Chapter 12

David crashed into the wall of the cave, propelled through the air by the amazing power of Michael's Umbrellord.
"Change of plans," Michael informed David, "You're not training with the Pokemon. You're leaving."
"Grr..." David mumbled as he recovered from hitting the rocky wall. He held his sword at the ready position, as if preparing to charge at Michael.
"I knew you were stupid, but are you really stupid enough to assault me?" Michael tauntingly asked. With a furious battle cry, David dashed forward, sword at his side. Completely nonchalant, Michael flung the yellow staff out, pointing it at the oncoming youth. A bolt of lightning shot out of the staff's tip, striking the boy and halting his charge. He fell back onto the ground, stunned by the blast.
"One of you should probably make sure he's not dead," Michael sighed, "I tend to have a little trouble constraining my power sometimes." Geraldo, Stephen, and Hector ran over to David's body, but Nicholas, as always, remained where he was, uncaring about David's fate.
"He's alive." Geraldo confirmed.
"Dang." Nicholas responded.
"You really don't care for him, do you?" Michael asked Nicholas upon hearing the boy's curse.
"If someone kidnapped you and made you an accessory to a robbery, I don't exactly think you'd want to be their best friend, either." Nicholas replied.
"Fair enough." Michael shrugged as he walked over to where the other boys were helping David up.
"That hurt." David said.
"You'll live," Michael apathetically responded, "Anyways. As I was saying, you'll be leaving now." David shook Hector and Stephen's hands off of his arms and began to stagger toward Michael, an angry expression on his face.
"Why should I?" He challenged.
"Because you tried to kill your friend here," Michael replied, "But, if you'd rather, I could easily do the same to you. And I think you'll agree that unlike yourself, I'll succeed." David scowled as he made his way past Michael, heading for the cave's exit.
"So, you really want to go back to school?" Michael asked Nicholas. "Even if he's gone?"
"Yes," Nicholas answered after a few minutes of thought, "I don't want to get any more involved in this."
"Very well," Michael agreed, "Take this, in case your friend there tries to chop your head off as soon as you leave the mountain." He tossed a Pokeball from his belt over to Nicholas, who caught it in his hands. A label on the ball said "Juusan." Nicholas slowly made his way out the cave door, disappearing into the bright light of the outdoors.
"And then there were three." Hector joked.
"Now then, let's get down to business." The three boys nodded their heads. "I'm growing tired of this damp place. Let's adjourn to my cabin, shall we?"

