Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Pokemon: Elemental Legacies: Olemenun Academy

I think he was the one who battled the Elite Four at the beginning of the Academy series, and Bobby thought he was good.

Chapter 9

"Give it up, Matthew!" Vampyro taunted as he dodged a blow from Matt's staff. "You can't beat me!"
"I beg to differ." Matt replied as he swung at Vampyro again. Vampyro went to block the attack with one of his shuriken, but it was a feint. Matt disappeared, reappearing behind Vampyro and delivering a strike to the back of the Pokemon's skull. Vampyro began to plummet toward the lava, but quickly regained his balance with the help of his wings.
"That's not going to work as long as I have wings!" Vampyro exclaimed.
"Yes...I'll have to do something about those." Matt responded. He fell toward Vampyro, who instinctively dodged the vertical attack. Matt kicked the air, changing his descent into an ascent, much to Vampyro's surprise. The vampire Pokemon was caught off guard, and his wings were subjected to a thorough beating from Matt's staff. Vampyro attempted to flee upward, but Bobby was expecting this. A rain of fiery arrows met Vampyro as he passed the ledge, and several of the projectiles peirced his leathery wings.
"Gahh!" Vampyro screamed in pain as he began to fall toward the liquid fire once again. Matt jumped up, landing on the cliff where Bobby, Elissa, and Jeremy stood.
"Is he...?" Elissa looked over the edge of the cliff to see Vampyro falling toward the lava.
"Fools!" Vampyro shouted. His wings began to flap, and a bright light flashed around them. In an instant, the wounds from Bobby's arrows were healed. Vampyro did not use his newly repaired wings to fly upward, though, instead, he continued to descend into the pit of lava.
"What's he doing?!" Matt wondered. Unexpectedly, Vampyro landed on his feet, as if the lava was solid concrete.
"I control this volcano!" Vampyro announced. "It cannot kill me!" He raised his arms, and pillars of lava shot up all around him. Draconic heads formed at the top of these pillars, and they began to change direction randomly, as if they had free will. The pillars aimed themselves at the humans, and charged forward with incredible speed.
"I don't think so!" Bobby exclaimed, raising his staff. A shield of fire formed in front of the group, and the lava beasts hit it and disappeared. As the fire shield faded, Matt leaped off of the ledge, meeting Vampyro's shuriken with his staff. The two humanoids clashed in midair for several minutes, but Matt was eventually knocked back onto the cliff.
"Hehehe..." Vampyro began to laugh. "It looks like you're getting tired, Matthew!"
"I don't know what you're talking about." Matt replied, but his breath had grown heavy. He had been battling for at least an hour, and he was exhausted.
"Mortality has that drawback," Vampyro mocked, "But I don't! Now...die!" He dashed toward Matt, throwing his shuriken as he flew. Bobby and Elissa both attempted to shield Matt, but the shuriken suddenly changed course and knocked their staves out of their hands. The shuriken were moving so fast that they returned back to Vampyro as he approached Matt, giving him weapons with which to kill the exhausted human.
Clang!
Matt looked up to see a tall figure clad in white and blue. The obviously female humanoid had pale skin, flowing blonde hair, and beautiful blue eyes, and wore white shoes and gloves, a blue cape, a thin blue headband, and magnificent blue and white torso armor. Two shining blue wings with white edges extended from the figure's back, and in its hands it held a pair of icy white chakrams resembling snowflakes. The icy chakrams had blocked Vampyro's fiery shuriken attack, and had protected Matt.
"...You're...!" Matt was speechless.
"Long time no see, Vampyro." The vampire of light said in a feminine voice.
"Nosfrostu...what a pleasant surprise." Vampyro said sarcastically.
"Always the gentleman." Nosfrostu responded in an equally sarcastic tone. She waved her arm, flinging Vampyro away. She flapped her wings and followed him through the air, launching a barrage of ice attacks at the fiery vampire. He quickly raised a barrier of fire, blocking the icy assault. When the fiery wall fell, he was surprised to see that Nosfrostu was already right in front of him. The female vampire slashed at him with her chakrams, tearing up his seemingly impenetrable torso armor.
"What?!" Vampyro was incredibly surprised at the other vampire's power. With another slash of her chakrams, he was sent flying toward the lava much faster than he had when Matt had hit him.
"If he falls into the lava, he'll just get stronger!" Jeremy informed Nosfrostu, but the ice vampire was already aware of this. She rose her chakrams into the air and began to glow, and a blizzard began to storm within the volcano. In a matter of seconds, the lava at the bottom of the volcano was completely frozen over.
"How did she...?!" Vampyro wondered as he continued to plummet toward the ice below. He attempted to flap his wings in order to stop his fall, but they too had been frozen by the blizzard.
"I'm not the same weakling I was before!" Nosfrostu shouted as she dove down, pursuing her crippled counterpart. Unable to fly, Vampyro hit the ice with incredible force, doing severe damage to the vampire Pokemon. This wasn't enough, though; Nosfrostu continued to descend toward her target, launching her chakrams. The sharp weapons went all the way through Vampyro's skin and stuck to the ice below, but the vampire did not bleed. Instead, ice began to spread from the chakrams, and within seconds, the fiery vampire was completely frozen in a block of ice. Nosfrostu waved her hands, and her weapons flew back up to her.
"Holy crap!" Jeremy gasped out of pure awe.
"That oughta take care of him." Nosfrostu declared triumphantly. She flew over to the ledge where the humans stood and landed, brushing off her clothes.
"You're...the vampire of light!" Matt exclaimed.
"Yes, I am," The vampire Pokemon replied politely, "My name is Nosfrostu. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
"I-I'm Matt." Matt struggled to overcome speechlessness, as he was still amazed by the female vampire's performance.
"I'm Bobby." Bobby introduced himself.
"My name is Elissa." Elissa added.
"Jeremy's the name." Jeremy concluded.
"It's very nice to meet you all," Nosfrostu continued, "I'm sorry I couldn't get here faster."
"You mean you knew about this?" Elissa inquired.
"I saw the eruption," Nosfrostu explained, "I knew it had to be Vampyro's power."
"Forgive me if I sound ungrateful, I'm not," Matt interjected, "But why is this the first time I've seen you?! Why haven't you appeared to defeat Vampyro before?!" As he spoke, Matt's voice became angrier and angrier.
"Matt..." Elissa attempted to interrupt him, but she could not.
"Why did you wait until after she was dead?! Why did you let him kill her?!"
"Matt!" Bobby shouted, placing a hand on his friend's shoulder as to try and calm him down. Matt violently shook his friend's hand off, and began to walk toward Nosfrostu, his staff at his side.
"Your anger is understandable," Nosfrostu said calmly, "You lost your wife to that fiend. Believe me, I know what the pain of loss is like." The chakram in her right hand disappeared, and she placed her open palm on Matt's forehead. A chilly blue glow radiated from her hand, and the anger appeared to fade from Matt's expression completely. He stepped back and began to wobble, almost falling down.
"How...how could you possibly know what this feels like?" Matt wondered, but he now spoke in a much calmer tone.
"I...lost my brother to that darkness..." Nosfrostu explained, a pained look on her face.
"I'm sorry..." Elissa instinctively responded.
"No...you do not need to be," Nosfrostu replied, "It was a long time ago."
"But...you're a vampire," Jeremy thought aloud, "So wouldn't your brother have been a vampire, too? Can a vampire be killed by another vampire?" Nosfrostu merely smiled a weak smile, then changed the subject.
"So...let's get out of here, shall we?" She suggested. Bobby nodded his head, and the four trainers sent out their flying Pokemon. The group flew out through the top of the volcano, and began to fly toward the Sevorg Research Institute.
"Hold on. Let me take care of one thing first." Nosfrostu requested. She turned back to face the volcano, and her hands began to glow light blue. Beams of ice shot from them, aimed at the mouth of the fiery mountain. Ice began to cover the large opening, and within minutes, the hole was completely sealed off by the solidified water.
"Alright. Let's go." Nosfrostu decided, turning back toward the group as they continued to fly back to the research institute.

