Pokebeach graphic offensive

I am extremely upset with Pokebeach. The graphic that they have of 3 pokemon brutally attacking a girl is very disturbing. I went to what I thought was a safe site for my 5 year old daughter to go with me to look for new Pokemon News. She was upset at the graphic and asked me why would they show Pokemon hurting that Girl. As soon as I looked at it and noticed the blood dipping down her arm from the Totodile bite I turned off the web page.

This unfortunately is not a joke, I usually visit Pokebeach 3-5 times a week and often my daughter like to go to the site with me as she likes the pictures of Pokemon, I have always defended WaterPokemon Master from his critics before because of the high quality of the information that he provided, But this graphic is in such poor taste, and the fact that he chose it to be his banner headline on his main page. I am not sure that I ever want to go back to Pokebeach ever again, I certainly can not let my daughter go to that site if the will continue to have such offensive graphics like the one displayed today on the site.

WaterPokemon Master you should be ashamed of yourself you know that children access your site, and having violent images in a website that you know is attractive to young children is something that I wrongly assumed that a College age individual would well be aware of, Obviously you have little respect for the visitors to your site. Pokemon is geared to the younger set. And there is enough violence and ugliness in this world without having it brought into Pokemon. Please pull that graphic down before other young children become upset by it.

While I award it a solid 4.5 o_O out of 5, there's no point in complaining here about it. The 'gym has nothing to do with the 'beach. I would suggest either posting something about it on the forum at the beach, or emailing WPM about it.

I know that he comes to the gym regularly, and at least thoes who know him will inform him of this Post. Whenever there is a Pokebeach releated thread on the Gym it never takes him too long to respond.

If Pokebeach was supposed to be an adult or even a teen site I would not complane. But I am sure my 5 year old is not the only young child you likes to look at Pokemon Pictures online with his or her mother or father. Now I cant let her view that site anymore.

Jand, you have failed to read what WPM posted,

The artwork in the new banner above has been drawn by Xous, our favorite site artist! We hope you like it! Lugia is a reference to a certain monster Lapras is based off, Ho-Oh's pose comes from the first episode of the show, and HGSS girl is under attack because we miss Kris' old design (I added the blood at the last minute; hope no one is offended).
And i mean come on. grow up. take it to him.

It is a well known fact that anyone in USA can find anything offensive. Like, many children cartoons are censored because they show a childs bare bottom, no clothes! Morally, that is wrong, childrne should were clothes to all times!

Think about pokemon for a second, they fight. They fight to the death (or fainted as they call it), i think pokemon is brutal. Hmm, i cant see that being a childrens show..

I don't think it's too big of a deal, but I understand the concern. I don't have a child so I guess I can't fully understand the severity of the situation, though.

Good luck with everything. Hopefully you and your daughter can still enjoy PokeBeach as much as possible. :D

Then why is the word "blood" in the picture's filename?

Not only that, but WPM said it himself...

The artwork in the new banner above has been drawn by Xous, our favorite site artist! We hope you like it! Xous had to go through a lot of trouble translating my terrible artwork into a recognizable image, as you can see to the right. Lugia is a reference to a certain monster Lapras is based off, Ho-Oh's pose comes from the first episode of the show, and HGSS girl is under attack because we miss Kris' old design (I added the blood at the last minute; hope no one is offended). Think you can draw better than Xous? Well, you may be able to show off your skills soon...

But honestly I don't think it should be a big deal. =/

JPS...

I actually give you credit for getting off of the site with your daughter if she could not "handle" the banner.

While my kids thought it was "cool" and took it as a homage to the PETM trainer (which has been mentioned here as well).

If you don't like the site, don't go.

I will give Jon credit for having extremely entertaining banners over the years. The artwork is really cool.

This one, may not be for everyone, but still, a cool banner.

We all have to make choices with respect to what our kids see, and do on the internet.

The issue is audience.