Balankou City, once a quiet village whose sole tourist attraction was its gym, was now a highly industrialized city. It was home to several large corporations, the largest by far being Team Rocket, whose headquarters towered high above the rest of the buildings. Dan's group had arrived first, and had decided not to wait around for Bobby's group, as it was a long flight from Sparkiban. The carpeted lobby of the building was decorated with white wallpaper, various potted plants, several televisions, and a multitude of chairs. A long, red metallic desk adorned the wall opposite the door, and to either side of it was a red elevator.
"We need to speak to Michael immediately." Dan informed the receptionist, a man roughly his age who wore a pressed gray suit.
"Sir Michael? Didn't you see the news? He moved out to the mountains several days ago."
"Sir Michael?" Sebastian didn't understand why the receptionist used the honorific.
"That's what they refer to their bosses as." Tatiana explained.
"The mountains? That's just great." Dan sighed, frustrated. "Then I need to speak to whoever's in charge."
"Do you have an appointment?" The man asked politely.
"We need to speak with them, now!" Dan reiterated.
"I'm s-sorry, sir, but if you d-don't have an ap-appointment..." The man replied shakily.
"Do you know who I am?" Dan held the green staff out, waving it in front of the man.
"Oh! Y-You're...I'm so s-sorry, I'll alert them r-right away!" He began to dial a three-digit number on a telephone behind the desk.
"Alright, you c-can go on up. Fl-floor eighty-seven." The receptionist informed Dan.
"Thank you." Dan replied as he led the rest of the group to the elevator on the left.
"Eighty-seven? That's an odd number for the top floor." Procter commented.
"It's not the top floor," Dan explained, "It's just where Michael's office is. It's a hundred story building, but Michael insisted that his office be located on the eighty-seventh floor. Some kind of weird superstition, or something." Dan punched the number into the keypad, and the elevator began to ascend, quickly picking up speed. In less than a minute, it reached its destination, and the doors opened. The group stepped out into the hallway, and began to walk toward the lone door at the end of the passage.
"Whoever designed this place certainly has a strange taste in architecture." Procter thought aloud, referring to the unnecessarily long corridor and the single door at the end.
"It was Michael's idea," Dan replied, "There are all sorts of traps set up in this hall, but they're deactivated if he knows you're coming." Just as Dan finished speaking, almost on cue, a wall crashed down in front of him, and he nearly ran into it.
"What the heck?" Sebastian wondered, turning around to see a second wall blocking the path behind him.
"You've got to be kidding me," Dan was frustrated, "We don't have time for games." He raised his staff into the air, and it began to glow. Thick vines emerged from the carpeted floor, drilling into and bashing the walls. In mere moments, the concrete had been reduced to rubble. The teachers made their way over the remains of the walls, and continued the to walk toward the glass doors. Dan pushed the doors open and walked in, looking around the room. It was completely empty. No furniture, no people, just a plain white room.
"Did he change floors, maybe?" Tatiana suggested.
"No, this must be some kind of trick," Dan decided, "They can never make anything easy, can they?" He raised the staff above his head again, generating large vines near his feet. The vines began to thrash about, slamming the floor, ceiling, and walls in every place possible.
Whack!
An unusually large Gengar appeared out of thin air upon being hit on the forehead by one of the vines. It rubbed the place where it had been struck and pretended to cry as it faded away. As soon as it disappeared, the real room became visible. It was much larger than the false room had been, and it was colored with shades of black, blue, red, white, and yellow, from the carpet to the ceiling. At the far end of the room sat five human figures in five large chairs, colored to match the room. On the far left, in a yellow chair, was a slender man who wore an intricately woven white turban and mystical sand-brown robes. Next to him was a white chair, in which a woman wearing a snow-white kimono sat. She had long, flowing black hair, and her brilliant blue eyes shone with an intense light. On the far right was a blue chair, occupied by teenage girl with dyed blue hair. She wore silky blue garments, but she had to adjust them every few seconds, as if they were very uncomfortable. Next to her was a black chair, whose occupant was almost completed covered by a black cloak, much like the one Michael had worn as a disguise fifteen years ago. All that was visible through the cloak was a single eye, a deep black eye that seemed like it could pierce the soul of anyone who looked into it. The center chair was red, and in it sat an older man in royal red robes. He had short brown hair, and looked as if he might be the king of something. They all looked like they were probably in their thirties, except for the man in the red chair, who looked to be about fifty; and the girl in the blue chair, who was probably in her late teens. In front of the center chair was a small, wooden square table on which a chess board sat. The game was already underway, and looked to be in about the mid-game. On the black side, only a single pawn had been taken, whereas on the white side, a rook and two pawns had been removed from the board. Despite black's lead in numbers, white appeared to be on the verge of a comeback. The black king was only a few moves away from falling into a checkmate, and it looked like white was preparing to make those moves, if black didn't do anything to stop it.
"Are you who Michael put in charge of Team Rocket?" Dan inquired.
"We are," The man in the red chair answered, "What business do you have with us that is so urgent?"
"The black staff was stolen from Olemenun Academy last night." Procter replied.
"We thought that the culprits may seek Michael, hoping that he'll train them." Dan added.
"We came here looking for him." Tatiana explained.
"Well, as I'm sure you are now aware, Sir Michael is not here." The man in red responded.
"Then where is he?" Dan inquired. "We need to alert him about the boys with the black staff. He needs to know not to train them."
"We will inform Sir Michael." The man in the red replied.
"Could you tell us where he is anyways?" Tatiana asked. "So that we can go make sure they haven't already reached him."
"You do not need to worry," The red-clothed man reassured her, "They will not find him. The cabin he is living in is hidden well in the mountains."
"Well, we'd like to go see him anyways," Dan responded, "Where is he?"
"When Sir Michael left, he specifically asked us to tell noone where he was going." The man in red would not budge.
"Do you know who I am?" Dan asked, obviously very frustrated at this point.
"I know very well who you are, Mr. Richard," The man answered, "You're the wielder of the green staff."
"Then you know what I can do to you if..."
"Just tell him." The woman in the white chair spoke up, sensing an impending fight. "There's no harm in his knowledge." She shot an sharp glance at the man in the red.
"...Very well," The man sighed, "I apologize. I get very hot-tempered sometimes."
"Whatever." Dan was still sore.
"Sir Michael is living in a small cabin in the middle of the Chasm Mountains," The man in the red explained, "But it's invisible to the naked eye. You'll need a strong psychic Pokemon to reveal it."
"One of our friends has a Psychoir." Tatiana replied.
"Alright, that will do. Do you know where the Hiraisui Triangle is?"
"Yeah...it's near the middle of the range, a little to the the north," Tatiana recalled, "If I remember correctly, there are three mountains...a really cold one, a volcano, and one where there's always a thunderstorm."
"That's the place," The man in red confirmed, "That's where Sir Michael's cabin is. Right in the middle of the Hiraisui Triangle."
"Are you serious?" Sebastian spoke up. "Noone's ever entered the Hiraisui Triangle and lived to tell the tale!"
"I assume you are referring to the legend of the three dragons?" Procter asked.
"You need not worry about the dragons," The man in the yellow chair informed Sebastian, "With Sir Michael's help, we defeated them in order to make the triangle a safe place to live."
"But why would he want to?" Tatiana wondered.
"You know Sir Michael. You should know that he's...eccentric." The man in the red chair answered.
"Alright," Dan accepted the answer, "Let's go." He turned back toward the hall that led to the elevator, and the other three teachers followed him.
"...What were you thinking?" The woman in the white chair asked the man in the red. "If I hadn't gotten you out of that..."
"I know, I know," The man responded, "Several key pieces would have been taken too early, and the entire game would have fallen apart."
"That's right," The woman in white replied, "Only the pawns can be taken this early."
"Why do you guys treat this like it's a game of chess?" The teenager in the blue chair asked. "That's so clichéd."
"It is, it is," The man in red agreed, "But clichés are so very often accurate."
"Speaking of pawns, here comes one now." The man with the turban alerted the other people in chairs. As if by magic, a black pawn moved forward, and fell within range of the white queen.

