Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Fan Fiction contest - Completed

So if everything continues on this path, we're going to have 13 rounds?

There will be approximately 11 normal rounds, and the winner of the last round will win the tournament. There are also going to be a few bonus rounds.

I might need an extra day or so because IIRC that date is very close to when I have a midterm. I'll try my best to get it done before the due date, but college has to come first.

Does anyone have a problem with extending the deadline by one day (for everyone, not just DarthPika)? If no one posts anything negative about this by Wednesday, the deadline will be moved to March 11th.
I don't really care whether there's an extra day or not, and I don't see why it would be a big deal for anyone else. But, if anyone objects, then I'm sticking with the original deadline.

(If anyone wants me to keep the March 10th deadline, but doesn't want to be seen as a jerk or anything like that, feel free to PM me instead. I won't reveal who it was.)

so are the sign up's closed?

Yes. I've edited the original post now, thanks.

I've updated Post #18 with the new deadline.

Also, there's something I remembered to add. If for whatever reason you can't access the 'Gym during an entire round, or don't have time to write, or whatever, the first round that you don't send in a fic, you just won't be able to win or lose.

This is only once, though. There will be absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

Anyone have questions about this?

So just to clarify points DON'T carry over round to round, right? Like if I am ranked 5th or 6th this round I have just as much chance to be 1st or 13th in the next round (or in the finals!) as anyone else?

That's correct, except that total points is going to be the first tiebreaker.

Ah, okay. I have another question by the way, the theme of each round, does it have to be central or just used in passing? I used the numbe 151 in passing but red and blue is a pretty central theme of mine so just wondering if I should bulk up the 151 aspect.

Also, lawl, submitting this after I sleep (so I can proofread it) and I have no clue how it will do lawl. Hopefully you guys like my [sarcastic] style. >_>

I'm still waiting for something other than a prequel chapter to my regular fanfic to pop into my brain. I'll probably just start writing whatever I can think of tomorrow night...

It doesn't have to be a central theme this round. I will specify when it does.

OH SNAP, when do we get to see the entries? I'm assuming there's a [currently] hidden forum with the stories in it that will become open later today?

Nah, I don't get to use the hidden forum for this. I'll post a separate thread for entries later, most likely tomorrow. Sorry for the wait, but I was HJing a State Championship yesterday, and helping out at league today. Probably I'd just do something incredibly stupid if I tried to post it now, like only post half the entries and delete all the e-mails.:lol:

Does tomorrow mean today (the 15th) or the 16th? Only asking because you posted that as 12:11 AM of today.=P

I meant today, Mr. Pedantic.

The thread is up now.

All participants in the contest need to PM me with their votes for both best and worst entry. Anyone can vote, though, even if you just saw the thread now and have nothing better to do.

Rules for voting:

You must have a reason for your vote. (It also, obviously, needs to be a good reason, not just "I don't like this guy's grammar" or "Pikachu sucks, only noobs write about Pikachu" or "You included Bill, he's my favoritest character!") If you honestly can't read someone's fic, that's an acceptable reason, but don't vote them for worst because of a few mistakes. Also, just because you like/dislike a specific character, doesn't make the story good/bad.

You must vote for BOTH best AND worst entry. Otherwise it doesn't work.

Send your votes in a PM to me, with reasons for both. The subject should include your screen name and the round number. (example: Contest votes, round 1, Lucario EX)

Deadline is 12:00 am March 25. No one can vote until March 17th, though. (there is a reason for this, but I can't say what it is yet)

If your computer breaks, there's a massive power outage, you're really lazy, etc, lucky you. Everyone gets one pass on voting, just like writing. So, you can not get around to it for any reason, once, and get off scot-free, After that, though, anyone still competing who doesn't vote will get one point subtracted from their score, for that round only.

At the end of the round, I'll send a PM to anyone who asks for one with their score and the reasons given for those votes. So, by explaining in detail what you thought was good or bad about a fanfic, you'll be helping the author improve.

Some examples of good reasons:

The characterization was very accurate/inaccurate.
The idea was interesting and creative/dull and unimaginative.
The round requirement was used in a creative/overly easy way.

Sorry for the trouble, but I'm going to have to drop this due to college related stuff that keeps coming up. Maybe next time...

Aaand the winner is... Pikamaster!

I'll momentarily be adding the author's name to the title of each entry post.

Also, I really really hate that someone who actually bothered to write something gets eliminated, instead of someone who did absolutely nothing, but that's the rules. :frown:

In last place is CyberManetric EX. Sorry, Cyberman, you're out for now.

Although, that brings up something I've been meaning to mention. There will be 1-2 bonus rounds where the winner can re-enter the contest if they were eliminated in a previous round. Anyone who doesn't want to keep checking the thread for this can ask me to PM them when one starts.:thumb:

Ah, oh well. Sad part is I figured out 3 ways to make my entry better a week after I subbitted it. It was fun while it lasted.
~Cyber~

^_^

Well that was fun, can't wait for the next round.

Also, to the person who mentioned the Eyebrow in their post. It's an eyebrow because that's what it is in the movie. For all of you who didn't notice, my entry was Mew's POV in the beginning of "The Origin of Mewtwo", seen Here. I tried to keep it as accurate as possible without just describing only what happened in the movie. Glad that you guys liked it.

EDIT. If I may ask, how many votes for the best story were there total? Including mine.