The group approached the old, rusty, four-story building in the corner of Mizaqua City, recalling their flying Pokemon as they landed. The old Team Rocket Headquarters had never been much of a spectacle, and the years of disuse hadn't done it any favors. The meager accommodations had been enough for the very small Rocket army, though, as its numbers had never exceeded a hundred until Michael took over the organization. The shabby, rusting metal door was unlocked, and the group entered the abandoned building. The inside of the building was as unimpressive, if not more so, than the outside; the first floor was completely empty. There was no furniture at all, and the wall and ceiling alike had been stripped bare. Through the holes between the brown metal rafters above, the boys could see all the way up to the roof, meaning that the condition of the other floors wasn't much better.
"At least the first floor actually has a floor." Hector commented. A chill wind blew through the multitude of large, gaping holes in the building's sides, freezing the five trainers to the bone.
"We can't sleep in here! We'll freeze to death!" Nicholas exclaimed.
"Not if my fire Pokemon have anything to say about it. Houndour, Misteam, let's get a fire going!" Stephen threw two of his Pokeballs into the air, releasing his two fire type Pokemon. Responding to the cold, Houndour instinctively gathered scraps of rusted metal and other various materials from the floor, and formed them into a pile in the center of the barren room. Then, both fire Pokemon let out Ember attacks, igniting the makeshift materials in a blaze of flame.
"Well, if it'll keep us warm through the night...help them out, Ponyta!" Nicholas threw a Pokeball of his own into the air, and from it came the white-furred horse with a fiery mane. Ponyta joined Stephen's Pokemon, and together, the triad created a large fire that burned intensely, heating the entire room.
"What if someone sees the smoke?" Geraldo realized. "They'll find us!"
"Nothing my Misteam can't take care of," Stephen replied, pointing to the small serpentine Pokemon, "Observe." Misteam opened its mouth and began inhaling, sucking in all of the black smoke produced by the fire. It waved its tail and smiled contently, as if it had just consumed food or beverage.
"Misteam's diet consists mainly of smoke and steam," Stephen explained, "And they can't get enough of it. Misteam should be able to keep any smoke from escaping at all tonight."
"That takes care of the smoke..." Geraldo thought aloud, "But what about the glow? There are holes in the walls, people might be able to see the fire!"
"Geraldo, m'boy, you worry too much." Hector responded. He threw Pupitar's Pokeball into the air, releasing the blue pupa Pokemon. It began to shake furiously, and mud began to seep through the cracks in the floor tiles. The mud thoroughly covered each and every hole in the walls, hiding the fire's glow and helping to prevent the heat of the flame from escaping at the same time.
"Well then, let's get some shuteye, shall we?" Hector suggested. The rest of the group agreed, and each of them went to their own space on the floor, none of them too far from the fire in the center of the room. The boys made themselves as comfortable as they could under the meager conditions of the abandoned building, and one by one, they drifted off to sleep. Except for one. Once he was sure that the other trainers were asleep, Stephen rose from the floor, brushing himself off. Houndour and Ponyta had dozed off, their fire-making duty complete. Misteam continued to consume the smoke that billowed from the fire, and didn't know or care why its master was awake. Stephen carefully made his way to the staircase at the other side of the building, taking it to the second floor. He carefully made his way across the uncovered rafters that were once covered by floor tiles, taking yet another flight of stairs to the third floor. He once again repeated the process of walking across the rafters, but this time, he was met by a spiral staircase instead of a normal one. It was a four-story building, but there had never been a fourth floor, instead, the fourth story was merely a tall spiral staircase in the center of the building. The trainer carefully walked up the creaking staircase, trying not to make a noise that would wake his comrades. Slowly and quietly, he made his way to the top of the spiral staircase and opened the door that seemed like it was waiting for him and only him. The familiar chill breeze hit him as he walked out onto the roof, closing the door behind him. The roof was just as plain as the rest of the building; nothing but a flat block of concrete, save for the door that led to the stairs. The youth threw a Pokeball into the air, releasing the bird Pokemon with pitch-black feathers. Nightture cawed as it opened its wings, stretching after being in its cramped Pokeball for so long.
"So what do you think, Nightture?" Stephen asked the bird Pokemon. "Is Michael in the Ice Caverns, or the Chasm Mountains?" Nightture merely cawed in response, flapping its wings as it perched on the boy's shoulder. It looked to the southeast and let out another caw, but this time, the glowing purple feathers on its head stood upright.
"Yes...you can feel it, can't you?" Stephen inquired rhetorically. "There are so few of your kind left in the world that you can sense your brethren, even from this far away. You can sense Michael's Duskarrion...and it's in the Chasm Mountains. Thank you, Nightture." He raised his Pokeball, returning the dark type bird to the red and white sphere.

"Did you have a good night's sleep, sir?" The red-haired nurse behind the Pokemon Center counter asked Drake as he rode the elevator downstairs.
"Yes, I did, thank you." Drake replied. He began to walk toward the door, but quickly remember why he had chosen to stay in Mizaqua City in the first place. "By the way, miss, you wouldn't happen to know how I could get transport to Sparkiban City from here, would you?"
"Sparkiban? I'm afraid not," The nurse answered, "But one of the stops on our daily Skarlord Tour of Olemenun is Evolution City, and that's only a short walk from Sparkiban!"
"Awesome! When does today's tour leave?" Drake asked.
"In about ten minutes," The nurse replied after looking at her watch, "And they meet in front of the Mizaqua Gym."
"Thank you!" Drake exclaimed, waving as he ran out the door.

The group of students and teachers was gathered around a very large table in the Pokemon Center, and all sorts of plates and dishes filled the table. On most of the plates, nothing but scraps remained, as the majority of the group had finished their meal.
"Alright, everyone's finished with breakfast. Can we get going now?" Mr. Pennington was impatient, as he did not want the thieves to get too far.
"Relax, Mr. Pennington," Mrs. Searle responded as she hung up her cell phone, "Procter and his group are already in Mizaqua City. They want us to fly straight across the Ring Sea and check the cities and towns of the Inner Ring while they check the Outer Ring."
"Then let's get going already!" Mr. Pennington was not satisfied with what Mrs. Searle, and was still impatient.
"He also told us to stay in Evolution City a little longer." Mrs. Searle continued.
"What? Why?!" Mr. Pennington wondered.
"We're to find someone here and ask them to join in our little quest." Mrs. Searle replied.
"Who?" Mr. Pennington questioned.
"Mr. Richard's brother," Mrs. Searle answered, "The Gym Leader of Evolution City!"

