Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Canadian National Championship 2013

I have been in belief of this for a long time
Ontario judges are quite possibly the worst(and ive traveled alot in my 12 year pokemon career)
There are maybe 1-2 good ones.

but the main ones, are all bad.
we need a changing of the judges and a system in canada(they are also biased alot of the times and will be more lenient on people they know and harsh to people they dislike).
I dont care much i come out for fun once a year, since i dont care about the game anymore.

Its pretty obvious nintendo doesnt care much about pokemon canada.

we didnt even get t-shirts this year.
and i got a binder for top32

this is a joke...right?

"Stop calling this declumping. Declumping is maybe moving a couple cards around. If you fully evenly distribute Pokemon/TSS/energy throughout your deck you are simply "deck stacking." That's just cheating." -Matt Moss 2013

This is a complete disgrace to call out the judges in Ontario. Without our judges tournaments wouldn't be possible. I don't know when any biased call was made and in my entire playing career have never heard anybody sour about the Ontario judges. I don't know what biased means to you, but the judges aren't biased. All the judges are the nicest people you will meet and are very helpful and respectful to all players regardless of where they are from.

Have you ever took an exotic decklist from a "pro" player and wonder how the hell this can work ?
Then you try the deck and notice that the deck is unstable because you never draw supporters, and you still see the pro player winning all his games with the same decklist...

After seeing the Curtis VS Lesage match now you know why !

PS: Since I shuffle "pro" players deck before the match, I have less problems to beat them. I will continue to fight those stackers.

Want some cheese with that? Might I postulate one of two things? Either you dislike them for the same reason most people dislike policemen - because they don't allow you to do whatever the heck you like, or #2) perhaps they have real reason to dislike your antics due to your past record of poor behaviour and therefore have good reason to view you and any problems you might be involved in with a certain degree of skepticism and possibly even contempt. Changing your attitude will go a long way toward changing their attitude towards you.

Seeing that they knew what happened, and they enforce everyone to play fairly and good sportsmanship, why were both players simply giving a warning? It was called in from the stream and were notified almost as soon as it happened. I watched the stream and saw the stacking happen right before my eyes. Like what an earlier person said, they were given a warning for a huge infraction! And to be fair to the judges, the day of Swiss, they were pretty strick when it came to warnings and cautions. What I still don't understand is how a person on the day of Swiss nearly got DQed for drawing an extra card and you have deck stackers(most likely through the whole tournament) get away and be treated the same way as the person who drew the extra card for reasons that the judges and players highly go against.

what exactly is "stacking"? and does it typically occur at the start of a match or during. i was at the tournament with my son and would like any info for future events.

thanks

Stacking is when you place a certain card on top of your deck so that you draw what you want instead of a random card. It could happen at any point.

What happened in this tournament wasn't "stacking" it was a manipulation of random chance. It happened before each match. One player separated his deck into 3 piles of Pokemon, Trainers, and Energy. Then, when he pile shuffled, his deck was distributed evenly instead of strictly randomly.

The best way to prevent this is to shuffle your opponent's deck every time they offer you a cut, especially before a game. You are allowed to fully shuffle their deck, not just to cut it. If you still think they are manipulating their deck, you can call a judge over and ask them to shuffle it.

I didn't see the videos, so it's probably best not for me to take a side on if someone stacked their deck, and who it was, or why it was or wasn't caught by judging staff, but the best way to avoid a problem is UNFAILINGLY shuffle your opponent's deck like Kazambolt says. Don't get into the rut of thinking that all pokemon players are saints and would never do such a thing to me, or I know this person and they have such a good reputation. No, make double sure you shuffle. It's for your protection.

There were about 100 or more so people who watched the stream and realized that some people were performing the double nickel shuffle. In most cases and in people's perspectives, that is considered cheating and stacking your deck. Some people are saying that some of them used it but later sorted their deck so it wasn't clumped. They used the double nickel shuffle twice to stack their deck. I myself saw the stream when this happened and in fact the stacking is 100% true.

I, for one, am not surprised by these claims of stacking. Some of the top Masters players in Canada have been known to or have been suspected of cheating. I am also not surprised by some of the claims on this thread that the judges favour certain players...some of those same Masters players usually stick together as a clique and are friends and/or acquaintances of some of the judges and the TO. It seems like every year it is the same people who go to Worlds. Hmmmm...

Now, I do not have concrete evidence of this "cheating" nor have I seen the video mentioned in this thread; all I have certain facts that I have been told by judges and what I read on this thread. I apologize if not all of the people I am talking about take part in this stacking...but given the atmosphere of the Ontario Pokemon scene and the lackluster judging that goes on (by some judges, though there are some good ones), I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of cheating has been going on for a while.

I have stopped playing Pokemon competitively for some time now because of this poisonous atmosphere that exists in Ontario Pokemon events. The game is no longer about having fun, top people have been banned and have been caught cheating, and there seems to be little to no action being done to ensure that this game remains fair and friendly to players of all skill levels. I always feel so sorry for the Seniors that advance into Masters and have to come across of deal with this sort of stuff in a game that is supposed to be about having fun, not about how many CPs you can round up.

As a connoisseur of stacking videos, I look forward to seeing the one in question here.

I will go this far....I know some Canadian Judges, and not knowing who was doing what here, I have a lot of respect for my Canadian Judge friends, so an accusation against the judges of an event is going to be taken quite seriously.

I will ask that you recall that the last person who got caught AND BANNED for stacking was not caught at the event, but only on video after it was reviewed by the masses.

The judges gave them a warning for stacking. How can you say there's no favouring being shown?

Oh so banning kevin lee for 1 year because he drew an extra card AT A CITY CHAMPS and stacking cards at a nationals gets a warning.
Oh no thats not biased.

Oh wait me having my cessation crystals that were JPN(even though I told them I could get a english copy from their Skyfox store AND I had a printed translation and yes I was deck checked prior) forcing me to replace them with energy cards(this was Top8 already game 3 in a bo3)
While next year I see a a person with foreign cards, no translation, and isnt forced to replace them.

yeah nooooooooooooo bias at all.

OH WAIT
how about the time where the head judge son was playing against me and he made a mistake of using his power when he couldnt and I made a mistake of using my power when I couldnt, and he gets a 1 prize penalty and I get a 3 prize penalty.
(head judge made the call)
yeah nooooooooooooo bias at alll

Oh yeah I happen to be "random" deck checked every tournament
Oh funny story, I once got deck checked 3x in a row(pre reg-during-after) nothing was wrong till I hit top cut when they deck checked me and said my sleeves were bad.

Oh wait how about I told Marvin I lost/forgot my POP ID during nationals last weekend(since I havent played in 2 years) and he REFUSED to give me a new pop id(told me to log into the website and get but how can I do that with no internet) and finally gave me one when other people also forgot their POP ID

Thats why I left the pokemon scene in ontario only come back for Nationals, which i wont since the prizes are just bad now.

It's easy for me not to take a position, I wasn't there and I haven't seen the facts as of yet!!!

If a player was caught "de-clumping" then a simple warning may be in order for the first run.

If there was more, more might be needed. No evidence gives me nothing to based an opinion on.

The only opinion you got from me was that I have respect for the Canadian Judges I have worked with in the past at Worlds. No names, just a statement, from personal experience.

I am not authorizing or condoning any action I have no information about.