"I need to speak to whoever's in charge here!" Katie demanded, slamming her hand down on the receptionist's desk.
"Do y-you have an ap-appointment?" The receptionist asked, shaken.
"I need to speak to them, now!" Katie shouted, louder than before.
"Fl-floor eighty s-seven!" The receptionist exclaimed out of fear.
"Stupid boy." Katie mumbled as she headed for the elevator on the left. Just as its doors closed, the doors of the elevator on the right opened, and Dan's group got out. As they walked toward the front doors, Bobby's group walked in.
"Did you guys already talk to whoever's in charge?" Bobby asked, wondering why Dan's group was leaving.
"Yes," Dan replied, "Let's go. We're going to the Hiraisui Triangle." As he spoke, he continued to walk toward the door, so Bobby's group turned around and followed him.
"The Hiraisui Triangle? That place is dangerous!" Elissa exclaimed. "There's..."
"Michael took care of the dragons." Dan answered before Elissa could finish her statement.
"Hey, who's the new girl?" Tatiana wondered, noticing the blue-eyed, blonde-haired woman traveling with Bobby, Elissa, Matt, and Jeremy.
"The legendary vampire of ice and light," Matt answered as if it was no big deal, "Nosfrostu."
"So the legend of the two vampires was true?" Procter was intrigued. "Does that mean that you..."
"Yes, Vampyro has been defeated." Nosfrostu replied, already knowing the man's question. Dan and Bobby, who were leading the group, pushed the glass doors open and led the rest of the group outside. Everyone released their flying Pokemon, and Nosfrostu closed her eyes, concentrating. Her shining blue and white wings began to extend, breaking through the plain white T-shirt she had been wearing for her disguise. The group of trainers took flight, flying northeast toward the Chasm Mountains.

"What's the big idea?" Katie thought aloud as her Garchomp tore apart the walls that had begun to close in on her. She continued to walk down the simple white hallway that led to the room that was once occupied by Michael. She pushed open the glass doors, and was met by the same illusion that the group before her had been met by; a small white room with nothing in it.
"This must be some kind of trick," She deduced, "Luxray, shine some light on the situation!" She threw Luxray's Pokeball into the air, revealing the black and blue lion Pokemon. Its body began to glow intensely, and Katie and Garchomp shielded their eyes as an incredibly bright light filled the room. The same large Gengar from before appeared, covering its eyes to avoid being blinded. It faded away into the light, and the real room was revealed. Luxray stopped glowing, and Katie and her dragon Pokemon lowered their arms.
"Well done, well done." The man in red clapped his hands.
"Who are you?" Katie asked, her eyes still adjusting to the level of light in the room.
"We are known as the Draconic Knights," The man in red answered, "And we have been put in charge of Team Rocket while Sir Michael takes his vacation in the mountains."
"Vacation? He's been in the mountains for years! Do you call that a vacation?" Katie questioned.
"That is not why you are here, is it?" The man in yellow asked, catching Katie off guard. "You want to know why Team Rocket grunts have been stealing Pokemon in Sinnoh."
"What?!" Katie was shocked by how easily the man knew the reason she had come to Team Rocket Headquarters.
"Is my friend correct?" The man in red already knew the answer.
"...He is, but how did you...?"
"Do not worry about such trivial matters," The man in the turban responded, "You can consider it a lucky guess."
"Fine," Katie recomposed herself, "Why have your grunts been stealing Pokemon in Sinnoh?"
"It is none of your concern." The man in red replied.
"None of my concern?! Even the champion of the Sinnoh Pokemon League has had her Pokemon stolen!" Katie exclaimed.
"Have you had any of your Pokemon stolen?" The woman in white inquired.
"No, but..."
"Then it is none of your concern," The woman in white interrupted, "Go home. Don't worry about what Team Rocket's grunts are doing."
"What?!" Katie was outraged. "How can you just stand by and let your grunts do that? Team Rocket are supposed to be good guys now!"
"We're not letting them do anything of the sort." The woman in white clutched the ends of her chair's armrests, as if she was about to stand up. "All grunts caught stealing from trainers - and that means all grunts stealing from trainers - have been punished severely, and the stolen Pokemon have been returned. You'd know that if you hadn't left Sinnoh in such a hurry."
Katie was speechless.
"Don't jump to conclusions, kid," The woman in white continued, "You say that all women are smarter than all men, even though you are obviously less intelligent than a male Primeape."
"What did you say?!" Katie shouted angrily.
"You heard me." The woman in white taunted.
"That's it." Katie threw her four remaining Pokeballs into the air, releasing her entire team. "Everyone, attack!" The six Pokemon charged forward, aiming their attacks at the woman in the white chair.
"My point exactly." The woman reached for the solitary Pokeball that she wore as a necklace. Before Katie's Pokemon could move a single yard, the woman in the kimono had removed the necklace and thrown the Pokeball into the air. "When my associate here referred to us as the Draconic Knights, you didn't even consider the possibility that maybe that title held some significance." Instead of the normal red flash, a blinding flash of white light emitted from the Pokeball, and a gargantuan form appeared, masked completely by the light.
"ROAAAARRRR!" Within seconds of the Pokemon's appearance, Katie and her Pokemon were completely obliterated by a beam of light. Its job done, the Pokemon returned to its Pokeball before the light from its appearance could fade away and reveal its form.
"White queen takes black pawn." The man in red smirked as the chess pieces magically moved, as if guided by an invisible hand. The pawn floated over to the side of the board, where the other pieces that had been removed from play rested. The girl in blue rolled her eyes as the men in the red and yellow chairs chuckled, amused by their metaphor.

