Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Gentlemen, how do we beat Machamp...Gyarados?

maybe... but you also have to take into account that 1. jumpluff is consistent as it gets 2. no one really plays a good list so you thats why u dont see anyone doing well with it and 3. it has the best matchups in the game

I could dissect what you said and explain why it's totally wrong, but let's just say the following.
Flash Bite+Flash Bite+Dragon Rush Shaymin.
Bright Look Shaymin
Dialga G lv.X turns off Shaymin
Crobat + Dragon Rush Jumpluff.
Dragon Rush Sunflora

I think I'm done.

Just sayin here, I've never lost to luxchomp with my gyarados, power spray doesn't even hurt that much when you can just junk arm or volkners and you're faster than LC now in this format. i get T2 Dos for 90-110 every single game and I recover dos back every single time. IMO the only thing that has better than a 50-50 matchup with gyarados is VileGar, but gyarados can tech dialga G X/combee and more volkner's/bebe's etc. so that can even the matchup a bit.

*scratches head* Vilegar is the only thing that has better than 50-50 to 'dos? Um...Magnezone? It completely annihilates Gyarados with any of its main points of attack. A good portion of the time, Magnezone will start with a Spiritomb, instantly purging them of their main trainer avenues: Poke-Turn, Junk Arm, Expert Belt, SSU, etc. Regi-Move my Spiritomb away? Sorry, I used a Collector for another 'tomb and two Magnemites and have already started evolving towards Magnezone SF or Magnezone Prime. Once SF is set up, it's hitting hard with a switch attack, bringing Spiritomb active and thus the lock begins again. Not to mention that once Prime is set up, you're using Judge as a great source of hand refresh, disrupting your opponent all the while. Let's also not forget that all it needs to do is blow two benched energies with a belt to KO a Gyarados, which most 'dos players will have a belt on as well, so that's two prizes.

The thing about Gyarados is that it's a solid attacker most of the game, but against a lot of the higher HP targets like Magnezone, it can't get the OHKO, especially when you consider the SF's ability to hit and run like the Cursegar of old. To contrast, 'zone Prime has limitless potential for a KO depending on the version you're running (straight Magnezone or MagneGatr) Also, Magnezone X's Electric Trans is completely absurd if you combine it with Seeker. Setting up your Tank that's loaded with Special Metals in one turn makes it completely irrational for Gyarados to even hope to take out when it's dealing with Trainer Lock as well.

The only way Gyarados has any chance at beating Magnezone is getting a better start (which is possible if all the pieces are in the right place, like using Portrait on a Collector or the 'zone player whiffing on starting with his dozen options for getting out Spiritomb, Collector and Call being main outs). If Magnezone even sets up 'zone SF, Gyarados is going to be scrambling to Seeker every turn to heal. If Spiritomb is KO'd, thanks, I use Twins to get another 'Tomb and something like the Level X or Special Metal if the X is already up.

In order for Gyarados to have a decent matchup against Magnezone (which will definitely see more widespread play as the season rolls on, especially if Gyarados remains popular) it's going to need to tech in Donphan again, or possibly use Seeker abuse with Mesprit in order to stop abuse of Electric Trans and Magnetic Draw. Even Donphan isn't foolproof because very few times does Magnezone SF ever leave itself open, and it can always Level Up to nullify 'phan's resistance. With a Belt, it'll still 2HKO a non-belted 'dos, and they wouldn't risk leaving 'dos belted anyway with the risk of being absolutely thrashed by the Prime.

Magnezone's options are incredible, and I'm surprised that more people aren't taking advantage of it. Give it time.

How are you getting 3 karp discarded and a dos on T2? Not saying I don't believe you. Just saying I'm super jealous. For some reason my dos list seems to not set up like that till T3

It's difficult and certainly doesn't happen "every game" like people seem to say.

I find that a player who holds off on dropping the gdos until after they've discarded the karps, such as myself, has a more realistic view on how long it takes to discard those karps than people who drop the gdos as soon as they get it, and worry about discarding later.

However, the latter strategy makes way more sense and probably does better overall. ;P

T3 is a pretty reliable estimate for my first Tail Revenge for 90. I have managed T2 before, but it is not easy.

Edit: I was going to add an answer to "How", but E4A basically beat me. Lead Sableye with collector in hand. Having Junk Arm is an added bonus. The most gold start I ever got was Sableye, Lux Ball, Collector, Junk Arm... good times, good times.

lancum i agree with u a lot of people don't see the potential of magnezone its underrated.
and a dos counter is celebi prime(works well most of the time) its cool and not known

I normally don't respond to these kinds of posts but this is really bugging me. What's Sabs? At first I thought it was Sableye, but if you went first you couldn't Poketurn... and your signature wouldn't make any sense.

Glad you asked, Shen, my man.

See, what you do is you Impersonate for Collector's for Spiritomb and two Uxies. Switch Sabs for Tomb, Set up twice and then Zapdos (which you would obviously have in your hand lol) with weighted dice for 1 damage counter on ALL THEIR POKEMON.

How can you lose? Obv

lrn2theorymon better

Considering 80% of G'dos players now-a-days are putting random jank in their decks instead of Volkners, just run 4 judge and BAM! You beat Gyarados. In all seriousness, the best way to destroy gyarados is to either destroy their hand, or prevent their recovery.

lrn2theorymon better

Theorymon has nothing to do with it. Try running Magnezone and saying that. Starting with either Magnemite or Spiritomb happens a majority of the time. Turn-1 or 2 Collector nets me a total of 2 'mites and 2 'Tombs, and one of those Magnemites has evolved into a Magneton. I run a 'dos build quite similar to Austino's with the large line of Volkner's (instead opting for a 1-1 Staraptor FB as my teched SP line), and against a lock, it NEEDS the Staraptor to search out the Volkner's for Judge recovery. Hint: Magnezone runs four Judges in order to be essentially a better version of Oak's New Theory when you combine it with Magnetic Draw. Judge in and of itself is already one of an underprepared Gyarados' worst enemies. Combine that with a target that it cannot hit (the hit and switch SF Magnezone that I run multiple copies of) barring a Luxray GL tech. Trainer-lock as well, combined with using a Poke-Power taking advantage of all of the above steps, and a late-game attacker that annihilates Gyarados easily due to weakness and can't be OHKO'd in return.

That's not theorymon. That happens every time unless dealing with the worst of prizes or a donk (which isn't going to happen if you don't run Sp. Darks like Austino or a minority of other Gyarados players do).
