Tangible as in how?

Here is an idea. Each player that submits an article submits a picture and a bios. Every month, a player who has submitted an article has their picture and bio plastered on the front page of the Pokegym with their accomplishments and stuff. Like, in a way to say thanks for helping the gym. It'd be called, "Player of the Month". Wouldn't be hard to code in, and people might like being on the front page of the forum.

It's not tangible, but it's a way to say thanks.

Yeah, that's something to second.

Flaming Spinach: I certainly hope that there is some way we can show our appreciation for the contributions of the users here on the gym. However, at this point I want to apologise to you. It is true, you may have had some disappointing things said to you about one article or another of yours. But I'm going to tell you something I told another person lately. The views of a seemingly large vocal minority does not necessarily express the views of the majority of the pokegym's users. I will always say that the pokegym's community is the best there is out there. And you are a valued part of it - don't ever let anyone make you believe otherwise. Even if no one else decides to back me on this, I appreciated your articles, and will continue to do so. Please don't stop. However, for now, only the future can tell if we'll be truly able to show appreciation for contributions.

I really do have to say Flaming_Spinach has been one of the people holding it down as of late in the writing department. It has always been an aspiration of mine to be a Professional writer, but I kinda gave up on that due to other things in my life taking up my time unfortunatly. Although I have been published in two Pojo Yugioh books. The written word is such a versatile tool. It's like painting on a canvas, it's such a remarkable thing.

Since we have mod/player conflicts out of the way, next on the agenda is that I feel Prime is the MVP of this discussion with such an amazing suggestion. Player of the month? That's an incredible idea. Think about what competition is going to do to the quality of submissions? Who woulden't want to be featured? Who would be a less than productive poster when their chances of being featured can be diminished? Maybe all this discussion has lead to something with meaning? We can sit here and interpret till the cows come home!

... I've written an article which has NOTHING to do with decklists, or playing at all. Does that mean people don't want articles on collecting, or rare cards, or other similar stuff? I don't think so. The response to my article has been positive, and if I had the time, I would do other follow-up articles.

I most certainly wouldn't want to have my picture up there for 'player of the month' when I've never playeed a game in my life... but if it gets more articles up here, then maybe players should go for it.

I think "PokeGym Member of the Month" or something more versitile would be more appropriate.

I liked you article dogma.

Just skimmed the whole thread. Didn't see a post by Pooka. I like Pooka and think he could do well with an authority position. Does he want it? No post yet.

I don't think this is so much about Kyle, or the actual overall state of the Gym, anyway, as it is about a certain Mod (just what I'm picking up on from the subtleties of Martin's posts). If so I see your point a little, but I think this may be a little too public way to handle it. If it is what I think you're talking about, I don't think it's that big of a deal really. I've notice a decline in negative activity from that particular direction of late, or at least slightly lessened negativity.

As far as the Jimmy ban thing. I talked to him yesterday and he didn't even mention it and it's already over today. I'm sure it's no biggy to him. I'm sure that he realizes he did a minor no-no.

The idea is decent, but its not going to improve the community on its own. For that to happen, we need to figure out ways that we can strengthen the connection between player and community. One part of that would be for the person who posted an article to get some recognition on the front page.

What I do see lacking is the whole website feel. Some people were talking about posting articles on Pojo. I think it makes you feel better when they post on the front page that they have a new article from the world champion or from the creator of a popular deck. The feeling that thousands of people will be reading your article, it's kind of cool. Instead, we have articles that might show up on the front page, but are actually really hidden within the forum. They don't really get to shine like articles on websites do. I really like how WPM at the Pokebeach works with his articles. Every article links back to his forum for discussion. Why can't we have a mixture of both ideas? We already have the discussions on the forums and people submitting articles. What we are missing is the website to accommodate all the articles and a true homepage for the forum to really give the forum the big official Pokemon website feel. The official Pokemon websites just don't work, they are much more directed towards the younger audience. This would offer a home to the older crowd and to the people who play the card game competitively.

Just an idea though.

I think if i follow you correctly, I think you're talking about a dedicated front page writer who "features" the best of the pokegym's news and threads, linking to the appropriate threads within his daily front page article. It might work. It would definitely have to be someone dedicated to do just that: scouring the net for news, and the gym for popular items. I don't know how hard something like that would be to set up, but it would certainly be a full time job for the writer. I don't know if that appeals to someone or not, and there's no guarantee the users will read it, or appreciate it .....

I have purposefully abstained from this debate until now. I didnt care for all the negativity being directed (not so subtly, I might add) toward a Mod. Now, the thread has finally taken a constructive path. I too like Prime's idea of "Member of the Month" recognition. Will this fix all? No. The only way that will happen is if all the members strive to post better, kinder, more informative posts. When a deck idea is posted, either give props, fixes or suggestions. No more " that list suxcors" posts.

As your Momma has told you before, if you cant say something nice about someone, dont say anything at all. This should be mandatory in the deck help forum. Now, in other areas, you certainly have the right to post Q's, gripe about rulings at tourneys, etc. We still need those type of discussions. Keep them more genenaric though, unless the poster was the actual person involved.

OT(orig topic): I dont think Pooka or any of the "younger, leeter" players deserve an Admin postition. As some of the Mods have posted here already, the way you post now dictates who they may ask to bc a Mod in the future, but not an Admin. Different duties.

Lawman, my mum doesnt love me enough to tell me things like that.

now, for my first actually CONTRUCTIVE post in this whole freakin thread.

If you make the younger more 1337 players admins/head admins, heck, you may as well build Pokegym's funeral. I mean, if you make it run by the "young" generation...make sure you build the tomb out of play blocks!

and as for all these comments about making Pokegym run by Lafonte, and they will do all you are saying it will do. all it will do is make Lafonte members come on every 2 seconds and post "Lafonte > you" and "we are so 1337" and "we rule" and "SOUR GRAPES!1!!111"

Light post in dream last night said:
Instead of complaining about how the mods are doing badly, instead of the mods having to deal with that. maybe they could deal with REAL issues

All everyone is doing is complaining about how they deserve to be this and deserve to be that. all I can say is you may think you deserve something, but you must earn it first