"Alright, see, you just stick the hairpin in the lock..." The black-clad grunt with a red R on his chest explained to the other two grunts, "And bam! You're in!" The lock to the Pokemon Gym door fell off, and the door slowly opened.
"Hey, I don't think we should be doing this..." One of the other grunts, slightly overweight, commented. "If any of the higher-ups find out about this, we'll be fired for sure!"
"Then they won't find out about it!" The first grunt responded as the three low-level members of Team Rocket snuck into the building. "Now...where do you suppose he keeps the Pokemon?" They crept through the Gym; with the first grunt looking for Pokeballs and the other two looking out for people.
"Jackpot!" The first grunt exclaimed as he opened a door in the back of the room. Inside the door was a closet, and the closet was filled with shelves of Pokeballs.
"You guys are aware that Team Rocket is a good organization now, right?" A voice came from the other side of the Gym, "Or did you not get that memo fifteen years ago?" The three grunts slowly turned around to see a twenty-five year old man with long, shaggy blonde hair and a short goatee. In front of him stood Leafeon, Flareon, and Jolteon, the Eevee evolutions of the grass, fire, and lightning elements respectively.
"Crap! It's him!" The overweight grunt shouted.
"It's Dave!" The third grunt, a female, exclaimed.
"Keep your cool!" The first grunt ordered his teammates. "We can beat him! Just think of him as any ordinary trainer!" He threw a Pokeball into the air to reveal Hazough, the mustard-yellow gas Pokemon. His fellow grunts followed suit, sending out Toxabbit, the rabbit covered in purple poison spores, and Golbat, the blue and purple bat Pokemon.
"But you see, the problem with that logic," Dave responded, "Is that I'm not any ordinary trainer." He extended his hand, and his three Eevee evolutions leaped into the air, lunging toward Team Rocket's Pokemon. One Giga Drain, Fire Fang, and Thunder Fang later, Team Rocket's Pokemon were defeated.
"Wha...how did he?!" For some reason, the overconfident Rocket grunt was actually surprised.
"You wait until your boss hears about this!" Dave exclaimed as the grunts disappeared with a smoke bomb. "My brother is friends with Michael!"
"Is he now?" Mrs. Searle asked as the group of teachers and students made their way into the Gym.
"Huh?" Dave turned around to see the group gathering behind him. "What is this, a field trip, or something?"
"Hah! If only!" Mr. Pennington laughed, still impatiently wanting to leave Evolution City.
"Actually...we're wondering if you could help us with something," Mrs. Searle explained, "We're your brother's fellow staff members, and these are some of our students."
"Yeah, I guessed that much." Dave responded.
"Well, we're currently pursuing a group of students that broke into Olemenun Academy and stole the black staff that was on display there." Mrs. Searle continued.
"They stole the black staff?!" Dave questioned in disbelief. "No way!"
"Unfortunately, it's true. We're trying to find them and stop them before...well..."
"Before it activates." David finished Mrs. Searle's sentence. "Are my brother and my sister-in-law searching for them as well?"
"Yes," Mrs. Searle answered, "Their group split up from us, so we can cover more ground."
"Because you know that if one of those kids gets the staff to activate..."
"We're all aware of the consequences, Mr. Richard." Mr. Pennington interjected. "And we know that it will take another staff wielder to stop them."
"Hmm..." Dave rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Yes. I'll go with you. You'll need all the help you can get."
"What about your Gym?" Emily wondered.
"I'll leave it in the hands of my Gym Trainers," Dave decided, "They're plenty capable."
"Alright then. Can we finally go?" Mr. Pennington asked, still impatient.
"Yeah. Let's go." Mrs. Searle agreed.

"Wow, that was awesome." Drake thought aloud as the flock of mounted Skarlord landed atop a large rooftop in Evolution City. "Well, this is my stop." He dismounted the Skarlord that he had been riding, and waved goodbye to the tour guide. He walked over to the edge of the single-story building and jumped, landing perfectly on his feet. Several concerned members of the tour group ran over to the edge of the building, but upon seeing that he was fine, they just called him a 'crazy kid'. The boy grinned, taking the phrase as a compliment. He began to walk toward the city's south exit, but he was distracted by a group of people gathered outside of the gym. He had defeated the Gym Leader, Dave, in a Pokemon battle a few years ago, and was curious to see if the man remembered him.
"Hey!" He shouted, waving his arms wildly as he ran toward the group.
"Who is this clown?" Mr. Pennington wondered as the group watched the boy approaching them. "Anyone know?"
"Hey! Dave! Remember me?" Drake asked as he approached the group.
"Uh...no, I can't say that I do. I'm sorry, I get a lot of challengers..." Dave apologized, scratching the back of his head.
"Ah, don't worry about it." Drake responded with a slight laugh. "I'm just on my way to Sparkiban City, and I thought I'd stop by and see how you're doing."
"Well, I was just about to leave, actually..." Dave replied.
"Hey, your face looks familiar," Mr. Lawson realized, "Do you go to Olemenun Academy?"
"As of next Monday!" Drake answered.
"Ah, that's right! You're the kid that the champion recommended!" Mr. Lawson recalled. In addition to being head of the Social Studies department, Mr. Lawson was responsible for accepting and declining applications to Olemenun Academy.
"Yep. So I guess I'll probably see some of you Monday, then!"
"I wouldn't count on it." Mr. Pennington responded, rolling his eyes.
"What? Why not?" Drake wondered.
"Good going, Jay." Mrs. Searle jabbed Mr. Pennington with her elbow, as the teachers' absence was not something that the new student needed to know about.
"Well, hold on, maybe this kid could help us," Mr. Lawson suggested, "After all, he must be good if the leage champion recommended him."
"Fine," Mrs. Searle agreed, "But if Procter gets mad at one of us for this, it's going to be you."
"Alright, alright." Mr. Lawson replied with a chuckle, as he didn't foresee Procter getting mad about it. Drake stared at them blankly, awaiting an explanation.
"Alright, kid," Mr. Lawson began, "Basically, we're chasing some students that stole something from the school."
"And it takes this many people to chase them?" Drake questioned. "What'd they steal, your entire trophy case, or something?"
"If only." Mr. Pennington commented sarcastically.
"It was something very important," Mrs. Searle answered after giving Mr. Pennington a glare, "And we need this many people in case we need to defeat those students in a Pokemon battle."
"If it's Pokemon battles you need help with, I'm your guy," Drake responded, "I beat five of the six members of the Elite 4!"
"Good, good, fine. We'll take the boy with us. Now can we please get going?!" Mr. Pennington was on the verge of snapping completely, he had been ready to go for over an hour now.
"Okay, okay, let's go before this guy pops a blood vessel." Dave joked. The trainers that had flying Pokemon sent them out, and the newly expanded group somehow managed to fit on the few flying Pokemon they had. The flying Pokemon took to the skies, heading for the Inner Ring as Procter had instructed them.
---
Note: Just like in the last story, I imagine there may be same name confusion here. In the last story, it was Michael (the wielder of the gray staff) and Mike (a member of the elite 4), and now it's David (the dude with the sword) and Dave (Dan's brother). Just remember that David is the dude with the sword, and Dave is Dan's brother.
Note: I am fully aware of how silly "I beat five of the six members of the Elite 4!" sounds. It was somewhat intentional. XD

Ta-da!