Note: The label on the Pokeball Michael gives Nicholas is meant to be a play on the Seal/Sticker feature in DP. Props to anyone who can figure out what Pokemon is inside the ball using the japanese word "Juusan" and the knowledge of Michael's EL Pokemon.

Juusan is the Japanese word for "thirteen". Clearly an important number, seeing as Michael's office, or what is said to be his office, is on the 87th floor of a 100 floor building (again, a difference of thirteen, as well as the mention of superstition in the chapter). Thirteen is also our next chapter. It could be a Hittao (number 13 on the EL-Dex), but that seems too simple. However, it does evolve into Spiritao, and then Lotushade, which are Fighting/Ghost type, and fit into a spooky 13 theme. Number 87, interestingly, is Ditto. 113 is Diviso (probably unrelated to this problem), 213 is Porygon (teh Hectorz! :O), 169 (13 squared) is the Light type Magicorn, and the ones that begin with 13:

130-Flamoose-Fire
131-Elketric-Lightning
132-Spargo-Lightning
133-Stegoshock-Lightning
134-Stegostorm-Lightning
135-Tricerower-Grass
136-Tricerub-Grass
137-Treecera-Grass
138-Carname-Fire
139-Scorchivor-Fire

The thirteenth to last Pokemon in the EL-Dex is 239-???-Ice/Dragon if you consider Nitroneutra the last is 239-???-Ice/Dragon. If you consider 252-???-Elemental to be the last, then the thirteenth-to-last is 240-???-Lightning/Dragon in the EL-Dex.

Lorak, you have too much free time.
Anyways, here's the next chapter, a little early. I *should* be posting the updated dex tomorrow.

Chapter 13

"So, who's the Gym Leader here?" Emily asked, "I only got three badges before I came to Olemenun Academy."
"His name is Brandon," Dave explained, "And he uses ghost type Pokemon."
"So we're going to see if he'll help us, right?" Chey asked.
"Yes." Mr. Pennington confirmed. The group walked toward the dull gym building, and Dave opened the door. A musty aroma filled the air as the group walked inside, and several trainers coughed.
"This place smells like a pigsty." Emily commented. A thick fog wafted through the air, and the trainers could barely see in front of their feet.
"Brandon? Are you there?" Dave called out. "It's me, Dave, from Evolution City!" A snap was heard on the other side of the room, and the fog cleared almost automatically, revealing a male figure in a wheelchair several feet in front of the group. He had short brown hair, and wore simple, light clothes, but his most noticeable feature, other than the wheelchair, was the large bulge on the right side of his chest.
"Dave...good to see you." Brandon said in a slightly mysterious tone.
"Long time no see," Dave replied, "How's are you?"
"Well, the pain has subsided, if that's what you mean," Brandon answered, "But as you can see, I'm still fully paralyzed. My Pokemon have to wheel me around in this wheelchair...it's pretty pathetic. And I still have to keep the scar bandaged." Dave nodded.
"So, what brings you here?" Brandon asked, changing the subject.
"A group of students recently broke into Olemenun Academy," Mrs. Searle informed Brandon, "And stole the black staff."
"What?!" Brandon was shocked.
"We're trying to locate the students and bring them down, and we're asking for your help as a Gym Leader." Mr. Lawson explained.
"Brandon...we think that they might seek out Michael for training." Dave said solemnly. Brandon's eyes widened.
"Michael..." Brandon's mind flashed back to fifteen years ago. Michael, under the guise of the cloaked man, had ordered his Duskarrion to kill Paris. Brandon's Pokemon had all been defeated by Michael's other Pokemon, so the ghost-type Gym Leader tried to stop the bird Pokemon with his own two hands, and as a result, he himself fell victim to the Pokemon's razor-sharp talons. The attack had damaged his nervous system, and he had been completely paralyzed as a result.
"Oh, I'm...I'm sorry for bringing up his name..." Dave realized.
"No...it's fine." Brandon replied. After a short pause, he spoke again, "Unfortunately, I won't be able to help you. I want to, I do, but in my current condition, I'd only be a burden. I'm sorry."
"That's not true at all!" Chey exclaimed. "You're the Gym Leader of Spirei Town! We'd be happy to have your help!"
"I'm sorry." Brandon said again.
"Alright," Mr. Pennington had decided not to try to pressure the paralyzed Gym Leader, "Let's get going, then." After saying goodbye, the group made its way out of the gym.
"So some punk students stole the black staff, huh?" A male figure approached Brandon from within the cloak of fog after the group had left. "Well, let's hope that we don't get a repeat of the last time the staves were activated."
"Yeah." Brandon agreed.
"Y'know, that chick with the blue eyes and the brown and black hair..." The figure behind Brandon thought aloud, "There was something familiar about her...we should find out more."
"So what should we do?" Brandon wondered.
"Hmm...hey, you're friends with that hacker punk, right?" The man asked.
"Yeah, why?" Brandon inquired.
"Call him up," The man replied, "I want to find out all I can about that girl."

