Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Japan's New Format and some new BW rules

I stand by my prediction for the end of year rotation, though I neither deny nor dislike the idea of a mid season cut.

I will say there are the type of changes that end card games. They better be darn sure that it will make the game better because if they aren't it could kill Pokemon as far as a TCG is concerned. It happened with DBZ and other games, no reason to think too many changes couldn't do the same to Pokemon.

I can't imagine these changes would bring on something that serious. When you think about it, I'm pretty sure they're just trying to solve one of the biggest issues in the game right now which is the sped factor. This definately slows things down and in the long run could let them build the game back up however you'd like to think they will.

Looking over the new and translated list, there really aren't that many game breaking changes aside from rare candy tbh.

. . . the sky is falling!

But seriously, thse rules seem designed to a) stop donks and b) make going first less of a bad thing in a HGSS-on format.

Isn't that what people want?

Or would they rather run around panicking about imaginary mid-format rotations?

The problem is that YES, these rules stop donks...
EXCEPT ANY AND ALL INVOLVING BASICS VS BASICS.

Sableye is going to be the worst culprint, able to fire off Poketurned Crobat G's, SSU the Uxies to dig in what it needs, then using Belt to donk...well pretty much anything. In case you say Spiritomb, I say that that is already a donkable basic.
In a less annoying but still painful case theres Shuppet and Dunsparce. They too can easily browse almost all their deck in one turn, but they cannot guarantee going first and are initially less powerful then Sableye.
Then theres stuff like Luxray GL and Garchomp C, able to use a DCE for 30...or Chomp C a DCE + Gain for 50.
Playing a non-SP deck? Have fun getting Toxicroak G + Egain + Stadium + Skuntank against you T1.

And with PT still in the format...I'll start, drop BTS, get Machop-Machoke-Machamp-Energy and its game.

Until PT and SF bugger off, these rules only enforce donks.

Sableye would be gone in a HGSS rotation?

IDK why everyone is assuming pokemon will do something stupid? I know they've done stuff that I've disagreed with in the past, but its never been stupid.

Chill out and let them do there jobs, and stop saying you can do it better.....

I agree . . . I don't see these new rules coming in until those sets are rotated out. They are just not designed for sets like PL and SF.

Until anyone knows different . . . getting all worked up about it now just seems ridiculous.

If it happens, panic then. Stop torturing yourselves with it now.

Simply put, this will not be allowed to happen. Look at the above two responses. These rules will likely be seen at the end of the year along with some crazy format cut (probably to HGSS).

People really need to stop thinking less 'now' and more 'then' because it's OBVIOUS that these changes in our current format would spell 'disaster' for everything. If Japan is smart enough to implement this in a new format without heavily overpowered basic decks running around but WITH lost world (assuming they can still play lost world) then it can't be THAT bad...

I still say that we hold off freaking out, think about THEIR format a little more and THEN worry about it in 9 or so months.

The rules would probably go in once B&W hit, kinda like what happened with D&P.
B&W is likely to hit at May at the least.

That is my point, argue about it what you like. But I doubt we're gonna play worlds with having the Japanese not only adapt to a different FORMAT from their own, but also a different RULESET.

That's completely understandable which is why a lot of people are thinking a mid season cut or SOMETHING.

I'm not denying anything here to be honest. I'm just trying not to worry about it in hopes that SOMETHING balances everything back out. The way I see it, worst case scenario is we get a really weird end year format with these new rules in which everything we know about pokemon blows up for a few months before the rotation hits and everything balances back out.

In all honesty, I do hope for a mid season cut if the rules are implemented when B/W hits which when you thinki about it, the rules kind of DO have to change with the set launch just because of how the cards are formatted.

But again...let's wait and see.,

at least my Pory-donk don't need Candies, only BTS.
And lol, I am sure they are switching effects between Great Ball, Master and Luxury Balls...as to make it more....correct. You know that Luxury Ball we got now should of be a Master Ball... :p:p

And Jalorda... <3 Its Nidoqueen all over again :D

Well since the Trainers/Supporters are the problem, and not really the Pokémon...

What if they implement the rules at the start of the 2011-2012 season, the format is PT-on, but you can only use Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums from HGSS-on? All you really do then is kill off the unfair advantage that SPs will have with the new rules. (Well, and make Arceus completely and utterly unusable. But it's not like that's a massively played deck.)

There's so many different things they could do to "solve" the problems that people are bringing up, it's almost not even worth discussing the possibilities/doomsday scenarios.

So does this "trainer's" on the first turn rule affect the trainer cards from before black and white? Like, will playing a ssu or a bebe search on the first turn be legal?

Seriously. Can someone enlighten me? I don't see a clear indication either way?

Allowing T/S/S on the first turn stops donks? Huh?

Also, forgot to mention this in my previous post. Why would they think it was a good idea to remove the Supporter rule? Why? There is absolutely no reason to remove it! It actually seems to invite cheating!

To bad there are no fossils in a HGSS-on format.

I am so tired of facing SP/Machamp/Gengar/Gyarados I wouldn't mind to move over to a HGSS-on format as soon as possible.
Why keeping a format with 13 sets while most of the cards are/become hard/impossible to play.