Chapter 10

"Guys, wake up." Stephen walked to each of his teammates and shook them violently, trying to awaken them.
"Wh-what?" Geraldo wondered, rubbing his eyes as he sat up.
"What's the emergency?" Hector asked with a yawn.
"Teachers." Stephen replied, peering out a small hole in the side of the building. Procter, Dan, Tatiana, and Sebastian were flying through the city on their flying Pokemon, scouting the area diligently.
"Teachers?! Are you serious?" David questioned.
"I think it goes without saying that they're here for us." Stephen added. "Anyone have any ideas about how we're going to get out of here?"
"I do. Quagsire, Pupitar! Dig!" Hector released his two ground type Pokemon, ordering them to dig an underground exit. The pair quickly destroyed a square of floor tiles and began to dig a deep hole into the ground. Geraldo sent out his Chewpir to help his friend's Pokemon dig faster.
"Teachers? Finally! I'm saved!" Nicholas exclaimed, dashing toward the door.
"Not so fast." Before the boy could reach the door, David's Scyther blocked the exit.
"Ponyta, attack!" Nicholas ordered. Ponyta and the other fire Pokemon had never returned to their Pokeballs, so Nicholas's Pokemon was ready to go, launching an Ember attack at the bug Pokemon. Scyther flapped its wings rapidly, and the incoming fire was blown back at Ponyta, nearly missing Nicholas.
"Woah, hey!" David shouted. "Let's not burn the building down!"
"Hey, that's a good idea!" Nicholas decided. "The teachers will see it, and it'll get rid of this nasty old abandoned building, too! Ponyta, Fire Spin!" Before Ponyta had time to follow its command, however, it found itself being wrapped by the blue serpentine form of Misteam.
"Honestly, kid, how stupid are you?" Stephen asked rhetorically. "Misteam, just knock it unconscious." Misteam began to squeeze tighter, and at the same time, launched a Water Gun, extinguishing a section of the horse's fiery mane. The weakened Pokemon quickly succumbed to its attacker's power, and fell to the ground, unconscious.
"Ponyta!" Nicholas shouted, running over to his defeated Pokemon.
"They're coming this way!" Stephen, still looking out the crack in the building, informed the rest of the group. Nicholas returned his Ponyta, David returned his Scyther, and Stephen returned his Houndour and Misteam to their Pokeballs.
"Alright, the hole's deep enough for us all to fit! Let's go!" The group quickly scurried down the hole, which was being expanded into a long tunnel even as they spoke. Nicholas was still trying to escape, so David, being incredibly strong from picking up the large sword on his back all of the time, picked the boy up as if he weighed less than a feather.
"They're going to see the hole!" Geraldo realized.
"Quagsire, seal it up!" Hector commanded. Quagsire turned around as the trainers passed it, and began to fling mud from the tunnel walls at the entrance. Soon, the hole in the ground was no more.
"Alright, everybody quiet, or they'll hear us!" Stephen warned. Naturally, Nicholas began to scream as loud as possible, so David cupped his hand over the boy's mouth. As Hector and Geraldo's Pokemon continued to dig, the trainers stood still, waiting for the teachers to enter and then exit the building.
"Hey, maybe they're in here!" Tatiana suggested, waving to the other faculty members. Her Meteoclips psychically moved the door to the side, and the trainers walked in alongside their flying Pokemon.
"Wow, this place was never a four-star hotel, but I remember it being a little better than this the last time we were here." Dan commented, remembering the time that the group of staff wielding trainers and Gym Leaders had battled the Elemental Six on the roof of the building. Michael had come to help them, disguised in a cloak, and had stolen all of Team Rocket's Pokemon after the battle.
"Yeah...there aren't even any floors up there!" Tatiana agreed, looking up to the roof.
"Skarlord, see if they're hiding in the rafters!" Dan commanded. The steel bird Pokemon flew up, thoroughly examining each floor of the building, including the spiral staircase. It also checked the rooftop, but found nothing there either.
"Nothing? Alright." Dan patted Skarlord on the head for a job well done. "Let's go." The group began to walk back out the doorway, but Sebastian stopped.
"What's wrong, Mr. Ebipese?" Mr. Procter inquired.
"Do you guys hear that?" Sebastian asked. "It sounds kind of like...a muffled scream, or something."
"No...I don't hear anything." Procter replied after several minutes of listening.
"Alright, maybe I'm just hearing things." Sebastian decided, and the group walked out the door, continuing their search of Mizaqua City.
"That was a close one." Stephen commented, having heard the conversation between the teachers.
"Good going, Nick, you almost got us caught." David smacked Nicholas over the head, releasing his hold on the boy's mouth.
"Well, we probably can't go to the Ice Caverns if they're in the area." Hector decided.
"We don't need to," Stephen responded, "Michael's in the Chasm Mountains."
"How do you know?" David asked skeptically.
"My Nightture," Stephen explained, "There are so few left in the world that they all share a telepathic bond. He can sense Michael's Duskarrion, and it's in the Chasm Mountains."
"How do you know that it's not just a wild one?" Hector inquired, but his tone was more one of concern and curiosity than skepticism.
"I just know," Stephen answered, "And besides, you said it yourself, it's not safe for us to go to the Ice Caverns."
"Alright," Hector agreed, "Let's go to the Chasm Mountains." The three ground type Pokemon continued to burrow through the ground, planning to surface just outside of Mizaqua City.

"So what are we supposed to be looking for?" Drake asked. The group of trainers had reached the inner ring of Olemenun, and had landed their flying Pokemon just outside of the Kaimone Shopping Centre, the closest area of human inhabitation to where they had crossed the sea.
"A group of five boys," Mrs. Searle answered, "All we know, other than their names, is that one has a Nightture, one has an Aerodactyl...one is a skilled computer hacker, and one carries a sword on his back."
"We'd know more if Sebastian was with our group." Mr. Lawson commented.
"So what are we doing here?" Emily wondered. "It's just a department store. They're not going to know anything!"
"They might," Mrs. Searle replied, "And it's as good a place as any to start." After returning their flying Pokemon to their Pokeballs, the group walked inside and approached the front desk.
"Good morning! How may I help you today?" The receptionist asked cheerfully.
"Has a group of five high school-aged boys walked in here?" Mr. Pennington inquired.
"No...I don't think so." The receptionist answered.
"Thanks anyways." Pennington responded, turning and heading back toward the door right away.
"Geeze, he's impatient." Drake commented once Pennington had exited the building.
"Yeah," Chris agreed, "You should try having him for a teacher! None of his students like his class."
"That's not very nice." Mrs. Searle, who had been listening to the conversation, interjected in an unserious tone. She began to laugh, indicating that she agreed with the students. "He doesn't get along with the other teachers too well, either."
"So, where to next?" Emily asked as the rest of the group exited the building.
"The Safari Zone is five minutes away," Mr. Pennington answered, "We should check there."

The four trainers and their new vampiric companion sat down on the green couches in the lobby of the Sevorg Research Institute, where they had spent the night. Their Pokemon had already gotten to work cleaning up the mess that Vampyro had left, but were very careful not to disturb Bethany's body.
"So what now?" Jeremy asked. "We beat Vampyro...so there's really nothing left to do on this island, is there?" A pained look began to grow on Matt's face.
"There's one thing." Elissa replied quickly, noticing Matt's expression.
"What do you want to do, Matt?" Bobby inquired. "Cremate it or bury it?"
"Bethany loved this island," Matt answered with a tear in his eye, "She would want to spend the rest of eternity as a part of it." He paused. "I want to scatter her ashes from the top of the highest mountain."
"I understand," Bobby responded, "If you want my fire Pokemon to..."
"No," Matt interrupted him, "My Pokemon will do it."
"Alright." Bobby replied.