"You know who we should have stopped by and seen while we were in Balankou?" Elissa asked as the group flew toward the Chasm Mountains.
"Who?" Tatiana wondered.
"The Gym Leader, Tess," Elissa answered, "She might've been able to help us."
"Way ahead of you," Matt interjected, "I already called her up. She's going to meet us at the southern entrance to the Chasm Mountains, along with Sean and Megan, the Gym Leaders from Sparkiban and Mizaqua."
"Good thinking," Bobby commented, "We don't know what we're going to encounter in those mountains." The flying Pokemon pressed onward, and the group neared the south entrance to the vast mountain range.
"There they are!" Tatiana pointed to three humans and their Pokemon, who were standing just outside a large cave entrance. The group landed and dismounted their flying Pokemon, walking over to greet the Gym Leaders. Tess was a few years younger than Bobby, Dan, Elissa, Matt, and Tatiana. She wore majestic white robes, and her long black hair was tied up in a bun. Megan was the same age as Tess, and wore a brilliant azure dress and a blue head ornament to keep her blonde hair in a ponytail. Sean was a few years older than the staff wielders, and had short brown hair. He wore simple clothes; a light yellow polo shirt and gray sweatpants.
"Thank you all for coming out here." Elissa thanked the Gym Leaders.
"Don't worry about it," Megan replied, "Matt explained the situation. We're happy to help."
"Yes," Tess agreed, "It's very important that we do not allow the black staff to activate again."
"So," Bobby said, "Here's what I'm thinking. Those guys' behavior was...odd, to say the least. I think they may have been lying about where Michael's cabin is."
"I wouldn't be surprised." Dan added.
"So, half of us will go to the Hiraisui Triangle, to see if they were telling the truth," Bobby decided, "And half of us will search the rest of the mountain."
"Tatiana and I will search the mountain, along with Procter and Sebastian." Dan volunteered.
"Then we should go to the Hiraisui Triangle," Nosfrostu suggested, "So that the staff wielders will be split up between the two groups."
"I will go with you to the Hiraisui Triangle," Tess interjected, "I've always wanted to study that place, to see if the myths about it are true."
"Then we'll go with Dan and Tatiana," Megan responded, "To even it out."
"Alright then." Bobby said, boarding his Peablez, "Let's go." The two groups took off, flying in seperate directions. Bobby's group flew northwest, and Dan's group flew northeast.

