Mewtwo, Darkrai, Rayqauza EX ALL to be tin Promos in Fall

Those Darkrai's however will still be valuable to collectors even after release. Players will still trade Highly now for Darkrai's due to Nats/Worlds coming up. Collectors will still need the previous Darkrai's since this will be different art, and include a promo stamp.

If anything, if you're not collecting and are not playing Darkrai EX's, then this benifits you the most. People that play and need Darkrai will keep the price high, while other collectors become tools saying, "Its going to be 15 later, so lets price that now." Don't fall for that, because it will remain high till after worlds.

See, this is the way it's supposed to be done. Is one card dominating the game? Tin it! Just like Yanmega Prime....

This is also another reason why I love the Pokemon TCG; can you imagine the collective RAGE if Jace the Mind Sculptor was released in a $20 duel deck??

ONE FUN FACT: In the Yanmega Prime reprint, there was a change in it which made it obvious that it was a reprint; ideally this means it's possible that it's possible to tell which is a pack-pulled Yanmega and which was a reprint, meanjng it's possible for the pack-pulled ones to retain SOME value. Likewise, I imagine there will be slight differences in the Mewtwo EX and Darkrai EX reprints that will separate them from the pack-pulled version... but I guess we'll see, won't we?

This totally made my day. And made up for me pulling the three worst EX cards from both my Next Destinies and Dark Explorers box. So happy I didn't buy any Mewtwo EX yet. I just had a feeling it would be tinned at some point.

Was honestly looking at Darkrai on ebay last night. Glad I waited.

Mew EX will be the big money card from Dragons Exalted. Terrakion will be the Tornadus EX of the set.

This is what everyone gets for hoarding Darkrai. I'm really sick of there being no cards of value in print in Pokémon. Rayquaza is going to be bad, so who cares that it is in a tin, but Mewtwo and Darkai? Really guys? Seriously, I'd like to be able to pull something worth more than 30 freaking dollars sometime.

Play Magic then. Or start collecting other cards. I have a PokeTour1999 Pikachu, Wartortle error and two 2004 Regionals Metang which are all valued at over $30... I never fret over a recent card's "non-value" because I have those...

For me, the REAL value in the game is all the fun I have playing it. I don't play it for all the moneys I could get (especially once Modified is shifted and past cards become useless). The fact that I have cards that are valued at at least $10 is a positive side effect, but it's not the reason why I play/collect...

I'm a collector but I know how you feel. If people truely want to collect for $$$, they need to go to Yugioh because most $ secret rares tend to remain a high price despite reprints.

This is a good job on TPCI's part. Giving the masses those 3 EX cards in a tin will mean huge profit for them.

Well this means ill be tradeing for a darkri ex tommorow at battle roads....the people who paided a lot of money for darkri ex and mewtwo ex got screwed on this deal....glad i never did.

This is... awesome! Great decision by TPC. The cards will still hold their value for awhile since they're needed for Worlds and Nationals, while for competitive players this is a great jump start for next season.

Honestly, I saw this bit of news early this morning and later thought it to be a dream because it seemed too unreal, haha.

Seriously, I understand where your coming from because pulling something valuable is always nice but at least they're giving everyone the chance to get the money cards. Is that a bad thing now?

And people who have these cards still have time to sell them and buy them again and collectors will probably keep them if they have them. Meanwhile, the people who want Mewtwo and Darkrai but couldn't afford them can now get them.

- Everybody does have a chance, it's called buying a booster pack.

- People who want Mewtwo and Darkrai can't afford booster packs?

Seriously, this is all stupid. People are praising this because "now they can afford them" but did everybody stop buying booster packs and stick to buying single cards? I've pulled 3 Mewtwo EX's from booster packs so it's not impossible guys.

Your sig:
Avid Nintendo collector and part-time Pokemon player.

You and i have different priorities. Players are happier than collectors about this.

I play and I'm not happy. So people can't afford the single card price so they get it in a tin even though there are plenty in booster packs?

EX Pokemon come 3 to a box. That means you have about a 1/12 chance of pulling any EX. Since there are 6 EX, you have a 1/72 chance of pulling the one you want. Trying to get a full playset through packs isn't really a viable option for most people.

Your sig says "part-time," which sounds more casual than competitive. Of course, that's an assumption, but cabd is just pointing out that for competitive players, this is a breath of fresh air. Our first 2 sets to feature the "return of EXs" have a few things in common that are quite annoying to players who want to compete:

  1. There aren't many different EXs in the sets. Old ex sets had as many as 12+ different EXs in them. More EXs in each set generally means more EXs in each box (also, more "really good" EXs to trade with as well).
  2. One EX is particular (Mewtwo for NDX and Darkrai for DEX) has loads more playability than all the other EXs. Umm, and Tornadus EX. When one ultra-rare is worlds above the rest in terms of playability, that card's value rises.
  3. Finally, even though each set has 12+ ultra-rares when you include full-arts and shinys, we still only get 2-4 of these ultra-rares per box. It's a low distribution and means that you can easily go through 3 boxes of cards and get only 1 Mewtwo or Darkrai EX.

As for me, I've largely stopped buying booster packs because of this. There aren't "plenty" in booster packs like you say — the chances of pulling an ultra-rare are the same for packs in booster boxes. And since there are EXs that are largely inferior to Mewtwo/Darkrai/Tornadus, you can drop a lot of money before ever pulling one of the cards featured in these tins.

All I know is that I'm much more enticed to purchase tins like these than drop hundreds on booster packs/boxes and maybe get what I need. As of right now, I'm purchasing singles and borrowing from friends. This decision gets me to buy boosters again. And for new players, a tin here or there is also a great place to start.

I'd like to hear from the people who say Mewtwo EX should be banned.

Ah you remembered that thread I posted about Mewtwo EX awhile back, how observant of you. With my experience with Mewtwo EX thus far especially in States and Battle Roads I'll admit that it does have a positive impact on the current format quite a bit but at the same time it makes it very annoying with the Mewtwo Wars.

It ALWAYS comes down to an even 2 prize tradeoff with your opponent but aside from that, one of the great things about Mewtwo EX is that it covers Weakness for decks that struggle alot with Type Disadvantage such as Zeels which is weak to :fighting: and Tornadus EX helps alongside it as well too with amazing consistency.

Alot of decks since the release of Next Destinies required to run 2-3 Mewtwo EX to stay competitive but the Tin Promos finally fix that problem which is great for this format and the next. Then again I'm not sure how good the EX's will be especially Mewtwo in particular when we get the new Sigilyph from Dragons Exalted which comes out in August either before or after Worlds 2012.

We'll wait and see how that holds up I guess...

Well given that Mewtwo EX has the highest pull rate in Next Destinies when it was first released, TPCi may have changed the pull rate for it to where it's much easier to pull. This time however Darkrai EX has the highest pull rate in Dark Explorers and they might change that eventually. I did hear that some guy pulled 2 Mewtwo EX's out of his packs, not sure If it was from Blister Packs or a Booster Box though.

Actually, real collectors will be fine with this. Now they will have an alt art to add to their collection. Short-term variations in the price of EX cards don't bother them at all. From a collection point of view, set Darkrai and tin Darkrai are completely different things.

The people who this hurts are those trying to make money on the secondary market.

Where is the evidence for Mewtwo and Darkrai having the 'highest pull rate'? You would need the info from thousands and thousands of boxes to even come near justifying that assertion.