"Wow, I haven't been here in so long, I had forgotten how big this place was." Dave commented as the group entered the vast expanse known as the Safari Zone. It was divided into five main areas; a plains area, a forest area, a mountainous area, a snowy area, and a lake area.
"We should split up to cover more ground in less time." Mr. Pennington suggested.
"Alright, there are ten of us here," Mrs. Searle pointed out, "Chey can come with me, Troy can go with Mr. Pennington, Rachael can go with Mr. Lawson, Drake can go with Dave, and Chris can go with Emily."
"Sounds good." Dave agreed. Chey and Mrs. Searle headed for the plains area, Troy and Mr. Pennington went to the forest, Rachael and Mr. Lawson walked toward the lake area, Drake and Dave headed toward the snow, and Chris and Emily set out for the mountains.

"So, you're probably wondering why I picked you to go with me, right?" Mrs. Searle asked Chey as the two of them patrolled the plains. "I just...forgive me for being nosy, but whatever happened between you and Stephen...I just want to help."
"It's alright," Chey replied politely, "I don't mind. I trust you." She paused. "A little while before you came to Emily's house, we were all at a party."
"Troy's?" Mrs. Searle guessed.
"Yeah," Chey answered, "Anyways...Stephen got drunk, and he...he tried to take me upstairs..." Tears began to well up in her eyes.
"Oh, Chey, I'm so sorry..." Mrs. Searle immediatly responded. "Did he hurt you?"
"No...my Eyequus managed to stop him," Chey replied, wiping the tears away, "And then I knocked him unconscious, and me and Emily and Chris left the party."
"Chey...I'm so sorry..." Mrs. Searle reiterated.
"It's okay." Chey responded. "He had been acting kinda weird for a while...I had been considering breaking up with him for about a month or so before the party."
"He was acting weird?" Mrs. Searle inquired. "How so?"
"I can't really explain it," Chey answered, "He just...wasn't himself. He was more and more violent than usual...I guess it all started around the time that his Vuldusk evolved." Mrs. Searle's eyes widened as she realized the reason for Stephen's behavior.
"Oh no." Mrs. Searle whipped out her cell phone, quickly dialing the other teachers.
"What is it? Did you find them?" Mr. Lawson asked.
"George, we have a problem." Mrs. Searle informed his coworker.
"What do you mean?" Mr. Lawson wondered.
"If you remember, one of the boys had a Nightture," Mrs. Searle explained, "And it's got him under its control."
"Are you sure?" Mr. Lawson questioned.
"I'm positive." Mrs. Searle confirmed.
"Call Procter," Mr. Lawson instructed her, "I'll call Jay."
"Right." Mrs. Searle agreed, hanging up her phone.

"The boy's under the influence of a Nightture?!" Mr. Pennington asked in disbelief. "You've got to be kidding me! There haven't been any reported cases of that in fifteen years!"
"Now's my chance," Troy thought to himself, "The old man's distracted by his phone." Without warning, the boy bolted away from the teacher, agilely plunging into the forest.
"Hey! What the heck?" Pennington exclaimed. "I'll have to call you back, George." He hung up his cell phone and released a sleek, brown and white Linoone from a Pokeball on his belt.
"Go get him, Linoone!" He instructed.
"Lin, Linoone!" Linoone raised its nose, sniffing the air. It immediately began dashing in the direction that Troy had run at an incredible speed. In no time, it was closing in on the boy.
"What?" Troy wondered, turning to see his pursuer. "Crap!" He began to think as he continued to run frantically. "Wait...of course! Linoone can only run in straight lines!" He immediately turned in front of a large tree. Linoone was moving so fast that it was unable to stop in time, and crashed into the tree.
"Hah! Yes!" Troy exclaimed as he looked back to see the Linoone's crash. When he turned his head back around, he was shocked to see a Pidgeot right in front of him. The boy fell back in surprise, landing on the bare ground.
"Pidgeot!" Pidgeot cried, flapping its wings victoriously. Mr. Pennington and his Linoone walked up behind Troy, a smirk on the former's face.
"Did you really think you were going to outsmart me, kid?" Pennington asked. "Even you should know better than that." He threw a Pokeball into the air, releasing the large blue mass of vines known as Tangrowth. Its viny arms stretched out and wrapped around Troy, preventing him from escaping. The powerful Pokemon lifted the boy above its head as it, its trainer, and the rest of its trainer's Pokemon began to walk back in the direction from which they had come.