"This is your cabin?!" Geraldo asked in disbelief. "It's a mansion!" The building was huge, and the foyer displayed all the characteristics of a mansion; marble floors, glass chandeliers, golden banisters, statues and works of art, and much, much more.
"Yes, well, I didn't ask them for a mansion," Michael responded, "Team Rocket's architects do tend to go a bit overboard when they're building something for their leader..."
"Geez." Even Hector couldn't help but marvel at the magnificent interior of the building.
"Anyways, let's get started, shall we?" Michael asked rhetorically. "Let's see...Hector, my computer room is upstairs. First door on the right. The main computer will brief you on what it is you'll be doing."
"Awesome." Hector began to walk up the stairs, heading for the computer room.
"Geraldo, this map will tell you where the Pokemon you're looking for are located." Michael handed Geraldo a laminated map of the world. There were several dots on several continents, indicating where Geraldo needed to go. "The Pokemon are very strong, so you should probably take some of my spare Pokemon with you." He handed Geraldo a belt with six Pokeballs on it.
"Thank you." Geraldo accepted the map and belt.
"Don't forget to train your own Pokemon, too." Michael added.
"Right." Geraldo walked out the front door, sending out his Aerodactyl and flying off into the sky.
"And now for you," Michael turned to Stephen, "We have some training to do." Stephen nodded his head.
"Follow me." Michael began to walk down a hallway next to the staircase, and Stephen followed him. At the end of the hallway were two doors. Michael opened the door on the left to reveal a dojo of sorts, where many different kinds of Pokemon were battling against eachother.
"Send out your Pokemon, this is where they'll be training." Michael informed Stephen. Stephen sent out all six of his Pokemon, who immediately entered the room and began battling with Pokemon of similar levels.
"Well, I guess they were pretty eager for a battle." Stephen thought aloud. Michael closed the door and walked over to the door on the right. It led to a large, empty white room. Stephen slowly followed Michael into the room, closing the door behind him.
"Do you know the legend of the Elemental Pokemon, Stephen?" Michael asked.
"Yes," Stephen replied, "When the eight staves are activated, the eight legendary Elemental Pokemon will awaken at their altars."
"That is correct, but that is not all of the legend." Michael responded.
"There's more?" Stephen wondered.
"Yes," Michael answered, "When all eight Elemental Pokemon and all eight staves are brought to a certain location, the ninth altar will appear. And from the ninth altar, the ninth Elemental Pokemon can be summoned."
"The ninth Elemental Pokemon? I don't remember reading anything about that." Stephen said.
"That is because its existance was kept hidden from the public, both in the ancient myths and in the news releases about what happened fifteen years ago."
"It was summoned fifteen years ago?" Stephen was intrigued.
"Don't you remember the news? About how me and the other staff wielders fought Jacob XII on Zen Island?"
"I remember the news, but it didn't say anything about a ninth Elemental Pokemon," Stephen recalled, "It only talked about the eight. And man, people went crazy when they found out that those were real."
"Yes, they did," Michael remembered, "But like I said, the reason you don't remember anything about the ninth Elemental Pokemon is because it was intentionally kept out of the news articles. Even today, the only people that know about it are those who witnessed its summoning on Zen Island."
"So, why are you telling me this?" Stephen wondered.
"I just thought you should know," Michael replied, "That you're going to be trained to use your staff by the person who summoned the ninth Elemental Pokemon." He smirked.
"You did? Cool!" Stephen exclaimed.
"Now then." Michael lifted the gray staff in front of himself. "I assume that your staff hasn't activated yet."
"Of course not," Stephen confirmed, "I practically just got it."
"Then I will first train you about how to use it physically, as a blunt weapon." Michael responded. "Draw your weapon." Stephen lifted the black staff, holding it like a sword in front of himself.
"Wait, but didn't you say you have trouble controlling your power? What if you accidentally shock me?"
"This room is insulated with layers upon layers of rubber. Don't worry. Now, try to block my attack. Ready?" Michael asked. Stephen nodded his head. "Yah!" Michael charged forward, swinging the gray staff behind his head. He jumped into the air, bringing the staff down on Stephen, who instinctively blocked the attack with the black staff.
"Very good." Michael commended Stephen, "Now it's your turn."

"Here we are," Mrs. Searle announced, "Poisawa Town." The group had reached the home of the third gym, Poisawa Town. Its few buildings were still in pretty poor shape, and the only major change that had been made to the town in fifteen years was the new Gym Leader, Danielle. The group made their way to the Gym.
"Hey, what's this?" Asked Dave, who had approached the door first. A sign hung from the door. "It says the Gym is closed until further notice."
"Closed?" Chey wondered. "Where's the Gym Leader?"
"I'm afraid you won't find her here," An old man who was passing by answered, "She's at the hospital in Hanaero Town."
"The hospital? Why?" Chey inquired.
"She's trying to treat a very sick patient," The old man answered, "Using antivenom made from her Pokemon."
"Thank you." Chey thanked the man.
"By the way, what's your name, youngster?" The senior citizen asked.
"Chey Ailart." Chey replied. "Thanks again!" After a quick consultation, the group unanimously agreed to fly to Hanaero Town, and released their flying Pokemon.
"Too easy." The old man said to himself after the group had left. His form began to change to that of a sixteen year old boy with short blonde hair as a Ditto appeared on his head. It was not uncommon for trainers to use Ditto to change their appearance, and it was very hard to see through the disguise.
"I just got off the phone with my friend." A Sanone pushed Brandon's wheelchair out from behind a large tree. "He said he'd be happy to help. You get her name?"
"Chey Ailart," The boy replied, "Ring any bells?"
"Ailart...wasn't that..."
"Yes it was," The boy interrupted, "One of the girls from fifteen years ago...before the incident."
"So then, she's...!"
"Call your friend back. We need to pay Chey's old lady a visit."

"They're probably nearing the triangle by now," The woman in the white chair informed her companions, "You three should go."
"Very well," The man in the red chair replied, "But while we're gone, I need you to do something, as well."
"And what would that be?" The woman inquired.
"Sacrifice a pawn to bring back our Rook." The man replied as he snapped his fingers. In an instant, he was gone, along with the occupants of the yellow and blue chairs.

