Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Game Over!

Gengar is flat out this deck's worst matchup IMHO. I eventually started using the Dialga's without powers and waiting to level stuff up a bit and that helped some. There are also techs that can be used to protect your bench while you get set up, such as Torkoal LA, but honestly I never got around to trying it in play.

So I built a version of this and I really like it. Its really silly that you could be trailing 5 prizes to suddenly realize, "Hey I win!"

I'm not sure I'm playing it optimally yet(which is fine, cause I built it today). My question is the order your build your setup. Do you want to start Time Skipping early, even if you don't have the rest in place to win the game yet?
I could see it go either way.

Also, any tips against VileGar Shadow Rooming your stuff which dodges Rescue Energy and Final Wish and can put a real damper on your Level Xs?

I'll usually start time skipping early on. If you lose a turn, no big deal. If they lose a turn, that's just one more turn you have of free set up time.

I've been testing the deck lately and really love it, but my one big question is how do you deal with consecutive bright look + flash impact on palkia? In most of my luxchomp games I haven't been able to get palkia x out on the turn I need him because he keeps getting dragged up and KOed as soon as I play him. How do you guys deal with that? I've been adding a couple bubble shields to stop them from one shotting it but it's still tough sometimes.

If you're having Bright Look issues just drop in a couple Mesprit and chain them with Seeker. Just make sure you have a couple left over for when you get the lock. You can also, unless you really need the Jirachi's Detour, just take the chance on Time Skip. If your opponent doesn't get the turn, he can't Bright Look you.

Drop 2 palkia at the same time. If anything, they should be having a REALLY tough time getting rid of the palkias. Make sure you have ways to get them back. In all reality, this part of the matchup shouldn't be all THAT hard. I never had problems in testing keeping them in play.

Yes, I ran it at MD states. Most fun states I've ever had, making the TC round last for 100+ minutes...

I'm not gonna lie... this was the most painful match I have ever played... I honestly sat there most of the time and muttered "okay" as he announced his moves... on the occasion I got a turn I immediately bright looked the palkia and flash impact for knock out... every turn it was back... I think its was pushing 2 hours before we finished. Totally fried me for the rest of top cut lol

Thats what I was assuming, but every time the luxchomp player sees me drop double palkia they just get a second luxray and one turn bright look + flash impact one and then follow up with the same thing the next turn.

Maybe I should take waynegg's suggestion and run a mesprit or two, thanks for the tips.

An interesting variant I'm suprised Waynegg hasn't mentioned is a Mew Prime-based list which aims to Lost Zone Porygon Promo t1 to set up all of your Lv X's.

This has got to be one of the most hilarious decks I have seen since my question mark deck. It also hits me for my weakness which is luck. I played against the deck and flipped double tails three times in a row. I would change a couple cards, maybe add a couple things but I'm not sure what yet.

I really don't think mesprits are needed, maybe 1 at the most. I think you must be doing something wrong if you can't get palkias in play, and keep them in play. The deck is very well equipped to keep them out.

That is definitely an interesting twist, but I'd personally see the Jirachi variant as superior - Twins having the ability to grab your Warps, Rescues, Bench Shields, etc. as well as the Lv. Xs. But I can't knock it until I try it!

I'm having the same issue with multiple Palkia KO's, and I don't see where the deck is "well equipped" to keep them in play with ease. In testing, Palkia becomes an instant target. Getting two in play is pretty hard when you're having to get out all those other Pokemon as well. Plus, I bench two Palkia, they Bright Look/Flash Impact one, I get Palkia X in play, they Power Spray Lost Cyclone, they Bright Look/Flash Impact the X away. I cry. Mesprit would seem to clutter up an already heavy bench.

I'm not saying this to debase the article or deck concept, I think it's a superb idea. But I'm like 0-5 against Luxchomp so far and am ready to de-sleeve. :frown:

Rescue energy could help....or perhaps a single bubble coat. I think droping the palkia last (when you're ready to pull the trigger) is the only remaining solution to the luxray problem.

Not that I have anything on THE Eric Nance....I'm sure you've already though of it ;p

Option 1- Hold your Palkias. You can generally tell a couple of turns ahead when they'll be needed. Bench them then. Not the best option because then they move to your Dialgas.

Option 2- Rescue Energy to get them back. They'll run out of Poke Turns before they lock you out of them completely. Kinda the last ditch option.

Option 3- Dialga your KO'd Palkias back to your deck. Another last ditch option.

Option 4- Add 2 Mesprit (so you have the odds in your favor of at least one not being prized) while dropping a Seeker and the Copycat because those 2 cards won't hurt you to change out. Prevent the Bright Look and use up their sprays with Lost Cyclone as quick as possible. Best option, but they are bound to get one of your Palkias in the process.

*Note- you could also fit in Tomb so they can't Spray you, but you'll have to be mindful of your Warp Point usage so you can get it back to the bench to bring the Jirachi up and Double your Seeker.

Just one question....How did you make the top cut match last 100 minutes? Wouldn't you just automatically lose sudden death? / Game three time out

I found a semi-solution to this problem today in bubble coat. Yes its a mediocre card, but it turns the one shot from luxray into two turn knock out, which seemed to be enough to always buy me the time I needed to win, or distract them from bright looking other targets.

I did however have a new problem in the gyarados matchup against a five turn mesprit lock that started the turn after they took their first prize, leading them to six prizes while I couldn't use a single power. I don't know if there is a way to solve an extended mesprit lock, and I don't think there is any deck that can really deal with it, but how would you guys handle it with this deck?

I also feel I have to state what eriknance said, I'm not trying to bring the deck down, I love it and think its a great idea. I'm just trying really hard to understand what you guys would do in certain situations that I've come across.

The Palkia/Bright Look thing I had answers for. Mesprits chained against you is a little tougher. The only thing to counter that, and keep the deck intact and consistent that I can think of, is to fight fire with fire. Add your own Mesprits and get your chain going before they get theirs going.

its a fun deck but wouldnt sps normally run over it. particularly luxchomp. with power spray and such. and if you seekered then time skipped then you risk wasting said seeker.

That's odd that you're having so much trouble against Luxchomp. When I tested against it, he actually gave up on killing the Paklias (for the most part), and focused on killing other stuff, since the Paklias were generally impossible to get rid of. I found it hard to keep them in play, but not impossible, and most of the time, I could keep a steady chain of them going, or at the very least, ready. IM me on FB, and I'll see if I can help out with the Luxchomp testing. I have a few things in my version of the deck that I'm trying out that help, but I would rather not share on the gym just quite yet.

I was amazed when I saw this concept, i am gonna try it w/o the mesprit the w/mesprit, this has to be better then G'Dos Lol
