The problem is that only time will tell if this card will become playable at all. If people continually want the catcher effect, they can't use Colress Machine meaning, they have no Plasma Energy acceleration. Another bad thing about Genesect Ex is that it can't use DCE and unless it gets energy acceleration, there is almost no way to play it competitively. In my opinoin, at the moment Genesect Ex looks like it could end up in the same place as Reshiram Ex and Zekrom Ex, in the collective section not the playing section.
Ok, there is absolutely no way to draw such a comparison between Reshiram ex and Genesect ex.
1. Genesect's ability is INSANE for Plasma decks. Yes, Colress machine is the prefered method of getting Plasma Energy on, however it isn't always going to happen, and turning your attachment into a Catcher is fantastic.
2. Ether means any energy type can be accelerated if that is the only goal.
3 It has a 3 energy attack, not a 4 energy attack, and can be powered up in two turns with no negative effect.
4. We will have Deoxys, Plasma Ball, Frozen City and Shadow Triad for Plasma support, meaning you can spread damage on non Plasma decks, while doing 100-140/20, searching out all the Plasma pokes while having access to discarded Plasma energy. Reshiram EX's support is a stage 2 fire type with a weak basic for either Chandy or Emboar, and the basic, evo and reshiram have no mutual search cards outside of Ultra Ball.
5. Genesect and Scramble Switch/Scoop Up are a great way to use the ability but not lose the energy for decks that dont want to pay for grass energy.
Genesec may end up being a card who needs his own deck, or gets splashed in Plasma decks for the ability, but even if it doesnt see actual competitve play, it is far more viable than Reshiram, and easier to use than Zek.
