I dont get what you're trying to say, you mean bribing people to drop out?

In other words, don't bribe people to opt out. That's a big no-no. Now asking them to not go if they know they can't make it, that's fine. Just can't go beyond that.

if they dont opt out and dont go, it goes to grinder, but if they opt out, it gets passed down. also, according to my friend, this is the only person I know of not going:
Steve W.[around #20, from Oregon].

You should talk to him and tell him to opt out and to do so immediately. It shows GREAT SOTG to do so. By opting out you give another player who is just as deserving and who worked hard ALL year to make it. I would suggest that you try get him to opt out so that someone can else who worked hard can make it. Right now the final spot and first out is separated by an insane .01 of a point.

Since this came up last year I will say it again. Asking People to opt out of the rankings who can't/aren't going is a fair request. But by no means are you allowed to compensate them or attempt to compensate them in anyway. Please do not even attempt to do this on this thread. POP didn't like this last year and I doubt it would go over well this year.

Yes, make sure that you don't give any compensation, that would be bad and could have TPCi do something like a ban for doing so. Not a good idea. :nonono:

My kid opted out very early last year. His invitation didn't trickle down. Those spots for people who opted out last year were added to the grinder, so I was told.

They trickle, whoever told you that was wrong as if they didn't then the European threads about opting out would be totally pointless.

That person who is sitting in the "first out" place is him

But what if they opt out thinking they can't attend, and then after invites are sent out they find a means and they're left high and dry despite their achievements?

Don't opt out! Give them to the grinder! If you're not in the top X, then you don't deserve to go to worlds! The people who X-0 Grinder deserve it.

Except that not all unused invites go to the grinder. Unused invites have been lost in the past.

I can't agree wit h that, If you opt out you give a great chance to someone who had a great season. If I for any reason ever couldn't not go and was in an invite spot, I would 100% opt out even if the person in the final spot was someone I didn't like because I would feel that they should get an chance as that had a great season as well but were unlucky and ended up being the first one out. I maybe in the minority, but I am pretty sure most of the people in Europe would agree as that is EXACTLY what they do. It is really disappoint that they can do this but when it comes to us we can't. I believe at least 2 people last year didn't use their invite and that was a shame to the two people in the invites that could of used them. Granted we maybe got two more invites in the Grinder, but that isn't the point. :frown:

What about the people who were on the bubble last year?
What about people who missed a trickle down at nationals?
Why does a person on the bubble deserve a trickle down invite if they didn't really earn it? They merely got it because they were lucky and on the bubble?

I don't see why it's important to not opt for US players. Europe is a different story and different beast entirely, with different problems. This is strictly about the US.

I added ten wrong. It was 139 ha ha.

80 national invites+51 rating invites+5 from t4(1 age up) and 4 from LCQ is 140 exactly.

okay, so 140+zero or 140+minus_one ( I was close)

FWIW because the number is above 128 I expect more than 4 grinder places but only 4 are guaranteed. A 140 to 150 player worlds seems like a good number space permitting. (see graph in signature ;) )

The OP is asking people who EARNED a rating invite to not opt so that people who DID NOT EARN a rating invite can receive one.

I am the only one with a problem with this sort of thing?

err well maybe not the only one. But I have no issue with going NOIR allowing the next player in the ratings list a shot at worlds, I'm not alone so would hazard that there are lots who have no issue with the practice. If POP were unhappy I expect they would have signaled such or even outlawed the practice.
