European Hawaii Trips through rankings

Anna: I know it is OK to post results on the last day possible and to even concede matches to others. I dont like it either, but both of those options are available this season. Hopefully, some of these issues (BRs after Nats) will be changed next year.

Everyone is taking shots at Marstio, and he has earned that (I tossed some myself), but, I will defend the option of uploading results within the time frames given to PTOs/TOs/LDs from PUI/OP. I agree, it sucks not knowing exactly where you are after each weekend if a tourney here or there has not been reported yet.

hmm seems a little like the slow play discussions that break out every now and then. Just because the rules allow a certain maximum time does not mean that it is acceptable to use up all that time. The time limit is not provided to allow us to hide/delay results.

Most countries have a small 'advantage' with BRs after nationals. The NL doesn't have this 'advantage' but does get to see the ratings of the other countries before hand: a different sort of 'advantage'. So having had your advantage with BRs after nationals you then try to deny the last country its advantage. It just doesn't seem right. Seems like we have little respect for anyone but ourselves nowadays :( "Whats in it for me" Is that to be our mantra?

I'm not stalling if I take 10 seconds for a game action!

I'm allowed to shuffle for 20 seconds!

SoTG for the loss every time it seems *grr*

The time limits are not there to facilitate manipulation. They are there to provide a reasonable time frame to complete the task of uploading a tournament given all the other real life stuff that the organiser has to do. To deliberately withold a tournament to gain an advantage is wrong. JMHO.

Ian: I agree, results should be uploaded as soon as practical. I dont know the time frames given to Euro TOs, all I know is what "we" USA PTOs were told (which I dont think I can disclose here). Bottom line, we have a cut off date to turn in the results. I plan on hitting mine :)

Is it the people with the HIGHEST rankings that get invites? Seems a little unfair to bad players.

How about we discuss the round times of tournaments somewhere else, and keep this about the European trips to Worlds? ;)

no, it's unfair toward the good players living in country with honest TO and real opponents.

some average players got highest ranking due to not REAL competition ;)

Are these all basically decided now? I really don't get the whole ratings thing tbh, can you get rating points any other way?

yep its pretty much decided for most of Europe. marstio is keeping a tournament secret and the NL nationals has yet to take place.

Scandanavia sweeps the Seniors division.

The Juniors should have 2 or 3 non-scandanavian representatives.

Masters should have 1 or 2 non-scandanavian representative.

come on marstio upload that missing tournament. There is nothing to hide is there? All you are doing is further damaging your players reputations with the secrecy.

I noticed that, my ranking suddenly went up 3 points, and Arco's went up 1 points, LOL.

What went wrong in Ekeren?

Actually, I think the Masters group is far from decided. There are a few Denmark BR left that could have a big impact for the 2 Danish players. There are 2 French BR left that could make Laetitia rise a lot of points if she plays in them. And there's the Dutch Nationals where Arco and me will play in. And to top things off, there's the Finland BR that has not been uploaded, so we don't know if Esa will go up and if so, how much.

So looks like this weekend will be the big finale for the Masters =)

Of course Esa will go up. This is Finland we are talking about LOL. (Okay thats my cheap shot for the day)

Esa went X-0, I would expect that the X is 4 or more. So at least +20 for Esa.

Ah right ok.

With the delays in uploading, this couldn't actually affect final standings could it? Just knowing about them at the moment as in, the ratings will correct themselves? Sorry for all these seemingly stupid questions, but I've never payed much attention to rankings but now they're meaningful I'd like to know how it works.

Any confirmation of whether they're being used next year for invites or not? I started too late this year, but a couple years ago I was around the 2000 mark and have improved a lot since then so you never know.. =D

Ian, how do you know Esa went X-0 (that would probably not be more than 6-0)? Obv I expected that, but still :p

I updated the first post to reflect the latest standings. Funnily enough, nearly all top Senior players changed rankings with only a few tenths or hundredths of points. A Senior Danish player just moved up 5 spots with all the Danish BRs. As it looks now, Scandinavia will sweep the Seniors.

In Masters, the Danish players are obv shooting up. Wonder if they'll continue to play? They should do, because with those rankings, they're not safe yet. 3 BRs for them still to go, I think (including today's)

I don't know for certain but the information was in a post in this thread that was edited shortly afterwards to remove the 'oh so dangerous' shock horror result that Esa won. X-0 is something to be proud of. Actually I won't be surprised if Esa went 7-0. 5 rounds plus a top 4, gaining +40. Big tournaments in Finland.

As far as I can remember, Denmark had 3 BR today and 1 on saturday, and that's it
