Opening Pokemon (Article) Featuring MD Updates

Pachi

Here's my view on Pachi:
1.) Call for family is good
2.) No one in their right mind would send up a Pokemon with Cession crystal attached when you have Pachi up.
But I guess I'm beeing too harsh on it.

Them not playing down a tool at all is... bad? If I prevent them from playing it, then I don't have to deal with it, meaning I don't need Windstorm as much to deal with silly Windstorm VS Cess Crystal battles. I'll take that over Tauros's power anyday.

I'm just saying, they probably won't play a tool if Pachi can just kick it out next turn.
What someone is more likely to do is KO Pachi then play the tool. But as I have no experience with Pach, I do need the advice.

PS -I have updated the article.

Smeargle (Secret Wonders)
Smeargle is a good Pokemon, sometimes found in decks that gathers lots of energy.
What makes Smeargle good? The first attack, color pick. For no energy cost, you can search your deck for up to 3 basic energy cards. This is very useful for getting the energies.
Trace, Smeargle's second attack, is pretty good as well. For only 1 energy, you may flip a coin, if heads, choose one of your opponents benched Pokemon's attacks. This attack copies everything except the energy cost! So it's also good for after it's served it's original purpose (no names mentioned, Pachirisu). With 70 HP and only +10 weakness, Smeargle will defiantly have time to use trace. The joy of trace is that the biggest advantage your opponent can get if you leave the opener up too long is they can win by sniping. But with trace, that means Smeargle has a 50% chance of sniping back, if there isn't a better move available.

I almost stoped reading after I read that, Smeargle has starter=no

Pachirisu (Great Encounters)
Pachirisu is a decent card. There's been lot's of arguments on it's merits and shortcomings.
Call for family is the attack that makes Pachi worth running. Call for family is pretty useful, until the bench is full. That’s the problem with it.
Smash shot is not to be relied on unless your opponent just happens to sent up a Pokemon with a Pokemon tool attached,
although odds are, unless it's a wierd senario, they wouldn't with Pachi around. It's still a good attack to have, but don't put Pachirisu in your desck because of smash shot alone.
It’s not an awful Pokemon to start with, but it’s not that great once you've got the bench full. You don't want to have Pachi up, doing 10 damage while your opponent either snipes or builds up the bench.
Tauros (Crystal Guardians) is an alternative.. It can fill the bench, has a lousy attack, but can get rid of stadiums.

If you want to fill you bench quickly this is the best starter!

Furret (Secret Wonders)
I have to say, this card is the best. Keen eye is another energyless attack, one that lets you search your deck for any two cards! This gives players a huge advantage, and makes Furret good in almost any deck. 90 HP is pretty good, but then again, you have to evolve Sentret to get Furret, which some decks can take advantage of.
Furret's second attack, baton pass is only a small bonus. Unlike cards such as the previously discussed Smeargle, Furret's keen eye is not the sort of attack that you only want to use once or twice. Baton pass' only real use is to move any energy you placed on Furret (for lack of a better candidate) to your other Pokemon, and to switch while doing damage. You should only place energy on Furret is no other Pokemon that need energy are in play.

Stage 1... EW

Chingling (Mysterious Treasures)
The only merit of Chingling is the free attack, inviting bell (search your deck for a supporter card). But Chingling's lousy 40 HP and +10 weakness means it won't be around long. The only reason you'd choose Chingling for it's roll is if the deck also runs Chimecho.

You are wasiting space with this, Stanler>Chingling

Mawile (Crystal Guardians)
Mawile is like Chingling, only better. Minning, a one attack let's you search your deck for a trainer card (any trainer card in PK to HP, and the ones that say "trainer" in DP+). What gives it the edge over Chingling (although to be fair, different decks may work better with Chingling), is the 60 HP, more than the short lived Chingling. The 2x weakness on this does mean that fire decks do have an edge.
Bite off isn't really that good. You need a metal energy and a colourless to do only 20 damage (30 more to exs, but let's face it, no one really uses them anymore).

Learn Your Rulings, MAWILE SEARCHS FOR ANY TRAINER, STADIUM, SUPPORTER, TOOL, TM FROM ANY SET. MAWILE DOES NOT RECONIGZE THAT STADIUMS AND SUPPORTRS HAVE BRANCHED OFF FROM TRAINERS

Holon's Castform (Holon Phantoms)
Here's a card that hasn't seen much use lately. However, it is a must in a delta species deck.
Holon's Castform is very useful because it can be an opening Pokemon or an energy. As an energy, it counts as two of anything, but you must return a basic energy from the Pokemon that you attached HC to, and put the energy in your hand.
As a Pokemon, Holon's Casform is no use in decks that don't run delta Pokemon. The attack lets you draw the same number of cards as the nuber of delta species Pokemon you have in play. Almost every single d deck uses them to some degree.

