Attention all professors! Go to the professor forums and check out the format for the professor cup! This is going to be EPIC!! I'm not sure about giving the details on here so I'm playing it safe : )

wow. it's really disappointing to find out that i won't be able to play in the 1 event i love and am able to attend this year. it's ridiculous requiring players to have a certain amount of "points" to play in nationals. for the amount of money it costs to travel to lovely INDIANA, get a room for 4-5 nights, get cards for a deck to play in the tournament, food, etc, P!P should give anyone who shows up at Nationals 500+ points.

People who are complaining about the 10 Play! Point requirements don't seem to understand why this was likely instituted. There are two reasons, most likely:

1) Players showing up at Nats, getting Top 4 or Top 8, then playing Worlds without having played the rest of the year (ie Tom Dolezal) have been a small problem lately. P!P's ultimate goal is to get people to show up at events, and reward players who play all year and do consistently well with a Worlds invite. Players who haven't shown that dedication throughout the year aren't really wanted there. P!P wants to raise attendance, so this move makes sense.

2) Last year at US Nationals, we have a major problem getting round 1 going in a timely fashion due to massive amounts of players not showing up to the first round. Most likely, a lot of parents or other such folks signed up for the tourney to get all the free swag, but had no intention of playing at all. This cause a huge problem for the tournament organizers, and the Play! Point requirement fixes this problem. This is, by far, the BEST and BIGGEST reason for the point requirements.

And, really, it's not hard at ALL to get 10 points if you ever play Pokemon at all. Just show up to league once a league season, go to 1 or 2 BRs or Cities, and TA-DA! you have enough points. It's not even vaguely difficult, and requires very little time at all.

It's slightly difficult if you are on a long deployment and when not on deployment go on random underways or have duty. It's also difficult when you are stationed in hawaii and can only go to one premier event at a time saying I can't just drive to another state or participate in other tournaments. I'm sure that post was not targeted at me but I'm sure life may have got in the way of other people. Their could be new parents or people dealing with personal tragedies and the such.... Sorry for the long rant :(

Understandable, but you are in the overwhelming minority. There are few people playing in your situation, and while it's sad this particular change hurts you, it is overall better for the game as a whole.

Aren't they giving playpoints if you go to league? I thought I remembered reading that a while back.

Yep, one per league season, up to 8 per year.

Then no one has a reason to complain that they didn't have enough points. If they start with zero points right now, then they should have no problem getting 10 measley little points.

While I understand the reason for it, the requirement of Play Points is a little disappointing. I think TCPi underestimates how many players actually play Nationals as their 1-2 events per year, as that is where the most fun happens. My brothers don't play much anymore, and since no tournaments/leagues are within 2 hours of my house, it makes it very difficult to attend tournaments. Nationals was always a blast for them to play in, and they always did semi-decently too, as they are good players just don't have the opportunity to play as much. I believe the number of these types of players (young and old) is more significant than we might think, and are in fact not in a minority.

It will be interesting to see how much attendance decreases this year.