"And here we are." Stephen announced as the flying Pokemon approached their destination. The peaks of the highest mountains became visible even in the heavy fog, and the group carefully located a flat surface on which to land.
"Aerodactyl, Defog!" Geraldo commanded. Aerodactyl began to flap its wings rapidly, and the fog in the area cleared. There were a few trees and large rocks in the circular area of flat rock, and it was surrounded by mountains. The only exit was a large, gaping entrance to the system of caves running through the Chasm Mountains.
"So he's somewhere in there?" David asked.
"Yeah." Stephen confirmed.
"Then let's go." Hector interjected. The trainers returned their flying Pokemon to their Pokeballs and walked into the cave. It was very dark, and nothing was visisble, not even in the immediate area.
"Magneton, Flash!" Hector released his electric Pokemon, and it began to glow with electricity. The glow brightened, and soon, the trainers could see as far as twenty feet away. There was only one path, so they followed it for quite a while.
"Aren't these caves surprised to be harder to navigate than this?" David inquired. "We haven't seen any forks in the path, or anything. This can't be right."
"Well, that's because we're not walking through a cave," Nicholas responded, "We're walking through a Tunnelurm trail. We have been the entire time."
"What?!" David exclaimed. "Why didn't you tell us that?"
"You didn't ask." Nicholas replied with a smirk.
"Well, as long as it doesn't come back this way, we're fine." Geraldo commented. Suddenly, a monstrous roar echoed through the cave.
"That's just great." David pulled two Pokeballs off of his belt and waited to see what direction the beast would come from. The group slowly turned around to see the large white worm with its mouth open, drooling.
"Scyther, Gallade, go!" David threw the two Pokeballs into the air, and the green and white fighting type and the bug with blade arms appeared. "Let's go!" He removed his own sword from its sheath, and he rushed forward alongside his Pokemon, just as much a part of the fight as them.
"What does he think he's doing?!" Nicholas wondered. "He'll get himself killed!" David and his Pokemon jumped into the air and descended upon the Tunnelurm, their blades drawn. With a disgusting squelch, the blades sliced through the large Pokemon like butter. The Pokemon fell apart into several pieces, and David and his Pokemon stood at the center of the mess.
"Was that really necessary?" Hector asked rhetorically, unimpressed and slightly disgusted.
"Don't preach to me, nerd." David replied with a hint of sarcasm as he returned his Pokemon to their Pokeballs. As he stepped out of the corpse, the other trainers noticed that the boy didn't have a single splotch of blood on him. In fact, there was no blood on the ground, either; the boy and his Pokemon's swordsmanship was so great that they had cut the Tunnelurm to pieces without tearing through a single vein or artery.
"So what now?" Geraldo questioned. "We've been in a Tunnelurm trail the entire time. We need to find an actual entrance to the cavern system."
"No you don't." An unfamiliar voice came from behind. The group turned to see a girl about Hector's age with blonde ponytails. She wore blue overalls, a white shirt, brown boots, and a brown cowboy hat, and held a Pokeball in one hand and a lasso in the other. There was no mistaking it, she was one of the farmer-trainers of Sinnoh's Solaceon City. Next to her stood the majestic form of a Luxray, which appeared to be her source of light.
"And just who might you be?" Hector inquired.
"I'm Katie, of Solaceon City!" The girl replied. "And if anyone finds Michael, it's gonna be me!"
"You? You're looking for Michael?" Hector asked, surprised. "Why would some farmer from Sinnoh be looking for the leader of Team Rocket?"
"That's none of your business!" Katie shouted. "Now, prepare to fight!"
"You're going to fight all of us? Are you crazy?" Stephen was shocked by the girl's bold proclamation.
"I'm one of the strongest trainers in all of Sinnoh! I beat Team Galaxy, and I can surely beat you!"
"It's your funeral." David replied, sending out his Zangoose, Seviper, Farfetch'd, Scyther, Gallade, and Lucario.
"Y-You're actually going to fight her?" Geraldo asked, as if surprised that David was accepting the girl's challenge.
"You're not?" David responded, equally surprised that Geraldo wasn't. "It's five against one! Come on, that's the easiest battle I've ever heard of!"
"Don't be so sure." Katie threw the rest of her Pokeballs into the air, and from them came Infernape, the fire monkey; Empoleon, the steel penguin; Torterra, the tortoise with mountains on its back; Staraptor, the hawk; and Garchomp, the ground dragon with a fin on its back.
"Those guys look pretty strong..." Nicholas commented.
"Guys? Don't offend them!" Katie responded. "All of my Pokemon are female, the superior gender!"
"Oh, so she's a misandrist, too. How didn't we see that one coming?" Hector sighed, rolling his eyes. "Alright, guys, let's help David out." He threw all of his Pokeballs into the air, releasing his entire team.
"Alright, if you say so..." Geraldo sent out his six Pokemon to join Hector's and David's. Stephen followed suit, but Nicholas did not.
"Send out your Pokemon, Nick!" David exclaimed.
"Are you kidding me? I'm not helping you," Nicholas replied, "I hope you guys lose."
"Ignorant little..."
"If you boys aren't going to start attacking, then I will!" Katie interrupted. All six of her Pokemon rushed forward and launched powerful attacks of their own element. Before the male trainers had time to react, all of their Pokemon were on the ground, defeated.
"Well, looks like she was as strong as she said she was." Hector said nonchalantly.
"How the heck did she do that?!" David yelled.
"Hah! She beat you guys bad!" Nicholas mocked.
"Shut up." David replied as he drew his sword.
"What are you going to do, attack me with that thing?" Katie asked. "My Pokemon will tear you to pieces before you even take a step."
"Bring it on." David said overconfidently. He began to charge forward, sword in hand, preparing to strike the girl.
"Staraptor, tear off his head!" Katie ordered. Staraptor dove toward the oncoming man with the sword, travelling much faster than the boy it was targetting.
Crackle!
Staraptor fell to the ground, its feathers singed by a bolt of lightning. Katie turned to see the bright yellow form of Elketric, the lightning deer Pokemon. Next to it stood Tyzer, the icy white tiger Pokemon, and Tyrnferno, the large red tyrannosaurus Pokemon with a ring of fire around its tail.
"What the?" Katie wondered, surprised by the entrance of the new Pokemon.
"Tyrn!" Tyrnferno bellowed.
"Wild Pokemon?" Stephen suggested.
"Everyone, attack!" Katie commanded. Her six Pokemon dashed toward the three wild Pokemon, launching various attacks. The three Pokemon easily dodged every attack, and launched attacks of their own. With a single Fire Blast, Thunder, and Blizzard, all six of Katie's Pokemon were defeated.
"What? How's that possible?!" Katie exclaimed, shocked.
"Those things are way too strong to be wild Pokemon." Hector realized.
"But who's their trainer?" Nicholas asked.
"Absolutely pitiful. You couldn't even defeat these weaklings." An unknown male voice resonated throughout the cave. With Magneton and Luxray down for the count, the group of trainers could only see as far as the dim glow of the electricity flowing between Elketric's antlers allowed. Out of the shadows stepped a man with an almost maniacal grin on his face. He held an object in his hand, but it was still cloaked in the darkness, and was unidentifiable.
"You're...!"

Ok, so, due to DP being out, there prolly won't be a chapter next week.
Perfect time for a cliffhanger, XD

Meh, sorry about no chapter last week and this one being short...I've had more schoolwork than usual recently, and I've been consumed by Pokemon DP, and I've just overall been pretty uninspired...chapters will prolly be further inbetween than usual until June, when I get out of school, but once summer break starts, they'll hopefully be more frequent.