LOL, You got Jokes, You Got jokes

Spinda (Secret Wonders)
Dish out is Spinda's first move. For one colorless, you draw a card from the top and bottom of the deck.
The second move is good, if you can take advantage of it. Syncro punch does 10 damage, and 30 more if Spinda and the defending Pokemon have the same type of energy.

Id rather use Chingling, yes even Chingling the card I just bashed.
Id rather use something that will surely get me something I need rather then relying on Topdecking and in this case... Bottomdecking.

this thread is a hate crime against pachirisu :nonono:

seriously though, this was a waste of time reading this, and imo, it wouldnt help newer players if they read this. all of the new players would be brainwashed into thinking the best starter in the format(Pach) is the worst, and Tarous/Spinda/Smeargle are the elites

DELIdeliDELIdeliDELIdeliBIRDbird

gets you anything you want before your opponent even has a turn with the consistency of Riolu's wild kick! Then ice ball pwn the Magmars :)

The nest time you decide to write an article, talk to a more experienced player, and run it by them. Give them credit, and then post it. Posting an article that is based on your opinion and not general knowledge or thurough testing is going to recieve due critisizm. This way, not only will you be able to better fend of critizism, you will also have said player backing you and able to use their experience to help you out.
Honestly, I do appreciate (and I hope that those who read this thread do as well) the fact that you are trying to help out the general community, but doing so without help won't help many people, and might mislead them and make them worse off than before.

Pachi is gr8, especially because you can fill up your Bench in 2 moves, retreat for a stantler/ mawile u CFF for, and then have Pachi for late game if necessary. IMO, its in the T5 cards in the game.

Muscovy Level X: Don't feel bad about your thread getting bashed by others.

I posted a post like yours and went into detail about all the starters and why I felt Stantler was the best starter and how Pachi was stupid after turn 2. It was well written, and an admin put on the front page as an article. People took the same approach on this thread that they did on mine, and slammed me and my thread. After the 2nd page of slamming, I decided not to even look at the thread again.

It was the first instance in my entire time on this board I had ever been that turned off to even replying to others. The last time I checked, it was up to 5 pages. I can't even fathom the kind of responses I got in those other 3 pages.

People can be mean online, and make you feel really low, and inadequate. They can voice their opinions in such a way that makes you feel bad, and makes you feel like you are being put down, even if they don't mean to. The day and age when people could peacefully disagree or post experiences showing why they might disagree has passed, I guess.

So, don't feel so bad. You posted your opinion, and people disagreed and made it quite clear your opinion was wrong. Your opinion isn't wrong, and don't let anyone tell you it is. I know how easy it is to be turned off from posting again after a response like this, but please keep posting and getting your opinion out there. Community only grows with different opinions. The second everyone's opinion becomes the same, constructive discussion dies.

Thanks for posting, and I wish you best of luck with your next post.

On the topic of this thread, if someone doesn't have something to say other what someone else has already posted on this thread (mainly disagreeing with Pachirisu), then don't post. Post something constructive or don't post at all.

Okay, Muscovy Level X, you have a nice article. Prime is right (I think I was about the only person to agree with him), don't feel down on yourself, some people will defend cards/decks to the end. For exaple, someone may like G&G alot. Well, as soon as someone says that it's bad, or that there's a counter to it or something, thet'll disagree, and say that G&G is really good, and it can beat your counter. It is the same thing here. Some people just love Pachi, and they WILL defend it. I, for one, think this is a great article, but I do agree with V for Vendetta too. I think it's almost ready/ready to go to the front page, even if people will disagree with me.

Helping normally goes against my code of ethics, but if you insist prime.

Pachirisu (Great Encounters)
Most veritile starter in the format, which may sound odd to many, because he really only does one thing. He grabs basics. But why is that better than Stantler searching for Mentor, when he can then grab celio and be more useful later? Two reasons:

1. Claydol. Claydol's power is ridiculously good for setting up, and the fact that you can use Pacharisu to get Baltoy and Claydol T2 to start drawing and setting up. The one turn earlier you can get drawing and setup makes all the difference.

2. He is unstopable. If you use Stantler to setup, you will probably be using him for several turns before you setup, meaning a single wager will throw you off. A single wager then a Plox means game over. Pacharisu can setup Claydol T2, allowing you a few precious turns to be able to face down this beast and set yourself up.

Speed and Claydol is why he is the best.
I'll get to the others later.
