Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Top Cut Invitational: Tournament of Champions

The BEST players should be based on TOP 4 Nationals and TOP 4 Worlds finishes.
Mainly because those are the two hardests tournament all year around!
Thats where a players skills are truly pushed to the test and it shows how good they really are!
Your States and Regionals wins don't mean anything if you can't top 4 at nats or worlds.
Sure winning a states and regionals is good but your just another states and regionals winner, nothing more.
Sure top cutting at Nationals and Worlds is good but how good is it when you can't reach 1st-4th place?
Its easy to top 128, top 64, and top 32. Its HARD to top 4!

My top 8 (IN ORDER, with putting my EGO aside otherwise i'd be #1 lol)

#1 Pooka (1st at nats, 2nd at nats, 3rd at nats)
#2 Ness (1st worlds two time champ)
#3 Yamato (1st worlds, 3rd worlds, nats winner)
#4 Sami Sek (Multiple nats champ, 2nd worlds)
#5 Chris Ful (1st at nats, 2nd at worlds)
#6 Gino Lomb (1st at nats, 3rd at worlds)
#7 Jay Hor (2nd at nats, 3rd at worlds)
#8 Jeremy Maro (1st at worlds, 3rd at worlds)

'I didn't include these following players in the top 8 because they are ONE HIT WONDERS as of right now because they have only won one big event and nothing more'
Other Top Players

Con Le
Martin Mor
Seena
Justin Sanc
Yuta
the 2010 world champ
the 2007 world champ
Steve Silves
Frank Dia
Jimmy O Bri
Jimmy Balla
Alex B
Drew Ho
Darrel Mor
Tom D
The Nance Brothers
Dylan L (worlds champ in senior, top 4 masters 2011)
Curran H (dont really know him to well but i think had success in seniors)
Any Mexico/Canada Nats Champ

Theres alot of great junior and senior players in this game that have won the big one but until they TOP 4 at nationals or worlds in the masters like Dylan L did im going to leave them out.

Sorry if im missing some people and forgot some ppl. I dont know EVERYONEs stats.

Gino, Worlds > Nats...Jeremy should be 4 or 5th on the list. Also as Son of Apollo said, Yuta Won and T4'd worlds.

As far as CDN nationals go, Gordon Coats has a 1st (2006), 2nd(2010), 3rd(2005), 4th (2007). He's also top cut'd Worlds a few times altho Im not sure if he made it to top 8 or not.

Also, doesn't pooka have 4 top4 at US nats?

Ask ness whats harder to top 4 at, worlds or nats. Im pretty sure he'll agree that nationals is harder to top 4 then it is to top 4 at worlds. Thats why pookas the best player. Who cares if he tanks at worlds ea. year lol.

Pooka told me that he's been in T8 the last 5 USNationals, minimum. Dude's a beast...

Yea Kyle has:

2nd '04
1st '09
3rd '10
2nd '11

I would agree that Nationals is a harder tournament than Worlds to do well in

How ironic that Pooka's on the top of Gino's list and yet he readily ascribes so much of his success to luck (anyone watch his Top Cut interviews?) That humility is what makes him a role model, which is especially impressive when you consider the size of the egos of most top players. When he missed flip after flip in top 2, he just grinned where so many would have slammed the table in frustration. We need more people like that at the top tables imo.

In Gino's defense, I think the whole ego thing he does is only joking around (could be wrong, so correct me if I'm wrong here Gino). But I've talked to Gino a bit and he always seems like a really cool kid, isn't too cocky. I say isn't too cocky because when you've achieve what he has achieved in this game I think you deserve to be somewhat cocky. Gino can be a bit cocky, but he has every right to be, and doesn't over due it like some other players.

When you're compairing the tournaments straight up sure....but you also have to consider the fact that worlds requires an invitation.

Dont get me wrong tho, I'd still keep Kyle on top of the list

I'll second this. Gino's only ever been nice to me. :thumb:

We need more players like Gino. You think people will want to join the game because we have good role models? No. Gino's got a big personality, he's controversial. People want to watch that.

This is getting ridiculous.
Now you're just making this into a difficult math equation determining who deserves to be invited and who does not.
Let them choose who they want, it's their tournament and they can at least guarantee that the people chosen are champions in some way or another. And as they stated, they'll probably have more of these tournaments and with more people invited so if you aren't chosen this time, there is always the next one.

And as many people have stated above, there is much more to being a champion than the actual wins themselves.

No publicity is bad publicity. If a post by Gino Lombardi causes this thread to be the hottest topic on PokeGym...then more people will hear about the Top Cut Invitational and more people will watch the tournament. I think this is a good thing....

Also didn't Yamato get t8 at Worlds in 2005 too?
I also have to agree, that Gino's ego(whether it is a joke or not, tbh IDC) does make me more interested in watching this tourney, but i would watch anyways b/c the most awesome player is in it :)
Also Gino I think if I had to pick any Mex/Can players I'd go w/ these guys-

Curtis L
Reed M
Pablo Meza
Jacob L

There are so many really good players if only there was a tournament that we could hold once a year that let all the best players in the worlds get together and compete against each other...

Like some sort of World Championship event???

We have one of those every year!!!

Unfortunately, we can invite only 8 players this time around. Clearly there are more than 8 National and World Champions, so some people are going to get left out. If a player feels like he got snubbed or overlooked, we apologize. In the future, we will have bigger events assuming this goes well. We know who the good players are, and they will get their chance to shine eventually - Gino especially. We have our reasons for why we chose these players for the inaugural Top Cut Invitational, and I'll leave it at that.

Jay, we could set something like that up. We were planning on doing something like that with the people from Top Cut, but we could do Lafonte, too. Just let me know when you would want to do that - maybe Thursday?
Posted with Mobile style...

I am not trying to burn any bridges, but how does Justin Sanchez get priority over Gino or Martin Moreno? Justin's only real accomplishment is his 1st place at this year's nationals.(along with a top 4 at regionals in florida this year)

Gino right off the bat is one of the only people that have come close to winning US Nats and Worlds in Masters.

Martin Moreno is the only undefeated National Champion and has a record of 27-2 through all the nationals he has gone to.

I understand that you can only pick so many people, and some people can't even get to worlds this year, but I think you should reconsider the roster of people you are inviting.
