Dems take the house fairly convincingly. Senate is still very close; it looks like Tenn just went to the Republicans, Missou to the Dems. Both the Independants are fairly certain to be votes for liberal causes. Virginia looks very close; leaning to the Dems, but there will probably be a recount. Montana is so far in favor of the Dems, but too few votes have been counted for anything definitive. Republicans need either Montana or Virginia to go their way to maintain control. Regardless, even if one party has a 1-vote lead, it wouldn't be very difficult to get a sentor to swing one way other the other depending on the issue. As a result, we'll probably be seeing some very interesting votes in the next two years. Stay tuned.

This is a good thing! "Government is best which governs least."

Maybe.

I just despise the 2-party system. The last thing we need is a bunch of beurocrats in Washington never coming to an agreement on anything.

Quoting yourself solely for emphasis like you just did, especially when you're wrong, is generally regarded as automatic failure.

America needs something to match our NDP, and even our Bloc. It makes government a lot better when it's not a two-party system.

... You don't understand how the 'Gym works. Moss Factor starts a thread. This means that when Marril replies, it's already gone to hell.

On topic, here's hoping Democrats get those seats, I guess.

Technically they already are. Lieberman is probably going back to the democrats. The guy from Vermont is probably going to do the same. 51-49

"Government is best which governs least."

I always understood that quote to mean that government should do no more than is necessary and not that government should do nothing.

With the houses against the president the USA enters a period of do nothing government. :( depending upon your point of view even that may be an improvement upon the single issue politics which has infected many democracies for the past several decades.

I sincerely hope that the USA doesn't become completely introspective and self obsessed whilst the middle east burns.

If you'll read my initial post, I was counting Lieberman and Sanders towards the "democrats" control. So far it doesn't look like AP has called Montana or Virginia, however both are leaning towards the Dems. Joe Lieberman, although an independant, is really a true-blue Democrat and will vote straight with them. Bernie Sanders is a self-proclaimed Socialist, and will vote like the Socialist Democrats as well.

I think you're stretching by calling Lieberman a liberal. He's definitely on the more right to moderate side of the democratic party.

The democrats are gonna win the senate!! Yea!! They'll stop the Bush in his tracks.

*Bush Administration uses Republican Influence on House of Representatives.*

It's not very effective...

From the Ohio perspective, Democrats won out because our Governor, Taft, is a dufus. Even some of my Republican friends voted Democrat to wash out his influence.
It also doesn't hurt that all of our jobs are being outsourced (Hoover, Rubbermaid, Steel Industry, etc.) and we're hoping that this "change" can do something about that.

Oh, and we voted a public smoking ban in Ohio now! ^_^! yay!

You're lucky because you have a leader that actually answers the questions during question time.

We should have one of those here. Just stick Bush in front of the congress democrats and see how long he lasts without his speechwriter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Bush have a presidential veto? If thats right, and the republicans realy want to change somthing does this result has little meaning?

TBH I'm not a fan of either party, I guess I would lean Democrat if I was American but I think I would be disilusioned with the 2 party system and no real alternatives.

The extent to which he answers is debatable though:tongue: Gotta love PMQ's though - its more about the theatre and the rehtoric but its truly compeling wathing.

Hmm, funny of how (some of) the Founding Fathers hated and looked down on political parties, and now that is almost all you hear about in the news.

He does, but the Democrats now have that kind of power over any piece of legislation that HE tries to get through. Basically, this means that Bush's plans have been gummed up for the rest of his term.

Oh, I just learned that Rumsfeld resigned from the Pentagon. Fallout from the elections? This basically means that Bush no longer controls the Pentagon, cuz there's no way the GOP can get a person through the House and the Senate in 2 months. It'll take at least 1.5 months to get through the House, then it's gotta get sent to the Senate
