Better flippers maybe, but players? Nah.
On what basis is this judgement being made? After all, you weren't at Worlds last year...

Oh, and before anyone bothers to say it: neither was I, though I'd been invited to be on the staff; I had to miss it because of family committments.

Hmmmmm,.....I remember a thread about how PUI was tight and should let the States prizes pass down.....and now it's a complaint about letting the prizes pass down........Dav, can I get a "too bad" right here?
Look, if the players who won 1st and 2nd had not played, then the 3rd and 4th players become 1st and 2nd, and so deserve the trips. And don't even try to factor the people who lost to the players who already had trips......
I'm going to give up a Team Rocket trade secret, if you follow this, you are guaranteed to win any tournament you play in. I won team Sealed Worlds in 2002, and have trained many players to titles, and this is my plan:
1. Find the pairing sheet, sit at the table # you are assigned. 2. Play the player sitting across from you, and beat them. 3. repeat steps 1., & 2. until the end of the tournament. At the end of the tournament, you will have no reason to complain about pass downs, as you will have won.
BTW, coming in 3rd or 4th at a Regionals is a hard thing to do. But the cut off line has to be somewhere, and it's not going to make everyone happy, and some good players will get left behind. But you have to draw the line somewhere and stick to it. (Personally, I hope Fullop wins every tournament he plays in. I like anybody who plays Team Rocket)
TEAM ROCKET WILL RULE THE WORLD.......Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I can attest to the effectiveness of the "Rocket Plan For Victory"TM I was once a lowly n00b who sat across from my opponents and only won sometimes, usually making 2nd place. But when the Rocketman shared his trade secret with me I won TWO Regionals!!! :O!! This trade secret can be yours for the very low price of 3 easy payments of $19.99, despite we just told you it. :D

Cause Fulop is da BEST, and if they beat him, it had to be luck :)

The Legend
Four amazing pokemon players returned to the game after a break mastering poker. Those champion players, known to you mortals as Jason Klaczynski, Alex Brosseau, Seena Ghaziaskar, and Matt Moss are poised to sweep worlds this year. So far, resident choke artist Matthew Moss is the only master in the group without a trip, however, he has only attempted it once and was within a prize of doing so. This team of world class athletes (yes athletes) are not only increasing the depth of America's bench, but are bringing up the levels of all their competition. Yes, where both the USA Basketball team and the USA Pokemon players failed in the year two-thousand and four, this year, they will succeed in amazing fashion. BELIEVE IN THE DREAM!

Do you believe... in miracles? August 21st, 2005 AD; believe.

From your statement it doesn't sound like a miracle...more like anything but victory is failure

Yeah but you gotta add some hype! I mean, come ON, the pistons LET (yes let) the Heat win 3 games in the Eastern Conference Championships, just to keep things interesting and appease the fans! Matthew Moss threw his T8 match day 1 of the WCSTS after proving that he could win w/ Big Fire in a Gatr-dominated environment. Why? To hype up his inevitable win the next day!

America loves drama, America DEMANDS drama, and when you want bodies in the seats, reporters looking more like paparazzi, and eyeballs glued to the television, you look no further than "All Killer, No Filler" Moss for the solution to your hype needs.

Moss, be like Chris and turn to the dark side.........the dark side is strong within you..........Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaahah
Team Rocket will rule once more......and there will be peace.

We keep some of our best players at home because they live in competitive areas and then people wonder why the Japanese swept worlds =\
I'm sure that Mr. Fulop would argue otherwise.

Last year at Worlds I saw a lot of Japanese players take a deck that we in the US had discounted to tier 3 and consistently beat us over the heads with it. The deck was consistent in it's draws, it's simple strategy, and their play was almost flawless.

Better flipping? Yeah, sure. Tell yourself that if it makes you feel better.

What will be different this year?

so it had nothing to do with the Japanese turning up with a deck that was a good counter to the USA metagame? That seems a much more likely explanation for their deserved victory than an alledged ability to flips heads on demand.

"Mastered the art of flipping"?

So what's stopping any of the US players from doing the same thing, this year? Other than the preference for using dice?

It just takes _practice_, right?

I can flip my vile coin heads on demand :D took me a month, but i can do it 9/10 of the time now, i can also do tails 9/10 of the time when i want to as well, its pretty sweet, but i use dice, because i would be cheating with that coin. If you see a vile coin, Hope against everything that you dont face the person with it LOL!

UPDATE TO THE LAMENESS OF THE TOURNAMENT SYSTEM:

AJ won a trip at the Michigan GC coming in THIRD. Yes, get that through your brain. I came in third at a REGIONAL, with twice as many people, six rounds, a T16 cut, and TWO trips given out. He comes in 3rd at a gym challenge, with half as many people, five rounds, a T8 cut, and only one trip given out. How his accomplishment outwieghed the accomplishments of someone like Martin Moreno (who has placed third in two regionals) astounds me. I don't get it =\ How is 3rd at a very small tournament worth more than 3rd at a huge regional? Lameness!

Ah, but now you're opening the door to subjective awarding of prizes (rather than the systematic method used now).

Moss (tongue pressed firmly to cheeck)....You just need to find the better tourneys to finish 3rd at!

Note regarding flipping:
There is a rule that the Japanese follow.
It has to flip at least 3 times in the air or it doesn't count.

If your opponent is doing partial flips, call them on it.
Somehow, I don't think that's the real problem.

You know what, ..... how can I say this kindly? Get over yourself! How many times do you need to be told that this happens when you play a game competitively? Sour grapes will get you no where. Regret will get you no where. Whining will definitely get you no where. Play better next time to get 1st - or maybe even 2nd place so you'll have a chance to get those trips. Be thankful you have so many chances at getting those trips - whether you end up getting them or not, lots of other people don't have anywhere near the amount of chances that you have had. Believe it or not, you're sounding more and more like a spoiled brat. Do you want everyone to have that impression of you? Moss Factor, build within yourself a little more self control and empathy instead of always thinking of "me, me, ME!" Perhaps one day it may help you as a professor. You obviously have skill, but what is skill without humility?
