Ugh. This smacks of the "
*whack* thank you sir, may I have another" approach to rarity. If Nintendo wants to create such rare cards, this is not the way. Those who I know who collect Pokemon, do so because it is reasonable. Once cards get too rare, it is almost disgusting to think of the money being spent on completing a collection, considering the only purposes are... erm... looking at the pretty pictures and an incredibly finicky store of value? That is, at best, lame, and at worst, could be viewed as evil. From the player's standpoint, the nice thing about Pokemon is even the card that are inflated to insane prices by demand tend to still be cheap enough that they are still withing the reach of someone from the middle class, and anyone that can afford a minor hobby can usually make a strong deck. Finally, something I don't see a lot of outside of Pokemon, is the player/collector, especially outside of the "Upper" class. one must be a tad selective: I myself am a player/collector. I will likely have to stop soon. I never collected first edition cards, as they were too pricey. I also had to give up on Reverse Holos, and that is fine too. But the excess plain holos in the last five sets makes it nearly impossible to get four copies of most cards for playing, let alone another copy for a collection. I confess, I have only completed two sets of the older cards, but I have a realistic possibility of completing most of my sets... or rather I did before WotC had to rush out their last three.
Anyway, if they want to do some sort of super-exclusive card, they need it to be a reprint of another card. Why? It's pretty hard to make 100% sure that there will never be a use for a card. I actually have a deck that really needs Tropical Winds. >_<
Edit: and in case anyone is thinking this is sour grapes, I pulled a Mudkip* and it saved my butt in the Pre-release (d'oh!).