Where a certain "Lafonte" board may have the best deck help, and discussion anywhere in the world, along with the Underground, and a few others, I wouldn't let my 13 year old view THOSE sites, because they are geared for a teenage set.

That's probably the trouble you are going to have with Jon. He is not trying to make his site Disney, and acceptable for 5-7 year olds. He is trying to attract the 12+ crowd, which likes some edge from time to time. He may lose you, but he will retain his following I am sure.

I like them though.

I would say that the images at the top of PokeBeach are pretty good. The current one is just slightly less good than average.

I am extremely upset with Pokebeach.
Congratulations, you've become a victim. It's fun isn't it?

Given that WPM has been leaking the contents of sets for a long time, despite the fact people have objected to it, and the complaining didn't get him to change his mind, I don't think anything you say is going to get him to change his website. Maybe offer him some money, or become an advertiser on his site.

The graphic that they have of 3 pokemon brutally attacking a girl is very disturbing.
Just ask people to look at the image themsevles. If you think that image is brutal, you have lived a very sheltered life.

I went to what I thought was a safe site for my 5 year old daughter to go with me to look for new Pokemon News. She was upset at the graphic and asked me why would they show Pokemon hurting that Girl.
Pokebeach changes the image at the top from time to time, and perhaps this was a comedic change of pace.

Wow, doesn't take much to change your mind about a website, does it?

What I don't get, is why someone who's open-minded enough to play Pokemon, can become a wet blanket. I guess this just goes to show the destructive effect of having children; having children can make people narrow.

WaterPokemon Master you should be ashamed of yourself you know that children access your site, and having violent images in a website that you know is attractive to young children is something that I wrongly assumed that a College age individual would well be aware of, Obviously you have little respect for the visitors to your site.
Maybe he didn't build the website for you.

Pokemon is geared to the younger set. And there is enough violence and ugliness in this world without having it brought into Pokemon. Please pull that graphic down before other young children become upset by it.
A relatively benign scene of comedic violence. That doesn't happen at all on the Pokémon TV show, does it?

No one's ever died in Pokemon either...

You know you're wrong when even Pokegym Mods tell you that you shouldnt be offended so easily and its no big deal ;D

[I couldnt stand the temptation to post this, itrs all good fun, im sorry :p)

*shrugs*

I dunno how anyone who has spent more than 30 seconds on the internet can look at THAT image and get offended.

You guys are all terrible, I wouldn't want my kid thinking that pokemon attack people, she'll get some crazy idea about a scyther. I agree with you JandPDS it's completely unnecessary for him to include the blood in the picture, the artist didn't have it in there originally but he made him add it. When you guys get bitten/mauled by a dog please take a picture so I can photoshop it to look like mightyena and post it as the beach's banner.

Maybe it's not appropriate but come on, BRUTAL? If you think that's brutal then... I can't really say anything else. You don't want to visit Pokebeach ever again just because of that little picture? Come on, there are a lot more offensive and disturbing pictures there. My five year old brother saw it and he wasn't scared or disturbed at all. The stories in the news are more disturbing that that picture...

It's a funny picture. If I remember correctly, there's worse in the TV show (or at least used to be) and that was about as G rated as you could possibly get.

Heck, you can find more violence in SpongeBob. :p

I think everyone is taking this a bit out of hand. From what I understood of JandPDS' post, he wasn't saying that it was the most terrible image on the entire internet, but rather that he would not want to let his daughter look at the image, and he thinks it's irresponsible for PokeBeach to put up such an image when it's a website that is going to attracted a lot of children.

If Pokebeach was supposed to be an adult or even a teen site I would not complane. But I am sure my 5 year old is not the only young child you likes to look at Pokemon Pictures online with his or her mother or father. Now I cant let her view that site anymore.

It's totally within his rights as a parent to not want his child to view an image or a website, and a lot of people here are acting like he's condemning PokeBeach for a terrible image. If there was an image on a site that my child went to that I didn't want them to see, I would stop going to that site too. I don't think that's unfair at all.
