I got second with HoPe today (Im Simon) and went 4/1 in theswiss with it and am going to say if i can do good with it, anyone can!

And olliver, Hayden won.

I feel like this is becoming Mario.. which is a shame.

I don't think its the deck as much as it is peoples attuitudes if people came on here and was realistic. aka "Donphan is a bad match up, but Hope does have a few tricks up its sleeves such as using Crobats Toxic Fang attack to try and Posion Donphan, while Donphan has numerous outs to this it is the best stradgy to use."

I have played 1 donphan, and it was not that good. I just sprayed everything, and dragged up a regirock. It was not much of a game...

Was it against a top player? Do you believe that this 1 game is enough to accurately gage the match up?

He said it wasn't good, and he said it wasn't much of a game. Pretty sure, he said it, more to proove that he had beaten one, more than to post significant data. Just what I'm assuming :)'

Speaking of fanboys up in this thread.

I have nothing against the concept of Hope, nor do I think many of those arguing against it do.

In fact, were I not a denizen of the Pokegym, I doubt I'd have anything against it.

However, you mention Hope in your tournament report and you have random seniors(/newly minted masters) spouting off illiterate garbage and acting foolish as adolescents (myself included) are wont to do. This creates the image of Hope as a hyped BDIF and gives it a lot of bad press, reactions to which (and perpetuations of which) you see in this thread.

tl;dr - it's an interesting deck to play, although I think the Honchkrow-dependent strategy can be a little ignorant of tempo at times, and not without its merits, however it is by no means the BDIF.

I already know most of the top oregon players, they don't seem to be showing up in any of these tournament reports. Unless Eleki and his buddies have been living under a bridge for the past 4 years, they'd know exactly who each of these individuals are and cite beating them as evidence of Hope's viability. Since this hasn't come up, I'd say this is just a bunch of meaningless hype. Until you see this sweeping up high end local players like Andrew or Steven Lowe, Dillon McCord, Jason Schein, Clint Armstrong, or Steven Battalgia, all of us would be wise to stay skeptical. Hard to take someone seriously when it's all a bunch of seniors and new masters spouting off vague comments about what they're beating.

What if top players just aren't playing Donphan these days for some strange reason? I mean, I can't imagine why not, but it's still something to consider, you know?

For starters we don't have a hope list to work off of here on the gym, so there's really no point to the discussion. On the hope supporter side, since there is no build, they can make all the vague comments they want supporting their matchups and how you can do this and that without regards to consistency or situation. If I told you I had a deck that beat everything in the format while vacuuming the rug and doing the dishes while working as a deodorizer, you'd naturally be skeptical, especially if I didn't show you how it works.

I believe he said this was a basic list, if someone tested this against Donphan and started putting up good results. The arguement this is only a basic list would come into play.

I don't even know why this is a solid discussion anymore.

Hope has a bad matchup to Donphan. Hurr durr end of story. No one tried to deny this.

I was wondering what deck is this. I see it around and then I try to search it on google and it gives me "hope" decks or something along those lines which isn't what I'm looking for.

This was the original post..

when did the HoPe autolosses to Donphan become what this thread is about?
