Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Fan Fiction contest - Completed

Round Two info:

Deadline: April 10th, 12:00 AM
Word limits: 500-4000 words.
Round requirement: Your title must be "At the top of the mountain"
(Also, this should be a no-brainer: the actual story ought to relate to the title in some way)

You are also required to include at least one of the following characters/Pokemon:

Maxie of Team Magma
Remoraid
Molly Hale

Also, Pikamaster, since you won the previous round, you have immunity this round. So, even if you lose this round (and only this round, unless you win again), you won't be eliminated. If that happens, last place will not pass to the next lowest score, instead no one will be eliminated that round.

Remember, if you didn't write anything last round, you're required to this round. Otherwise, you're getting DQed. (If you think you had a really good excuse, PM me for a possible extension)

^Thank you so much for messing up what I was going to do this round, now I'm going to have to do what I had planned for round 3.

Btw, can my entry look like: "Thank you all, see you next round." and just do that until I hit 500 words?

Well, technically, yes, you can. But you won't get any useful comments on that to improve your writing, and you'll be giving up your chance to win immunity for next round.

And, of course, it's really, really cheap. But if you want to, I can't/won't stop you.

Ah, but you have 'artistic license'. You can change that and mention an actual bone.

I could, but if I'm going to do a different POV on something, I like keeping the characters and details true to what they are in the original. (I thought that you were the one who wrote that.)

Requesting that the max amount of words be changed to 4,500. I know that 4,000 words is about 10 pages in Microsoft Office word, I know that some people may not want to read that much. But when you're really telling a story, especially creating a setting and believable characters, it tends to be a little on the long side.

I will take this into consideration for next round. The word limit will not change this round.

Ok, I'll be sending my entry later today, I just got to type all of it up.

EDIT. Sending it in now.

EDIT.

A Pikachu holding a pair of twin Lightsabres comes onto this page, he looks confused. This is Pikamaster, one of the members of Pokegym. Going up to an especially powerful looking Lucario, he asks her something.

"The date is April eleventh, but the deadline was April tenth, what's going on? Where are all the stories that I get to read and vote on?"

Staying silent, the Lucario just ignores Pikamaster; his puny problem is no where near as important as the life that she doesn't have. (Jk) Annoyed at this, the newly turned Jedi Pikachu slashes at the Lucario with his Lightsabres, but his target used Protect and avoided the attack.

Now extremely annoyed, but knowing that he can't do anything, Pikamaster retreats into a corner and starts to polish the handles of his Lightsabres, growling menacingly at the root of his problem.

Now extremely annoyed, but knowing that he can't do anything, Pikamaster retreats into a corner and starts to polish the handles of his Lightsabres, growling menacingly at the root of his problem.

"Foolish young Padawan." the Lucario finally answers. "You must be more patient than that. Go and vote. The competition is formidable this time."

After taking a moment to glare at the Pikachu, the Lucario leaps away, to return on Wednesday, April 28th, the deadline for Round 2 voting.

All rules from last round still apply, found in post 36. Remember, if you don't vote this round, and also didn't vote last round, 1 point will be subtracted from your score.

Pikamaster is now alone on the page, waiting for the deadline for voting to be up. Glancing at the calender, he is overjoyed to see that the next day is Wednesday, but his joy quickly turns to depression when he sees that the deadline is the 28th and not the 21st.

"Why? Why did you give so much time for voting? I didn't bring enough food and water in here for another week of waiting, I'll die if I have to wait that long!"

Unsurprisingly, he gets no immediate response. Trying to turn on his lightsabres to cut a hole to escape, he finds that he is unable to, and LucarioEX's words echoed...

"Foolish young Padawan, you must be more patient than that."

Now confused and slightly alarmed, he tries again, only to be met with the same response.

"Foolish young Padawan, you must be more patient than that."

Now genuinely alarmed, Pikamaster starts knocking on buttons on the page that he's on, and he gets interesting results.

Hitting the words "Other Forums", the Pikachu is startled when a brand new page loads; he's so startled that he sits down on the words "Pokemon Fan Fiction". When a new page again loads, he starts to get an idea: what if he could find a page that had food and water? Quickly locating the address bar, he starts to walk up to it, and inadvertently steps on another link.

Finding himself on a page where every post is written by his new nemesis, LucarioEX, he quickly reads what each post says, he must know his enemy. After reading all of the posts, Pikamaster soon decides which is his least favorite. He wonders why the author even bothered to write a horrible story about an imaginary pink cat.

Focusing himself once again on his goal, the determined Pikachu finally climbs up to the address bar and commands it to take him to Google.com. Taking control of a moving arrow, he makes it Google the words "Food and Water". After the new page loaded, he jumped on the words "Image Results", Pikamaster found himself on a marvelous page that contained all the supplies he needed.

Diving towards a hamburger, he started to eat it, comforted by the fact that he would last the week until the deadline. He still wasn't content with the amount of time given, even taking in to account any tournaments that had been going on, but he would wait for his answer. Wait, and plot his revenge.

(Yes, this is how I'm going to make all of my posts in this thread from now on, something like this.)