"There it is." Bobby pointed to the horizon as his group of trainers approached their destination. Even from a few miles away, the Hiraisui Triangle was clearly visible. It was surrounded by a large clearing, so that the three mountains that formed it were the only ones in the area. Large stormclouds gathered above the mountain closest to the group, and lightning struck random places on the mountain every second. Just beyond that mountain were the other two, one of which was a constantly erupting volcano, and the other of which was covered in snowy blizzards all the way down to its base. The flying Pokemon approached the triangle and landed in the clearing, as it would be impossible to fly into the center.
"How are we going to get in there?" Tess wondered. "The area between the mountains is just as dangerous as the mountains themselves."
"Then we can't let down our guard," Bobby responded, "Let's go." He began to walk to the left of the thunderstorm mountain, between it and the volcano. The rest of the group followed him, looking around to make sure they didn't see any traps or Pokemon. A long black line was scorched into the ground, as if connecting the two mountains that the group was passing between. Along the line were various electric and fire Pokemon, facing the group, guarding the entrance to the Hiraisui Triangle. It was obvious that the Pokemon were led by a Pokemon that represented both elements; an abnormally large Ignalion.
"Ig-NAAAA!" The Ignalion roared loudly upon seeing the intruders.
"Boy, have I got the perfect opponent for you." Bobby sent out his own Ignalion, who roared with volume equal to the large Ignalion. The trainers sent out all of their Pokemon, and the fire and electric Pokemon charged forward, engaging the trainers' Pokemon in battle. Surprisingly, the wild Pokemon proved to be a fairly even match, even for the staff wielders' incredibly strong Pokemon.
"Looks like our Pokemon could use some help!" Matt exclaimed, drawing his staff.
"Matt, we're not supposed to use the staves against ordinary Pokemon!" Elissa exclaimed. "Isn't that right, Bo-" Bobby had already drawn his staff, as well.
"What?" Bobby asked innocently.
"Fine." Elissa sighed, lifting her own staff. "But just this once." The three staff wielders charged forward, with Nosfrostu at their side. The humans and the vampire made short work of all of the Ignalion's minions, but did not attempt to attack the Ignalion itself.
"I'd like to leave this one up to Ignalion." Bobby said, standing by and watching his strongest Pokemon take on the pack leader. The two Ignalion were evenly matched, matching eachother's attacks perfectly.
"Ignalion, finish it off!" Bobby commanded. "Ignited Charge!" Bobby's Ignalion began to glow intensely as it charged forward, ramming into the larger Ignalion with a fiery, sparking charge. The enemy Ignalion fell to the ground, defeated.
"Good job, Ignalion!" Bobby congratulated his Pokemon as he and the other trainers returned all of their tired Pokemon to their Pokeballs. The group walked past the line on the ground, entering the Hiraisui Triangle. Oddly, the inside of the triangle was a pleasant meadow, despite its surroundings. Sure enough, in the center of the meadow was a small log cabin.
"Looks like they weren't lying after all." Bobby thought aloud as the group approached the small shack. Suddenly, a large fireball descended from the sky, incinerating the cabin in an instant.
"What the heck?!" Matt wondered as the entire group looked to see the source of the fireball. A large, draconic figure flew above the volcanic mountain, cloaked by the constant stream of lava.
"Oh, did I say that Sir Michael's cabin was in the Hiraisui Triangle?" Came the red-clothed man's voice. "I'm sorry, I meant to say that the decoy cabin was in the Hiraisui Triangle."
"What?!" Bobby was confused and angry.
"Don't take your back off of your enemy." Came the voice of the man who had sat in the yellow chair. A large lightningbolt came flying from the mountain covered in thunderstorms, striking the ground just behind the group. They turned once again to see yet another draconic figure, masked by the dark clouds of the thunderstorm mountain.
"Sorry, I don't have a witty catchphrase." Came the voice of the girl in the blue robes, whom the group had not heard speak before. large shards of ice came flying in from the direction of the snowy mountain, surrounding the group in an icy prison. The trainers turned for a third time, and to noone's surprise, saw a third dragon, hidden in a cloak of snow.
"What the heck? What is this?!" Matt shouted.
"Isn't it obvious? It's an ambush." The man on the fiery dragon replied.
"Why?" Elissa questioned, confused as to why the people Michael had put in charge of Team Rocket were attacking them.
"Let's keep things on a need to know basis, shall we?" The man responded. "And all you need to know...is that you're about to die!" All three dragons launched attacks of their element, aimed at the group.
"Prepare yourselves!" Bobby cried, lifting the red staff into the air.

Note: The Red Draconic Knight's line, "Sacrifice a pawn to bring back our Rook", refers to the act of "Promotion" in chess. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_(chess)
Note: Ignalion leading the group of electric and fire Pokemon at the Hiraisui Triangle is a reference to Esepibe's upcoming infection. ^_^
Note: Ignited Charge is not a real move, blahblahblahblahblah.

w00t, that was great :D (thats probaly getting old by now ;/)
How come you didn't show Nicholas though? ;/

If Tess is a few years younger than the staff weilders... Then she's older than me. -_-

Good chapter

Well, she was introduced back in the original EL, where she was actually the correct age. This is fifteen years later, so she's fifteen years older. You, on the other hand, were just introduced in ELOA, so your age is represented for the first time here, hence your character's age.

