Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

“Dirty Decks Done Dirt Cheap” –afstandopleren Wins! Cyrus 2nd Check Out Their Decks

Sadly I'll miss the results of Pod 4. I'm going on a holiday tomorrow XD Good luck to everyone and I hope to be in the top 5 with my deck LOL.

After playing in this format at my league for a good month and a half I feel that there are some issues with a good portion of the decks built for this tournament.

I've noticed a lot of the deck builders in this format have forgotten the basics of deck building in that Draw Power is almost non existent. Many of the decks I played against had no or bad draw power and this caused them to fail. Many of the best draw cards in this format are not being used. Cards that allow people to setup are a key part to the game in any format. For those that make it to the next level in the tournament consider using cards like Pt Vulpix and Aerodactyl Gl which only cost $0.25 and have free energy attacks which allow you to draw at least 2 extra cards a turn depending on who you use.

Also many of those who have built these decks are ignoring cards that do well at actual modified tournaments. While some decks are impossible to build for under $25. There are decks which can be built such as T-Tar, Scizor, and Dusknoir to name a few. However one must also realize that decks in this format can deal a lot of damage even though there are slightly less options. And finally the reason why many decks are expensive in the first place is because they use cards that improve the consistency/speed of a deck. So While some decks which require Lv. Xs can't be built and other cards which are highly sought after can't be played, a good amount of the rogue decks or what might be considered tier 1.5/2 at a tournament could be played in this format just a a much slower pace and still do well, Which is what I see happening seeing as both T-Tar and Infernape took wins so far.

Suicide hit the nail on the head guys! Good thing I incorporated pretty much everything he just said in my deck already. :p

General strategy here is to use Crobat G's to place damage counters on cheap threats/pre-evolved guys, and to swoop in and take the kills with Honchkrow G's Target Attack!

It's a very straightforward deck, but it does have some threats that need to be addressed:

-Since I don't believe that Manectric PL is made an exception on this list, be prepared to see at least one of these decks! In case you do, do whatever you can to take out Electrikes immediately! In case a Manectric hits the board, remember that you cannot hit the bench while it's in play with damage - you'll only be able to break through with Crobat G's Poke-Power.

If they begin to attack with Manectric, then use your pluspowers and Crobats to the best of your ability to score two-hit knockouts. Since the cost of a OHKO is too high (approximately five flash bites and/or pluspowers!), only try to one-hit them if you absolutely must.

Sometimes, you can finish the job on a retreated Manectric with triple crobat, so use your SSU's and Poketurns sparingly.

-Tyranitar SF will also be popular in this metagame due to its $1.50 cost. Although you'll generally want to go after Larvitars charged with energy, Electrikes/Snovers/Nidorans or any pre-evolved techs are your first priority. Manectric's threat to your deck has already been explained; Abomasnow's body makes your life miserable; and Nidoqueen could spell "GG" vs any evolved Pokemon, so snipe carefully!

Otherwise, this should be a very easy matchup.

Also, one obvious thing I just want to remind my player of is just being sure to remember the HQ/Skuntank G combo:

-Skuntank can poison the active for further pluspower-ish effect.
-Skuntank can poison the active while you're sniping some easy pickinz on the bench. By the next turn, you'll have at least one counter on whatever is/was active due to Poison Structrure, so you've just setup another Target Attack...Target.
-When attacking the active Pokemon, if Nidoqueen is in play, then remember that it might be beneficial to use Poison Structure in order to negate Nidoqueen's body. That way, your attacks don't get deflected so easily, and you stay in the game.

Best of luck to my player. I have faith that I'm supplying him/her a deceptively simple list with a lot of options, and a lot of ways to show off his or her skills.

I've noticed my list comes 2 cards short on getting 60 is I've added 2 Basic Grass Energy to fill the 2 empty slots. (And to not exceed the budget)

Pokemon
----------
3 Beautifly PL (3.00)
3 Silcoon PL (1.50)
4 Wurmple PL (1.00)
1 Treecko GE (0,25)
1 Grovyle SF (0,50)
1 Sceptile GE (3.50)
4 Unown R LA (2,00)

Total: 18 Price: 11,75

---------
Trainers

1 Luxury Ball (0,50)
4 Great Ball (2,00)
4 Underground Expedition (2,00)
4 Volkner's Philosophy (4,00)
4 Pokeball (0,80)
4 Pokemon Rescue (1,00)
4 Potion (0,80)
2 Double Full Heal (1,00)
2 Warp Point (1,00)

Total: 29 Price: 13,10
+ 11,50
= 24,85

-------
Energy
-------
15 Basic Grass Energy (Free)

Beautifly PL is a decent card that's usually hindered a lot by Unown G, which is expensive so it shouldn't be to much of a threat.