^ Ah, dear Pikamaster. It is hard to be patient. Others are still recovering from a giant battle that is known as Regionals. Perhaps if LucarioEX hears from all contestants he will lift the April 28th deadline. Please hold no ill-will against ilikegengar as that writer's report has already been submitted on this matter. Enjoy your burger and try to relax.

The following participants have been disqualified for inactivity:

Kayle
bullados
dave321
Oestrogen
Cardkeeper
IronPika
pokemonrocks777
dittocopies

Now, the results. The winner of Round 2, with two points, minus one for not voting, is Steel_Winger.

ilikegengar, sorry, but you have lost this round.

As before, I'd like to point out that there will be a bonus round to win re-entry into the contest. If you want, I will PM you when it begins.

Round 3 info will be posted soon. The authors of each entry have been listed in the title of that entry's post.

Also, Steel_Winger, mind telling me how you thought of the names for the Pokemon in your story? Just curious.

Wait wait, Lucario EX actually is giving us a chance to get re-entered into the contest? Also ilikegengar your prediction was right on the money.
~Cyber~

Pikamaster walks back onto the page, ready and eager for the next round. However, he has something to say before that round comes.

"I apologize for submitting such an abomination that I called a story, but I only completed it the day of the deadline and couldn't tweak it to my satisfaction."

After looking around, he notices that he got a vote for the worst entry, but he isn't surprised, he would've voted for his own as worst entry if he could have.

"However," he started to say with a grin. "I wonder how many of you can name all the humans in the story and where they come from. Why don't you try to? I'd love to see your attempts."

Spying Lucario Ex, the oh-so-hated-person-who-has-made-him-wait, Pikamaster ran towards her, letting lose a war cry; his lightsabres were drawn and ready for use. And then a thought occurred to him, something that made him stop right where he was. If I kill this Pokemon, will the contest continue? Probably not...

And so, with a large sigh, Pikamaster sat down to await the next round.

I... won? Impossible!

Well, since Lucario EX is curious about the names of the Pokemon involved, I suppose I should oblige him/her.

Jet the Remoraid: Well, we know Remoraid are known for being accurate beam shooters. They start out with jets of water (Water Gun), and that's where the name came from.

Gracia the Maintine: Mantine are graceful with their really long fins. Grace = Gracia.

Taz the Hariyama: Normally when you think about Taz, you think of the cartoon character. But at the time, it just seemed to be the name of a big, strong guy. In other words, pretty random, lol!

Roy the Salamence: Roy's a character from Fire Emblem V: Shadow Dragon. Yeah, that guy next to Marth in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Sophia the Ninetales: Sophia seemed like another graceful name for another graceful Pokemon. Don't most people named Sophia tend to be pretty females? It's a pattern I've seen. Results may vary among others.

Zephyr the Crobat: Crobat is one of the fastest Pokemon in the game. Four wings makes him a very agile battler in the air. So, Zephyr due to his aerial prowess.

Raine the Clefable: Clefable came from the moon, right? Or so they say. If they did, I'd like to think they came from a rain of meteors. Rain = Raine.

The prompt was "At the Top of the Mountain," but I wanted to get the sense of conquering the figurative mountains in one's mind. I also wonder if anyone noticed that all of the girl's Pokemon were caught in caves and mountains and similar places.

And there's your explanation. Wonder what next round is going to be like?

That was fun, and I managed to get my story written several days early instead of literally sending it in at the last minute this time, although that was partially because I was mistaken about the deadline. It's somewhat disappointing that almost nobody actually wrote anything, though. We've got, what, three people left now? That means there are only two rounds left, and I'll likely lose next round. I may keep writing for the prompts anyway, just because it's actually pretty fun.

That's what I thought!
I had expected that you got Sophia from FE as well, though.

I'm glad you're having a good time. I had kind of expected that at least half of those people wouldn't write a thing, and I've planned some ways to make the contest last longer.

I'd like to know what everyone thinks the voting time should be, BTW.

EDIT:
Round 3 info:

Deadline: May 15th, 12:00 AM
Word limits: Exactly 100 words.
Round requirement: None other than the word limit.

Steel_Winger, since you won the previous round, you have immunity this round. So, even if you lose this round (and only this round, unless you win again), you won't be eliminated. If that happens, last place will not pass to the next lowest score, instead no one will be eliminated that round.

Pikamaster walks onto the page again, finding that the round requirements are up! Taking a careful look this time so he doesn't mis-read them again, he almost is sick.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT IT'S ONLY 100 WORDS!? I HAD SOMETHING ELSE THAT I WANTED TO DO!"

Screaming in frustration, Pikamaster wonders how long the entry he had planned to submit for round two is going to wait. He also wonders what he's going to do in 100 words, that's about the size of his chapter one for The Legend of Thunder and not really time enough to do anything.

"I loathe you, Lucario EX. You're forcing unreasonable round requirements on us JUST because I asked for an extension of the words last round, aren't you."

Not waiting for an answer, he starts banging his head against his lightsabres, waiting for unconsciousness to claim him.
