Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2012 US Nationals Information Posted!

1) Players showing up at Nats, getting Top 4 or Top 8, then playing Worlds without having played the rest of the year (ie Tom Dolezal) have been a small problem lately.

Just out of curiosity, has there even been any recent player that's won an invite from Nationals without having played the rest of the season? Tom seems to be the only name that comes to the top of my head.

So for future reference, can we go there w/o any play points and just stay there? As in not play? And can we do league and stuff?

Oh, boy, it's in Indianapolis this year? That's only an hour away. I've recently been thinking of coming back to the game, and this might just seal the deal. I have absolutely nothing left over since I sold it off to pay for school (Stopped a bit after SF came out), but this is just downright tempting and seems like a "sign". I have been thinking hard about it as of late. So tempting.

Am I allowed to go and watch if I'm not playing? I've only been to PRs/Cities/States but not a Nats. Multiples of each though. I don't recall "Play Points" from when I was playing, so I assume I don't have enough of those to just show up with a deck for the lulz and nostalgia. Even if they did exist then, I'd imagine they don't carry over.

Good to see the game is still going strong! Also good to see that Kyle (renfield89) and Alex still seem to be playing! The community for this game was always absolutely outstanding.

Might participate, If I can get my Triple-V deck all ready.
How do you find out how many Play! Points you have, and how do they work?

check your profile on pokemon.com and it will show your play points earned. If you just played in a S/P/T that event may not be up just yet in the profile, but it will soon

I can say without a dought My buddy Lumaga1 is manning a 2 day road trip there with me as the co pilot and deckmaster along for teh ride. Well all be tehre at nats 2012 in indy. Cant wiat for teh festivities to begin

Was the requirement for 10 play points implemented because of the sheer numbers of people? I've been out of the game for so long, and was possibly hoping to play this summer.

It was likely due to the almost 200 parents that signed up for the free T-shirt, but never showed up for the first round the next day, wasting almost 2 hours while the Staff dropped them from the tournament.

where are you getting your numbers from?

the number of no shows the staff was told of was more like 50...

Coming from a person with 60 Play Points, it is not hard to get 10 before nationals. Battle Roads and Regionals alone with a league or two would get you enough.

Pokemon US Nats has been an 'open' tournament in the past. Other card games have invite-only, closed national championships. Play points are a middle ground between invite-only and open.

It's slightly difficult if you are on a long deployment and when not on deployment go on random underways or have duty. It's also difficult when you are stationed in hawaii and can only go to one premier event at a time saying I can't just drive to another state or participate in other tournaments.

Definitely feeling for you on this one, man. Maybe there could be an active duty military exemption?

AFAIK, the points requirement is just for the main event. Side events, trading, dumping cards on Troll & Toad - all that still is OK!

Well, you could get to play at leagues & local tourneys this summer.

As to why, I give my impression:
  1. Reward people who participate all year long (primary reason).
  2. Redirect Timmy & Janey to side events and other activities so they don't end up in Nats as their first competition (secondary reason).

I'm not sure if cutting off the 'register/no-show, thanks I just wanted the free stuff' people even enters into it, as there were other easy ways of cutting that off that were discussed. For example, passing out a ticket instead of your promo card in Round 2; you would then have until the hall closed that day to collect your shirt & swag from the 'player swag booth' by turning in your ticket.

Does anyone know when VGC information will be announced? It's ridiculous that TCG was announced over a month ago and we still don't know a thing about VGC.
