New York... well, I wouldn't mind (and I'm sure New York isn't more expensive than Hawaii), but what's better in New York than in, let's say, Orlando?
Answer-- No Hurricanes. 'nuff said

i'm pretty sure hawaii was set as the location for worlds 2012 well BEFORE the earthquake/tsunami hit japan earlier this year...Well, 2010 there were very few players at Worlds, compared to other years. But I think they stuck with Hawaii for next year because of the Japanese players. They didn't get Worlds qualifiers this year because of the earthquake, so TPCi gave them their "favorite location" next year as kind of compensation (that's just what I think why it's in Hawaii again despite all complaints of players and low player numbers). Under other circumstances I couldn't understand why they hold it in Hawaii again, but this is a legit reason imo.
Alaska would be great, if only because of the Parka-clad Pika-plushies.
No dude all of NY is extremely taxed, not just the city. I live here in NY so I know. Its extremely expensive to live here. New York State itself is a huge contradiction.
Contradiction #1 - You have 80% of the wealth in NYC area alone. The rest of the 'upstate' is extremely poor and lacking of things to do, very boring.
Contradiction #2 - Upstate residents pay 100% property taxes on thier homes and pay insurance for cars since driving is a must in Upstate NY, very poor public transportation system. NYC great transportation system so no need to pay for cars or insurance. NYC - Not enough land for personal homes so people pay out their butts for Renting.
So although it would be cheaper to fly to Worlds if it were in NY, you are paying more for hotels and meals. And for the Japanese players isnt Tokyo an exact copy of NYC?
best and most radical solution:
cancel worlds for 1 year
make worlds in europe next year with the money saved from canceling worlds
was talking in the context of side of country smart ***
Worlds in New York is actually a good idea aside of the high costs, It's easy to acces.
Not really that big of an issue for Europe players P)
What about Amsterdam? Big airport, lots of international trains, nice to visit.
The only problems are that the weather sucks. And some of the places arent really that good for childeren...
This wouldn't happen, there aren't too many good players in NY.

As for Worlds ever leaving the USA, that is never going to happen! The USA is what keeps this TCG alive and running--we have the most players. So, just imagine the uproar from the largest part of the Pokemon community if that were to happen.
Come on, that isn't really a fair comparison, now is it. At least compare the same level of player commitment.Maybe compare nationals attendances to show how many committed players there are?
2011: 1472 USA nationals
2011: 1559 EU nationals.
Seems like there is a case for Europe matching the USA.
Welcome to sunny Helsinki - Finland. While in San Diego they had 70 degrees, Helsinki had 80 degrees and sunny weather. To me, Hawaii is from another side of the world, with 30h flights i can get there, and I've been there twice. Now it's your time to fly a bit longer and come to my beautiful city.
We have quite a cheap convention center and a nice hotel at the shore, just like in San Diego.
Oh, and we have never got an earthquake, tsunami, volcanic activity or hurricanes.
What's the problem with Worlds in Europe? Is it really more expensive than Hawaii for you? I highly doubt. As for Worlds ever leaving the USA, that is never going to happen!
