Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

OREGON State Championships - March 13, 2010 (NEW Info)

Question: I understand that there'll be a side DS tourney. Does this go hand in hand with the TCG tourney? Will they be separate events so that we can participate in both?
Yes, we will schedule the DS side event so that you can play in the TCG State Championships and the DS as well. The DS tournament will start during the lunch break, then additional rounds will be played between rounds of the main event.

any idea what format the ds torny will be in? 9/10 or 8/9?

Yes Big Daddy, will we be playing by the 2010 VGC rules, or the 2009 rules? (2 legends per team/no legends) DS that is...

Will we be playing on those VGC boxes? If we play on our own DS machines, Rotom formes and Giratina-O forme will be supported on the Platinum carts, not so the Diamond/Pearl carts.

It will be tough playing by all the 2010 VGC rules, since they require that you use HeartGold or SoulSilver carts that autolevel your Pokemon down to lvl 50, and HG/SS doesn't go on sale in the US until the day after Oregon States.

Does that meen that we can't use pokemon over Lv 50 just for this one event? (I'm still training my team so this would be nice to know) Thank You

^What PokeMATHter said. So to sum it all up:
  • The Pokemon Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Manaphy, Darkari, Shaymin, and Arceus all all BANNED.
  • Note: Tyranitar will also be banned at States due to the fact that Pupitar does not evolve until Lv.55 and we won't have HGSS yet.
  • you may use no more then 2 of the following Pokemon: Mewtwo, Ho-oh, Lugia, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina
  • 4 Pokemon - no two of the same species
  • No duplicate held items
  • the item "SOUL DEW" is banned
  • Lv.50's
  • Double Battles
  • Battles ending in a Draw with Explosion, Self Destruct, or Destiny Bond will result in a loss for the user of said attacks
  • Battles ending in a Draw due to the item "Life Orb" or recoil attacks like "Brave Bird" will go to a 1 on 1 Sudden Death. (Deposit the other 3 Pokemon of you team in the PC)
  • NO HACKED POKEMON! (I will check if I sense anything suspicious)

So I think that covers everything in a nutshell. If there are anymore question please post.

Sorry, they have to be Lv.50's. You could use Pokemon under lv.50 but it's not recommended. Hope all this info helps.

CyberMan, is Platinum required?

Platinum supports the Giratina-O and Rotom Forme sprites, D/P does not. Will we be playing each other on our own DS units?

Can we start using pokemon over Lv 50 once HG/SS comes out? (2nd week of states)

Yeah. At Regionals if you're playing with HGSS you may use pokemon over lv.50 since we'll have the level down feature.

Cyberman, huh that's a new nickname.

Anyway, the DS tournament is not limited to just Platinum. Anyone can play with Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. No Japanese copies of HG or SS will be permitted. Obviously if you wish to battle with the Rotom or Giratina forms, you must use platinum. Everyone will be playing with his or her own DS game.

Also, in my previous post I forgot to mention: you may use up to 2 of the following pokemon on you team: Mewtwo, Ho-oh, Lugia, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.

I also just realized I accidentally stated that Mewtwo was banned in my previous post when it's actally MEW who is banned. Just fixed that. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

If you have a question about the DS tournament at the Washignton State Championship, you should post on that thread. The organizers of the Washignton tournament are not the same as the organizers of the Oregon tournament, and may have different rules.

Well if I can get a ds game by states, I might just do ds for the fun of it.
I might just have a new team relick sd to play at states.
But I'll probably play the deck I made a month ago.

... will there be a shop open like last year?
OH YES THERE WILL!!!

We just had a meeting where momma_june showed off the items she has been purchasing for the store over the last year. She scours eBay for the most amazing Pokemon items and she has outdone herself this year. We have dice, deck boxes, singles and of course we will have LOTS of boosters and theme decks from Platinum on through HeartGold SoulSilver. The only problem is that some items are very limited in quantity, so you will want to make the Pokemon Store one of your first stops after you get registered.

Everyone knows Cyberman! They had a cartoon and everything for you... your theme song was something like, "Cyberman, Cyberman, does what ever a Cyber can..."

Red tights, oh the humanity...

Anyway, I read up on the DS rules, but I have one last question: No HG/SS carts, but what about HG/SS moves? Say I played my Japanese cart and traded a 'mon over to my US Diamond, would that be allowed?

May I point out the Texas thread was posted 1/17, and this one 2/10? Not to mention we have a second thread, let me go find that one and nab stats for it too.