Chapter 11

The man stepped out of the darkness of the cave, a large smirk on his face. He kept one hand cloaked in the shadows, hiding the object that it held. His free hand reached for a Pokeball on his belt, and in a flash, all three of the incredibly strong Pokemon; Elketric, Tyrnferno, and Tyzer; were gone, back in their Pokeballs.
"You're...you're...!" Katie fumbled her words as she tried to say the man's name.
"Michael." Stephen finished her sentence. The entire group of young trainers was awestruck, as this was the first time they had ever seen Team Rocket's leader in person. He had long, untamed, mangy brown hair, complete with a matching beard. He simply wore a black t-shirt and black shorts, and had nothing covering his feet. He certainly had the appearance of a hermit or a homeless person.
"It's really him!" David exclaimed, shocked and impressed.
"Wait, what's up with your hair?" Nicholas inquired. "Didn't you just move to the mountains a few days ago?"
"Nick, you idiot!" David scolded. "What kind of a question is that to ask the head of Team Rocket?! How rude!"
"Is that what they're telling you?" Michael responded. "That I just moved here a few days ago?"
"Yeah, January 2nd." Hector answered. "Why, isn't that true?"
"No," Michael replied with a chuckle, "Of course not. I've been out here for several years now." The entire group was shocked, perhaps even more so than they had been when they first saw Michael.
"What?! How is that possible?" Geraldo wondered. "You held press conferences..."
"A Ditto, no doubt," Michael guessed, "With a Mimikeet nearby to imitate my voice."
"But...who's been running Team Rocket?" Geraldo asked.
"Probably a woman." Katie interjected.
"Well, you're partially right," Michael replied, "It's a team of five of my highest level administrators, and two of them are women."
"Hmph. You don't realize how smart women are..." Katie muttered inaudibly.
"What was that?" Michael inquired.
"Nothing, nothing." Katie replied.
"So wait, why would the people you put in charge lie about when you moved out here?" Geraldo wondered.
"Probably because they didn't want anyone to find me here." Michael explained.
"If they didn't want anyone to find you, why did they encourage trainers to come look for you?" Hector immediately asked.
"They did?" Michael was surprised. "Why would they decide to tell people now, of all times...?"
"Alright, so, we found you. Now you're supposed to train us." David butted in.
"And you're calling me rude?" Nicholas remarked.
"I'm supposed to train you? Don't tell me they promised you that, too." Michael rolled his eyes.
"You know, you're a lot friendlier than I expected," Stephen commented, "The media always portrays you as some cold-hearted killer who doesn't care about anyone but himself...and the Ditto and Mimikeet holding your press conferences do, too."
"Well, that's because that's what Team Rocket knows me as," Michael explained, "That's how I was when I left them. But while I've been on this mountain, I've found a sort of peace...so I suppose you could say I'm a lot friendlier than I was back then."
"Hey, why did you decide to come out here, anyways?" Hector inquired.
"I think you've asked me enough questions," Michael responded, "Now it's my turn. Why did all of you decide to seek me out for training?"
"Well, all of us just decided we'd much rather do this than stay in school," Hector answered, motioning to the group of boys, "Me and David here got expelled, Geraldo got sick and tired of being bullied around, and Stephen...well..."
"My girlfriend broke up with me." Stephen finished the sentence.
"Yeah. And as for Nicholas..." Hector continued
"Hey, don't include me in your tally, you guys dragged me here against my will!" Nicholas exclaimed. "I'd much rather be at school!"
"And you?" Michael turned to Katie.
"I...uh, I just...I just wanted you to train me, so I can become a better Pokemon trainer!" Katie struggled to respond.
"The real reason, please." Michael called the young trainer's bluff.
"Wh-What are you talking about?" Katie was flustered.
"I overheard you talking to these guys before your battle. You beat Team Galaxy, and now you want to beat Team Rocket, and you think the easiest way to do that is to kill their leader."
"What?!" David shouted, amazed. The entire group turned to face Katie.
"Dangit." Katie cursed.
"Team Rocket is a beneficial organization now, and it has been for fifteen years," Michael said, "Why would you want to defeat it?"
"Beneficial?!" Katie stammered. "If it's so beneficial, explain why its members have been stealing people's Pokemon in Sinnoh!"
"What?" Michael was taken aback. "They have?"
"They've been stealing from rookie trainers and Gym Leaders alike!" Katie exclaimed. "Even Cynthia, the former champion of Sinnoh's Pokemon League, had some of her Pokemon stolen!"
"That doesn't make any sense," Michael responded, "Why would Team Rocket be stealing Pokemon in Sinnoh?"
"Some of the grunts must be doing it behind the higher-ups' backs." Hector suggested.
"But why...?" Michael thought aloud.
"Why don't you just fly over to Team Rocket Headquarters and ask them?" Stephen suggested.
"No." Michael answered immediately and sternly. "Absolutely not. I can't do that."
"Why not?" David questioned.
"That's none of your business." Michael replied, his tone much different than it had been before. After a silence of several minutes, Katie finally spoke up.
"Well, if you won't, then I will." She decided. She returned her unconscious Pokemon to their Pokeballs and began to leave the cave without another word.
"Aren't you going to stop her?" Geraldo wondered.
"Why should I?" Michael responded. "It's not my concern. Maybe she'll be able to alert them to what's been going on in Sinnoh."
"So, will you train us, or not?" David pressed.
"Hmm...sure," Michael decided after a moment of thought, "On one condition. You must defeat me in a Pokemon battle."
"What?!" Nicholas looked at the man as if he was crazy. "After seeing what your Pokemon did to Katie's? And her Pokemon were way stronger than ours!"
"Don't worry, I'll give you a handicap!" Michael assured the boy. "It will be all of your Pokemon against one of mine!"
"Seriously?" Geraldo asked.
"Now those are odds I can live with!" David exclaimed.
"You're forgetting something, genius," Nicholas reminded David, "All of your Pokemon are knocked out from the battle with Katie."
"Don't worry." Michael pulled a small device out of his Pocket. It was a short, metallic, silver rod with a red and white sphere on the end of it. The sphere resembled a Pokeball, but instead of a button in the center, it had a small hole.
"What's that?" Geraldo wondered.
"A portable Pokemon Center," Michael replied, "Everyone, give me your Pokeballs." Michael lined the Pokeballs up on the ground and waved the object in his hand above the first Pokeball in the line. A warm green light briefly flashed through the hole in the device, and when it was done, Michael moved to the next Pokeball in the line. One by one, the device shined its light on the Pokeballs, healing the Pokemon within them. When Michael told them it was okay, the trainers picked their Pokeballs back up, and released the Pokemon within them.
"What about you? Aren't you going to send out your Pokemon?" Michael asked Nicholas, who had not sent his creatures out to battle.
"No way." Nicholas answered.
"Oh, come on, don't be a chicken." Michael joked.
"No way," Nicholas wouldn't budge, "I'm not helping these guys."
"Very well." Michael conceded. His attention turned to Stephen, whom he had just realized was holding the black staff. "Hey...wait a minute...that's not...?!"
"Heh, yeah, it is." Stephen scratched the back of his head as he smiled slightly apologetically.
"Where did you get that?! That was supposed to be kept safe in Olemenun Academy!"
"Yeah...we kinda stole it." Stephen responded.
"You stole it...?!" Michael was in a state of disbelief. "How? I was told that it was going to be protected by multiple state-of-the-art security systems, and..."
"Oh, it was," Hector interrupted, "But I hacked them all."
"You don't say..." Michael began to rub his chin, impressed. "Hmm...maybe this is fate, then..."
"What?" Stephen wondered.
"Nothing, nothing." Michael replied, shaking his head. "Now then, for my Pokemon..." Michael moved his arm out of the shadows, revealing the yellow staff in his hand. His other hand moved to the Pokeball on the top of the staff, and threw it into the air, releasing the Pokemon inside the ball.
"Dusk-aaaaire!" Duskarrion cried, flapping its wings as it materialized in the air. The five purple feathers atop its head glowed intensely, and its entire body looked very ominous.
"Now then. Let's get this party started." Michael smirked and waved his arm, ordering Duskarrion to attack.

"It looks like the situation is much graver than I thought." Procter closed his cell phone and placed it in his pocket. The group of four teachers stood just outside the Ice Caverns, having completed their search of the area.
"What do you mean?" Dan asked.
"One of the boys, Stephen Schwartz, appears to be under the influence of a Nightture." Procter answered.
"You're kidding me." Sebastian responded.
"I'm afraid not, Mr. Ebipese." Procter replied.
"But, the last person to fall victim to a Nightture's power was..." Tatiana realized.
"Michael." Dan finished her sentence.
"Ah yes...the head of Team Rocket," Procter stroked his chin, "The two of you are friends with him, correct?"
"We were, but we haven't talked to him in years." Dan answered.
"The last time we saw him was at Bobby and Elissa's wedding." Tatiana added.
"Perhaps we should pay your old friend a visit." Procter suggested. "He was a staff wielder like yourselves...the boys may have gone to him in hopes of attaining the black staff's power."
"You're right!" Tatiana agreed. "That would make perfect sense!"
"Well then, we should probably get going," Sebastian thought aloud, "It's a long way to Balankou City."

