I am... Torn on this.
-The Legend Mechanic does not look like a suitable replacement for the Level X Mechanic (which will be sorely missed).
-The major return of x2 Weakness doesn't appeal to me at all.
-Feraligatr looks like the only playable Great Pokemon for the coming format that we have translated.
-Pokemon whose effects/attacks pertain to Level X's (Steel Arceus, for Example) will become useless.
-'Goods/Items' replacing 'Trainers' just adds to the confusion of 'What is considered a Trainer,' a problem I foresee in PL-on if this remains this way.
-I do not like the way the text is placed in the Legends Cards, but it may look better when proper translation occurs.
-I don't like being so close to the faces of Great Pokemon, in spite of their artwork...

- The same was said for Ex to X. We'll manage.
- This I agree with, let's hope it's just with the Greats, tho Dunsparce raises questions.
- Typhlosion would beg to differ. There's a lot possible with that thing.
- True, but really, were they used all that often in the end anyway?
- This happened in the Ex-DP transition as well. We'll have to see if a further split comes.
- Matter of taste, I guess.
- See above.

All-in-all, I don't like this. I'll probably stick with the Platinum Series when the format shifts unless something amazingly broken comes in the HG/SS LEGEND sets. This doesn't look like a good thing, overall, and is such a discomforting change in the game that it might drastically affect the number of players.

Wow, really? I don't see how this will 'drastically' affect the number of players. The game seems to carry on nicely while it introduces new things from time to time. It's good to change things up sometimes. People are always nervous of change, but they get used to it pretty quickly. When EX was replaced by LV X, people found that weird and discomforting, but not any more.

The Legends card art looks amazing, the X2 Weakness will make building counter/metagame decks easier, and calling Trainers 'Items' will just make things clearer in the long run. It didn't make much sense to have 'Trainers' being a type of Trainer.

Apart from that, it is really hard to say anything else until we know what the new rules and support for 'Great Pokemon' will be. They may not just be like normal Stage 2 Pokemon, we will have to wait and see.

Bwahahahahahaha!

This set looks AMAZING!!! The art work is such a nice change!

people should right this down
this is like his most posetive post al;l year ;p

but yeah
lengends idk
sounds kinda weird
the mechanics sounds interesting
but wow the concept is kinda lame =/
idk
well see what they look like when the set comes out
i dont rly have muich opinions about it because yeah idk what to expect

but very interesting nonetheless

I really like the concept of Legend cards, it seems like a great new mechanic for the game. I just hope the execution is done very neatly... because all this potential could go down the drain. What I'm particularly worried about is the searchability of these cards, they can't possibly be considered "Basic Pokemon" or the like. Not sure if they'd fall under the category of a Pokemon at all, they're like... 1/2 a Pokemon, right? This raises the issue of recycling them via Night Maintenance I guess... but I'm looking more specifically into getting them into play.

If there's no search cards to get Legends into your hand, you're going to have to draw into them as your only means of obtaining them. This will only pump more luck based factors into the game... you gotta rely on hitting both copies of the card via draw. I hope it's not like that >_< So I'm anxious to see the rest of the set.

They might make cards that search legends. We'll just have to wait and see.

Is there any drawback to the new great cards. If you play them like a stage 2 I think they'll be overpowered.

I'm a little concerned with bench space, though. How are we going to fit 4 normally benched Pokemon and a sideways card? There's barely room for 5 regular spaces on a play mat...
I'd be mildly surprised if Legends don't count as occupying two bench spaces.

That would make me so mad. If it's functioning as one card, it should only take up one space.

That would seriously ruin this mechanic, though.

there's also a link to a HGSS wallpaper on that journal entry...the background to the wallpaper art reminds me of the sumi-e style used in the 'okami' game.

'mom

I loved Okami. What a work of art that game was. =)

About the new set:

- I'm fine with trainers being split into Items and Tools. As long as they don't split decklist sheets into more than three categories, they can call trainers whatever they wish.
- "Great" Pokemon don't appear to be any different than normal Pokemon except that we get closeups of their faces.
- Double weakness is back. That's probably going to change the game a bit, but without Scramble and DRE in the game, tech Stage 1 lines that could hit your weakness won't be as prevalent as before.
- LEGEND Pokemon look dumb.

I wonder if they'll reprint Here Comes Team Rocket so it can be used in tournaments. That would make getting Legend cards a little easier if they were in your prizes.

That'd be cool. Maybe we'll get a new Team Rocket set that can have it (and Dark Pokemon).

i know after the next set there not haveing level x's no more.....well one thing bad about them is the its hard to make them illegal in some ways well i think great pokemon have like tools you can attach to them and trainer cards that help them out like sp pokemon they had real high hp boring attacks though well som ehow with those trainers they might liven them up and the legends it sounds alright you might get to draw two prizes for knocking out a great pokemon it sounds like so far i see its kinda hard to power them well they there pokemon powers and pokebodys to help them. hey is this true there going to take out all diamod and pearl cards out next year if so no my glacion x witch i care about the most that came in diamond and pearl most of you will be surprized about that lol

Or maybe they'll still count as Pokémon, so you can Azelf them (at least for now).

English...please.

sorry i didnt feel like spell checking but i think legends will like have special trainer cards and tools and if you knock one out you get two prizez

I, like Pajamas, think that Pokémon-LEGEND will probably take two spaces on your Bench. I don't think that they'll count as 2 prizes though, that's weakening them far more than is necessary.

Not being able to Rare Candy into Great Pokémon would be a great balancing factor for them, and again would be a throwback to the games - you can't have well-trained Pokémon without putting any effort into it.
