What's dumb is not considering Ice Punch as not being an actual punch(which is PHYSICAL).

It only worked because we didn't have the technology to make the attacks that unique.

Yeah but what about rock slide. Its techically a special attack since rocks dont come out of no where but then again it could be a physical attack if there are imaginary rocks from a tyranitars attack or any other rock pokemon. So bottom line is long range attacks are special attacks (techically) and anything short range or direct hit to someone is a psysical attack.

I say...

Finally! Before, nothing made that much sense to me, but Gardevoir88 Brings up a good point, but I am curious about Sonic Boom and other sound based attacks. Sound is a wave, like energy, but it hits the opponent psysically, so I would be confused on that subject

*WARNING* I am not a physics Major *WARNING*

Sound is a wave (specifically, the effect of the sound wave travelling through the air). A wave hitting something like Sonic Boom does would exert a certain amount of force upon that something, hence why it does damage, although it somehow doing fixed damage to everything makes no sense, as the ability to react to that force varies greatly between what you're hitting (I'm a Physics minor).

As charking said, it doesn't work. It's a flawed system currently, and fixing that system is a Good Thing(tm).

they did have the technology, they simply defined things differently previously. now theyre fixing it to what it logically should be.

While I haven't looked through the code in Pokémon, it's just as easy as setting a variable in the attack function of "use_attack" or "use_special_attack", and have "element" be a seperate variable in the attack func. Very simple to do, just have an attack inheritable, then each attack be its own seperate file/function/whateveryouwant that draws on it. The way it is now, I imagine the type/stat thing is set in a global definition. if(IS_ATTACK_ELEMENT) use_attack_stat(), etc.

Did you just trademark a sentence?

didn't wal-mart or something already copyright that a looong time ago?

It's a good thing I got to it a good while before they did, then. My copyright record reads 1862.

Sonic Boom doesn't matter since it always does 20 damage.

Well I KNOW THAT!!!! Did you see the other part about other sound based attacks? Sonic boom was the only one I could remember off the top of my head...
