Pokemon or at least a Pokemon that can us a Fighting type move.

Remember, were not thinking about the game here.

I really like ultimatedra's idea. This way, you can have the 8 GL's for people to challenge (and hopefully some runners up in case one of them stops participating) And then allow all the winners (people with 8 badges) to showdown at the end. This allows for a fairly easy prize structure.

The issue still stands about bringing a team to counter a specific GL. Someone mentioned the idea of having them register a team and then stick with it for the remainder of the challenge. I think that isnt a horrible idea. Possibly allow them to switch one pokemon between challenges, although this method may not work if all the GL's have local gym rules.

what if the GL battles were double battle?
And as far as a GL having a theme, the GL would not realy need to fully comprise the team souly on a specific type.
example team:
Electric:
Joltion
Lanturn
metagross
gangar
The GL would be able to use o few "blocker" pokemon to keep people from a counter team. The GL should have at least two pokemon that match the theme they chose, but not be required to use the same two thru-out. They could switch up the two pokemon of the theme as often as they wanted too to keep their team new and fresh as well as unpredictable.

Like Arcanine I like Ultimatedra idea about the E4 thats is something that I thought that would always be fun to do. The idea about the GL's is great and the cons with it I think you'll have that problem with any thing that last for so time. I wouldn't mind being one of the GL's but I just got into back in to school and I have a job so anyone that would battle me would have to do it around the things that I have to do. Again one of the cons but if we can work things out were all of the GL's are able to be dedicated to the roll of GL that would be real nice. If I was a GL I already have my rules made up but the only thing I would have any problem with is my team. I have three different types that I would like to be but thats nether here or now. I hope that with the help of everyone we could get this off the ground.

even if you had a tourny with just the people who won 8 badges, that would just make it so that people would not want ot be gym leaders.

with 8 gyms that just makes it so that 20 people who regulary play 8 would be cut out for the gyms. a tourny with 8 people isn't to great. again this is why a 4 people and champoin is better. always rotating and giving constant rewards. if people are so set on having "types or special rules" each member can still make his own. the only real difference between my idea and the leaders idea is mine is safer with a total of 4 people who need to be contacted instead of 8. that and my tournament structure allows everyone to fight for thier positions and earns them.

and even if you add up the 14 and 9 votes, 23 is not enough to start a league, specially a 8 member gym leader structure

I under stand your point but if we made it were we had two different poeple for one gym then the GL's could battle the other for the badge. That way everyone would have a chance to be in the championships in the end. Also it would change up the pokemon that everyone would be battleing in each gym. I would like to be a fire or a dragon type GL and then that way I would be able to battle a fire or dragon type GL. Also with two GL's then people would have more of a chance to get in and have there battle. So maybe if that system would work thats what we could do. Then if one of the GL's drop out then theres one left to battle and give time to find another for that gym and the tournament would be awsome if we have a lot of people in the running for the tourny then we could have more then one going on at one time and the ones that place in the top 2 of each could go on and battle that others in the running. So that way the top battler would be able to say that they are the top of the league. Then we could start a new one after that with new poeple and new badges to get.

You may not have noticed, but several people in this thread have already expressed interest in being a GL. I think being a "boss" is motivation enough for people. Also, who cares if it isnt a full-blown tournament. If we wanted a tournament, we would have one (there is one going on).

This is a fun imitation of the in-game system. If only 4 or so people make it to the finals, so be it.