It's got free retreat, an attack that can deal 60 for 1 Energy and a Stage 1 that let's itself Evolve for free. In combination with Sceptile GE if you can get it out, it can deal 60 + 3 Special Conditions for only 2 Energy!

Sorry, I didn't get the post before running the event. Had I been able to catch the post earlier I would have predicted a win by Waynegg (my opinion only of course since I am also kinda partial to Octillery, but at least I would have been close! The interesting part is that I thought Nnann's deck would come second. Ha Ha.) However I'll let the results speak for themselves.

Just to show that we did the best for the decks, we had a special day all worked out. It ended up we had over 32 people show up! Obviously there was no way we could just pick and choose one player over another in a random fashion and make it fair for everyone, so we had a pre-event. All the players battled it out, with the real prize of being in the top 8, and becoming a part of the cheap deck history. Not to say that some of the other players weren't worthy of playing in the event, but today's top players were involved. Here are the results:

8th place: Nnaann with Groudon
7th place: prodigal_fanboy with Butterfree/Cherim
6th place: soxrcol with Houndoom + friends
5th place: Prodigiosus with Scizor/Cherrim
4th place: infinityfangx with Abomasnow/Blissey
3rd place: Kindafighting with Infernape + friends

Drumroll please .....

2nd place: Waynegg with Octillery + friends
1st place: CharizardBoy with SP's (Turtwig GL/Aerodactyl GL/Weavile)

Great event with a few donks. This was a great idea that was well received by the players. I gave out prizes here for all 8 players who were involved with the cheap deck contest, as a thank you for their help. I'm sure we'll want to get a chance to do this again. Good luck to everyone involved in the top cut. WWNN can reveal the deck contents of the top 2 decks here in pod 3. Thanks again for letting us get involved.

Yep, saved the best for last (in my opinion).

yay 6th is better then last :p

awesome Idea WWNN, thanks for helping PA :)
t'was fun making that deck.

I'll definitely need to see my deck again because i forgot what all i put in it, lol!

thanks WWNN and P_A!

4 Call Energy $4
2 Special Dark $2
4 Basic Dark
9 Water
10 Psychic

$24.75 total :)

Strategy:
Octillery is your main hitter, and with the amount of energy in the deck it is easy to do alot of damage quickly. Couple with BTS and it is a sure 1st trainer turn KO. You don't have to flip good, because you should turn 3 to 5 energy each time you Water Vein. Don't bother attaching energy unless you are going to need to retreat because the second attack stinks!
Drifblim will get you set up with benched pokemon. It isn't the best in the game, but in this format it should work nicely
Sableye does what we all know it does- sorry i couldn't fit the special darks in here, but... since we don't have Roseanne, pull the Bebe!
Cynthia's Feelings is to get the energy back into your deck on a turn when, preferably, all you have is Cynthia and energy in your hand.
Be very mindful of attaching any energy to any pokemon as you really need them to stay in the deck. There are some situations where you will need to, but just try to keep it to a minimum and this deck can roll over any deck you face!

I'm thrilled to find out that I won the competitive Pod Four, but why post just my information when you could've waited to post everyone's?

I too am eager to find out who got second so that I can plan accordingly!

So, are you going to give us a few days to look at the finalists, and maybe tweak our decks accordingly?

Also, how are you going to set up the Top Cut. I'd personally like to see what kind of Single Elim T8 or whatever up front so we can prepare for that.

Next Contest

There was overwhelming interest in this contest. We filled all 32 available spots in 3 days! If you were unfortunate and missed making a submission for this contest, fear not we do plan to do this again (pending gym approval of course). If you want to make sure you don’t miss your next opportunity PM me now with “I Want In” in your PM subject. I will compile a “PMing” list for the next contest announcement. (If you participated in this contest you’re already on the list). Remember that no one is in until your list is submitted and reviewed. Do not send me a list until the next contest is announced.

If you are a League Leader interested in hosting a pod, PM me with “I’ll host” in the PM subject. The number of hosts will have a direct bearing on the number contestants we can handle. If your league leader happens to miss this post let them know about it. If we can get our act together we may shoot for the BR to City’s lull. If not then we will try for the City’s to State’s lull. The very nature of IRL play requires an enormous amount of coordination and results in rather long contest. I appreciate everyone’s patience and continued interest.
