New Onix Error?

If this thread isn't all trolls, then yay for most ridiculous hype ever!

SRYSLY? 3 Onix on my bench to heal 3 damage counters is broken?
Better start trading all my Luxray GL Lv.Xs for these before I'm too late...
 
i dont see what the problem is honestly, I mean your not healing that much. I mean Nidoqueen heals everyone 1 between turns so its not a big deal honestly
 
Didnt Gatr already have something akin to this available? Lil card called Dawn Stadium?
Dawn Stadium + Onix = Pretty hefty healing, particulary if you return the energy to your hand. I smell chances for ENTEI/SUICUNE, 160 HP + 100 Snipe + 2 energy back to the hand every turn? If you can get your field like this...
Active: Entei/Suicune
Bench: Gatr Prime/Claydol/Onix/Onix/Free slot
You'll be healing 60 a turn (2 energy, counting Dawn Stadium).....
 
Wow. This thread got blow out of proportion.

Some are hyping this card like its the best card in the set by far. While others are being bitter and smug over the "inaccurate" hype.

I was simply making an observation about how this Onix was different from its original translation.

Everyone should just wait for the official ruling before claiming that its just what Blastoise/Feraligatr needed. That decks need a bit more than a 4 reatret cost bench sitter who can't do anything else but give you one of the worst starts you could imagine.
 
Which is why its better with Entei/Suicune ;)
Seriously though, I do recall browsing through Pokebeach's RR Translations finding an error, I should see if I can still find it...its not like Pokebeach is always 100% correct.
 
There was an error in the HGSS translations. Remember the sunflora that let you search for one grass energy per turn? Remember how it wasn't actually energy it let you search for? >.>
 
even if its legit it still doesnt make it super powered, yes a decent card but as beefed up as you guys are making it, no way. Im not bashing it at all because I see how it could be used but I still dont think its the greatest or worse card ever.
 
I agree, I think that it is only going to end up being a serviceable card. Yes people can sit here and think up absolutely perfect scenarios for it, but how often will those get set up? Nidoqueen heals everyone once in between every turn. Onix in most cases will heal 1 damage counter per turn with your energy attach. Yes, it would help out Gatr Prime because you can attach more energies. No, its not the Godsend card of the decade that should be banned. Unless people build decks specifically based off of this card and trying to trigger a perfect setup for maximum healing, I don't see why people are so scared/opposed of this card.
 
Well yea... on second thought, even if it's as is stand. It isn't THAT great.
With the metagame having attacks that use such low energy costs, the benefit of healing only when an energy is attached
is very limited. Most Pokemon will be fully (energy) charged before taking any damage.

And unless you intend to put additional energy (more than required to attack) on your Pokemon, you're not healing then.

The thing is... prereleases, drafts and other limited events don't always follow the "Rule of 4." So you could have 6 Onix's in play and heal 6 each turn. Or 5 in play with active steelix or other tank and heal 5.

If it does get errata'd, it wont be until after prereleases, so super powerful draft-tank GO!

So going to make a steelix deck if this is the correct wording, if not viable, then for fun. Can anybody read japanese and verify what the correct wording on the japanese steelix is? I love pokebeach and all, but there's a big difference between grass energy and grass pokemon, just as well as there's a difference between this pokemon and any pokemon.
 
When I first began reading the card, I assumed it would be for Onix only, and was surprised to see that it's not. When I noticed that, I thought it was a card with potential... not broken by any means, and it is indeed a horrendous start, with a retreat cost of 4 and the inability to attack until he has FCCC. It's a shame to hear that the Japanese version is for Onix only, so I'm pretty sure they'll errata it like Mantine TRR. If they don't, I'll be very surprised, but even if that's the case, it's certainly not going to be Slowking NG all over again.

What evidence is there saying that pokebeach translated it right? Due to the recent mishap with sunflora, not that I believe it's one way or the other right now, I'm inclined to believe the scan.
 
Not like they didn't give Metapod HS a pretty sweet Body. I can't see this card being broken, and it would be total deadweight vs Gyarados or Dialga anyway. Plus with huge retreat cost, Luxray can pull him up and hit around him. Jumpluff should be OHKOing anyway. Plox with prevent you from using any powers to attach more than 3 damage counters. Cursegar plays Dusknoir and can move damage counters to still score a 2HKO msot of the time, while locking SSU.

So as a tech, this thing does like, nothing against the ENTIRE meta. In Steelix ofcourse, I love it. Since you need one anyway, might as well have one who assits tanking when you can't evolve him :D
 
well the problem is people are thinking "man i could drop 4 onix's on my bench and heal like a boss!"


but in a metagame like ours, your really gonna waste 4 spaces on your bench?

even running one seems to take up too much space.

i think it could see play in water decks, but besides that, it will have low play.

The Pokebeach translation is the correct one.

Generally what happens when we have a mistake on Beach is that I read the card correctly, but type the wrong word in the spoiler. I discover the error either upon re-reading the spoiler or when somebody proposes a strategy that isn't feasible on our boards, and we get the mistakes ironed out within a day of posting. The problem with something like Sunflora is that the typo makes sense in context, and when people read things, their brains automatically fill in the information they "expect" to see. So, even after reading the card several times, the error is so innocuous that it slips under the radar.

I'm guessing this is what happened to PUI when they translated Onix: Someone misconstrued the first "this Pokemon" as "your Pokemon", then the second "this Pokemon" became a reference back to "your Pokemon". Every time they read the card after that, it seemed like that was what it was supposed to say. So I can understand where the error came from, and I empathize. My real question is how the card made it past playtesters and QC. If I'd proposed a Basic Pokemon with a stackable body that abuses Rain Dance, even Water Pokemon Master--who SWEARS by my translations, would've sent me back to recheck the source!

What's saying that the same mistake hasn't been made about onix with you, instead of them?
