Final Fantasy

hmmm...Am I the only person who has enjoyed played FF Crystal Chronicales (I know I spelt it wrong). This was a great multiplayer experience if you have friends with GBAs and they want to help you kick some butt. My friend and I have had some memorable video gaming memories playing CC, but haven't finished the game yet because of conflicting work schedules. The only other games I have played are FFTA, which in my opinion is one of the best games Nintendo has ever had on a Game Boy system. Also, I have FF I & II: Dawn of Souls, but haven't finished it because my Pokemon keep calling to me in my sleep. I never was a fan of Final Fantasy until I actually forced myself to buy a few of the games and I have been hooked ever since. I still need to get IV Advance to keep my fix going after I find a way to beat my other games.

Hopefully Square Enix and Nintendo still have plans for CC to make a DS debut, that would be awesome.

I loved FFCC (Chronicles I guess... it doesnt seem right, but whatever) for a while.... the team work and multiplayer aspects really sold the game, but single player got old fast! (though at least 1 player wasnt forced to carry that stupid container thing). The fact that it took 2-3 players to cast more powerful spells with accurate timing, annoying, but ingenious. I cant tell you how many times I remember hearing/saying 1...2...3... NOW!!!

FFCC was a very fun game. If only I could get more people to play with me! -_-;; I only have 2 friends with GBAs, and one goes to college on the other side of the Ohio, so I've played FFCC only so far, and one player is boring.

So... why was Terra afraid of Cloud? Because Cloud Squall Zidane!

Yes, it's a lame joke, but kudos to anyone who gets it.

I didnt actually mean there storyline. I said they have similar Story lines such as.....The enemies both want world domination for example. Anyways....... I didnt mean that there comepletely alike. Im rly Sry if I confused anyone and made them think that, Thats not wat I meant. I started this whole thread to talk about Final Fantasy Cuz its an awesome Game!

i say ff10 sucked. regardless of story line or battle system, i hated it because it took away the giant world maps, which allowed for more exploration and created a sense of a larger world. instead, they made you move from point to point in a linear fashion. to me, rpgs should not be linear, they should be open-ended and allow the player to roam the world freely and explore every nook and cranny (many of which should harbor secrets and side quests). you know what we got for side quests in ff10?? lightning dodging, butterfly catching, and running down balloons on a chocobo. pretty lame, in my opinion.

Perfect linearization in a game does work, but not in a standard RPG. It's more suited to an SRPG than any other RPG type (see the Fire Emblem series, Bahamut Lagoon, etc).

My friend and I had the timing PERFECTED for using Blizzaga, Firaga, Thundaga. I would lead, then say "One One-Thousand" and we would watch what ever we were fighting burn, freeze, or start convulsing from the shock. Cura on the other hand was way more useful than Curaga in a big battle because you have to wait for Curaga to go off. Another fun aspect of the multiplayer is the bonus, it's always entertaining to see a person's reaction to the bonus they got, especially if it didn't fit in with their strategy (Like a person who specializes in magic getting "Avoid using magic"). The game is an absolute riot sometimes because of those bonuses and trying to get yours to be the highest, because there might be a chance of getting a rare artifact or scroll at the level's end. Just talking about it make me want to play FFCC right now.

donkey kong country was fun, and it was pretty linear. i just liked the way older final fantasies had the explorable world map with hidden areas and islands with special enemies. things like that inspire the player to explore and discover, which is one of the primary reasons i would play an rpg. the story lines are all pretty generic it seems, though. i mean, how many times can we really save the world from some epic evil involving the ruling class?? why don't they just make a communist revolution rpg and put magic and a romantic interest in there?? it'd be the same thing, just about.

dibs on rasputin!!!

Well, in FFT you're saving the world from the rule of a monarchy by instating a peasant king through a series of deceitful, bloody assassinations, so... same thing, really.

Yeah, those were great/horrible... I loved how everyone got a different map. One an over veiw, one a treasure locator, the other a monster locator... what was the frigging 4th, I forgot...

Also fun when you knew what your teammates goal (or ungoal) for the level was.... sneak in and open chest, grab money ect. before they could trying to ensure you get higher rank at end

And the way it used the job classes.. some where slightly helpful while others were extrememly helpfull

Everyone is intitled to their opinion dude, and FF7 really went off in a different direction... it brought in technology mixed with magic. Most people just want an epic compaign set in the past, which FF7 clearly was not. I for one really enjoyed it, and its my fave in the series, but I'll always remember the good old days of the original on NES......

Consider it this way. Up until FF6, the FF series was set in a medieval-style era, definitely in the past. FF6 itself was still recognizably in the past, but more of an industrial age, but still recognizably in the past, just with magic and the like. Then, FF7 hit and suddenly the FF series was a futuristic setting. Of course, since technology is "cool" and your standard 1400s setting is too D&D for the teen gamer who likes "awesome" games, the series kept on going in that direction. Now it's a befuddled mess, spawning utter feces like FFX-2 just to cater to a totally different audience than Square started off with.

It's more or less established fact that even if FF1 wasn't intended to be a single-player D&D, it played like one. They've gone from D&D to Star Wars, basically. It's not that I have anything against newer FF games (the travesties of FFX and FFX-2 aside—there really is no excuse), but the fact that they changed directions so completely in the span of one series really means they should stop disgracing the Final Fantasy name and make it a totally new series. I'll put it in simpler terms: it's like they started off playing soccer, and now they're playing rugby (or American football, take your pick).

I don't think anyone would like it if the next Grand Theft Auto game had the player as a (legit) cop who arrests criminals, or if the next Resident Evil game was a Splinter Cell knockoff. That's basically what Final Fantasy has done—made a complete 180 and disgraced the name of its own series. The games themselves may be fine (with my listed exceptions), but they really shouldn't be called Final Fantasy.