"What...what happened here?!" Bobby wondered, shocked to see the gaping hole in the dome roof of Olemenun Academy's lobby. "Do not cross" tape lined the area, and several police officers could be seen entering and exiting the building. The group had decided to come to Olemenun Academy to make sure that Drake had been accepted, as their business on Skuakko Island was complete. Nosfrostu had folded in her wings, and had successfully disguised herself as a human female.
"Excuse me!" Elissa shouted, hoping to attract one of the officers' attention. A female officer with blue hair approached them. "What happened here?"
"A group of students broke in last night and stole an item on display in the school's lobby." The officer explained. Bobby's eyes widened.
"What item?" He asked.
"I'm sorry sir, that's classified..."
"What item?!" He demanded. "I am the champion of the Pokemon league, and my wife is the leading professor in the region of Olemenun. It is very important that we know what item was stolen!"
"...The black staff." The officer reluctantly answered. Bobby was petrified. The officer walked away from the group, heading back to her duties.
"The black staff?!" Elissa exclaimed. "Bobby, that..."
"I know." Bobby replied.
"What are we going to do?" Jeremy wondered.
"Dan and Tatiana were teachers here. Maybe they know who did it!" Elissa suggested.
"Good idea." Bobby agreed, slowly reaching for his cell phone. He dialed Dan's number, and began to talk to his old friend.
"Dan? It's Bobby. We just arrived at Olemenun Academy...Yeah, we saw it...We were wondering if you knew who did it...Have you found them yet?...Do you want us to help you look for them?...Alright. We'll meet you there." He hung up his phone.
"So?" Elissa inquired.
"We're going to Balankou City," Bobby replied, "To Team Rocket's Headquarters."

The large group of adults and students had gathered at the Safari Zone entrance, having seen no trace of the boys there.
"Alright. By now, you should all know how serious this matter is," Mrs. Searle announced, "One of the boys is being controlled by a Nightture."
"And if that boy gains the black staff's power..." Mr. Pennington added.
"The results will be catastrophic." Mr. Lawson finished.
"We'll need all the help we can get," Mrs. Searle decided, "Dave. I need you to alert the other Gym Leaders."
"Right." Dave agreed, nodding his head as he pulled out his cell phone.
"The closest town with a gym is Spirrei Town." Drake recalled.
"Alright then, Spirrei Town it is." Mrs. Searle agreed. The group made their way out of the Safari Zone and boarded their flying Pokemon, heading for the home of the ghost-type Gym Leader, Brandon.

It had only been minutes since the battle started, and already, over half of the boys' Pokemon had been defeated. Michael's Duskarrion was truly a force to be reckoned with, and nearly all of its opponents' attacks had been ineffective.
"How the heck are we losing like this?!" David wondered. "It was twenty four to one!"
"Exactly," Stephen responded, "Because we had more Pokemon on our side, our Pokemon had to be careful not to attack eachother. They held back. His Duskarrion, on the other hand, could be as reckless as it wanted with its attacks. But now that our Pokemon's numbers are shrinking...we might have a chance." Duskarrion slashed at Gallade with its wing, knocking out the fighting Pokemon in one hit. Now, Stephen's Nightture, Geraldo's Aerodactyl, Hector's Magneton, and David's Lucario remained.
"Excellent." Hector thought aloud. "Stephen, Geraldo, order your Pokemon to go airborne." Nightture and Aerodactyl flew up at their trainers' command, continuing to fend off attacks from Duskarrion as they ascended. Magneton quickly moved away from Lucario, stopping on the other side of Duskarrion.
"Geraldo, Stephen! Take advantage of the situation I'm about to provide you with!" Hector called to his companions. He flicked his wrist, and Magneton's magnets all pointed at the metal type Lucario. Lucario began to fly toward Magneton, attracted by the strong magnetic pull.
"Hey! What are you doing?!" David questioned.
"Just watch." Hector replied. Duskarrion, who was focusing on Nightture and Aerodactyl, did not notice the incoming Pokemon in time to dodge it. Lucario crashed into Duskarrion at a high speed, and the two were sent flying toward Magneton.
"Don't worry about our Pokemon, attack now!" Hector shouted to Stephen and Geraldo. A powerful blast of darkness shot out of Nightture's beak, and an even more powerful Hyper Beam shot from Aerodactyl's mouth. The two blasts hit the other three Pokemon head-on, causing a small explosion and clouding the field in smoke. Suddenly, from the smoke, Duskarrion seemingly appeared out of nowhere, ramming into Aerodactyl and jabbing into the prehistoric Pokemon. Aerodactyl fell to the ground, severely wounded, and it was clear that it was out of the fight. Now it was down to just Nightture and Duskarrion. Duskarrion charged at Nightture, slashing at it with its wing. Nightture began to fall to the ground, greatly weakened by the attack.
"Nightture! Don't give up yet!" Stephen shouted. "Use that move we've been practicing!" Upon hearing Stephen's words, Nightture began to weakly flap its wings, halting its fall. In a sudden burst of power and speed, it shot up, driving its beak into Duskarrion and aiming for the ceiling.
"Kamikaze Bullet!" Stephen yelled as the two bird Pokemon crashed into the ceiling. The force of the impact caused the dirt roof to begin to crumble, and a landslide of rock and dirt fell down to the ground, creating a large pile of debris in the center of the cave. Duskarrion and Nightture rested on top of the heap of rubble, their wings partially covered by rocks. It was obvious that both of them were unconscious.
"Well, it looks as though it's a tie." Michael decided.
"Not quite." Hector replied. Magneton, who had been lying under Lucario for quite some time, floated out from under the canine fighter and began to levitate in the air. "I ordered Magneton to use Protect when Lucario and Duskarrion were flying toward it."
"Nice thinking, young man." Michael clapped his hands politely as Geraldo began to cheer for his friend.
"So you'll train us now, right?" David inquired.
"My, aren't you the impatient one," Michael commented in response, "Yes, I'll train you."
"But who gets to use the staff?" Nicholas interjected, speaking for the first time since the battle had started.
"I do! I'm calling it, right now." David blurted out.
"Now now, I think that should be for me to decide," Michael responded, "Hmm...you." He extended his staff, pointing it at Stephen.
"Me?"
"Yes, you," Michael confirmed, "You see, we've got a lot in common, boy."
"Because we both have evolutions of Vuldusk, right?" Stephen guessed.
"...Yeah." Michael answered, content with Stephen's guess, whether it was right or not.
"So, if he's training with the staff, what are the rest of us going to do?" David wondered.
"Let's see..." Michael thought aloud, "You with the sword, you will train alongside your Pokemon."
"Alright." David agreed.
"The boy who uses Pokemon revived from fossils...there are seven special Pokemon of legend that I think you would be interested in trying to capture."
"Cool!" Geraldo exclaimed.
"For the boy who was able to hack the security systems guarding the black staff...I've got a little...computer project...for you to work on."
"No problem." Hector nodded his head.
"And the boy with glasses..."
"No way. Whatever you want me to do, I'm not doing it. I'm going home. You guys found Michael, you don't need me any more." Nicholas proclaimed.
"You're right," David reached for his sword, "We don't need you any more. In fact, we never did." He unsheathed the blade, holding it by his side and preparing to charge toward Nicholas.
"Hey! Now, now! Let's not do anything rash!" Michael exclaimed. It was too late. David had already begun to charge at the defenseless boy, who was too scared to reach for his Pokeballs.
Clang!
David's sword hit the red and white umbrella, which made a noise as if it was made of steel. The gray, blocky humanshape Pokemon shook its head in disapproval and flicked the arm it was holding its umbrella in, sending David flying several yards away. Nicholas stood cowering behind the Umbrellord, amazed to be alive.
"Change of plans," Michael informed David, "You're not training with the Pokemon. You're leaving."
