What about the idea of the games having two seporate "sides" cartridge wise- like one is a "hero" version, and the other is the "villian" version. The story lines can be opposite for each side. The games could be a "format" that could make for you to be able to "rise in rank" in the storymode, and if you battled a person who is say the hero, you are the villian, you gain or lose rank in the game. And if you do a link battle with a friend, the same applies to your rank. The games should have areas that will "change" via a wifi download that will keep certain parts of the game "new".
Also, if the outworld is "3d" and indoors is 2d, the battles should be full 360' pan view when you have a linked battle.
And for the hero and villian idea- a villian goes in to a gym to take it over, while a hero would have to reclaim the gym from the villian. And like certain pokies can learn certain moves specific to the nature of the villian or hero- but will lose the move if it is traded to the opposite side of the story.