Chapter 14

"Prepare yourselves!" Bobby cried as the three dragons' elemental attacks came spiraling toward him and his friends. All of their Pokemon had been weakened from the battle with the fire and electric Pokemon that guarded the entrance to the Hiraisui Triangle, and they wouldn't stand a chance against these powerful foes.
"Watch this!" Matt exclaimed. As a large bolt of lightning drew closer and closer to him, he jumped into the air and did a midair spin, swinging his staff out in front of him. He continued to spin, practically defying gravity, until a small tornado was created by his movement. The lightningbolt hit the tornado, spun around in it for a few rotations, and was deflected back at its source.
"What?!" The man on the dragon of lightning was shocked, and quickly ordered his mount to get out of the way. The dragon agilely flew sideways, dodging its own attack. Meanwhile, Bobby met the incoming blast of icy shards with an equally powerful blast of fire. Not only did the fire melt the oncoming attack, but it also melted the large plates of ice that had been stuck into the ground to act as an ice prison.
"What about the fire?!" Jeremy was worried about the incredibly large fireball heading straight for the group of trainers.
"Leave it to me." Nosfrostu smirked as she extended her arms and her icy chakrams appeared in her hands. She jumped into the trajectory of the fireball and lifted her chakrams in front of her body, as if bracing herself. Suddenly, her chakrams began to glow with an intense bluish light as she flew forward and extended her arms, slashing through the fireball in an X shape. As she reached the other side of the massive flame, it disappeared completely, as if extinguished by some unseen force.
"What?! How did you do that?!" The man on the fiery dragon was as surprised as the man on the thunder dragon.
"You haven't seen anything yet." Nosfrostu charged forward at blinding speed, and appeared in front of the stream of lava that cloaked the dragon almost instantly. She swung her chakrams at the dragon without making contact, and although it couldn't be seen due to the cloak of lava, its screams of pain echoed throughout the triangle. Not even stopping for a moment, Nosfrostu flew backwards in order to put some distance between herself and her opponent, then launched her glowing weapons, which sliced through the lava as if it was butter and slashed at the dragon's body. Severely damaged by the attack, the dragon began to plummet into the volcano below, while the man in red desperately tried to hold onto its back.
"Oh no you don't." Nosfrostu's chakrams flew back to her, and she threw them once again, this time at the mouth of the volcano. In an instant, the top of the volcano had frozen over completely, and the flow of lava stopped. The magma within the volcano tried as hard as it could to melt its way through the sheet of ice, but the ice was so cold that even the blazing hot magma froze the instant it touched it. The fiery dragon crashed into the sheet of lava, and its rider was sent flying off of its back and off of the mountain. With its cloak of lava gone, the fiery dragon's form was revealed. Its scales were red and orange, and its form was close to that of a typical western dragon. It had two long, ivory horns sticking out of the back of its head, and its brilliant red wings, as well as its four legs, were partially cloaked in flame. It had a long, spiky tail, and long, sharp teeth.
"I've got you!" The man in yellow shouted. The lightning dragon flew out of its stormy cover to save the man in the red clothes, revealing its form. Its scales were yellow and golden, and its form was less spiky than that of the red dragon, but it still looked similar. Its body structure still resembled a western dragon, but its wings were smaller and less grand than those of the red dragon, and it had no spikes on its smooth head. Its neck was slightly longer than the red dragon's, which was practically nonexistant, and its tail was longer as well. A single spike, greatly resembling an arrowhead, adorned the tip of its tail. While it lacked the bodily spikes of the red dragon, it did have long, ferocious-looking claws on both its feet and its hands. It dove under the falling man, catching him on its back.
"How did you do that?!" Jeremy asked. Nosfrostu's friends were as shocked as her enemies.
"I have fought with Vampyro many times before," Nosfrostu explained, "I have experience against fiery enemies."
"This is so lame." The woman in the blue dress sighed. A gigantic version of an Ice Beam attack shot out of the blizzard that cloaked her and her dragon, aimed at the group of trainers, who were still admiring Nosfrostu's skills.
"Look out!" Matt was the first to notice the incoming blast.
"Watch this." Bobby smirked, waving the red staff out in front of him. The tip of the staff began to glow, and a beam of bright red energy shot forth from the staff. The red beam met the Ice Beam head on, and completely overpowered it, causing it to disperse. The red beam kept going, hitting the icy dragon in the stomach and melting the surrounding blizzard. With the blizzards gone, the third dragon's form was revealed. Its scales were icy blue and white, and its body structure was similar to the other two dragons. Its tail was about the length of the red dragon's, and its body was slightly smaller. Its wings were each nearly double the size of its body, and their backs were adorned with small spikes. Other than those on its wings, its body bore no spikes, and its ribcage could be faintly seen through its thin flesh. Its claws and teeth were not as long or sharp as those of the yellow dragon, but were longer and sharper than the red dragon.
"Well, looks like our disguises are gone." The girl on the icy dragon commented apathetically.
"Try to show a little more enthusiasm!" The man in the red robes exclaimed as he boarded his dragon, who had just recovered from Nosfrostu's attack. "You are one of the mighty Draconic Knights!"
"Whatever." The girl yawned as she flung her arm out and ordered her dragon to attack. This time, Bobby raised his staff above his head, causing a bubble of fire to appear around the group. The ice attack melted as it hit the shield, but the shield prevented the group from seeing the attacks being launched by the dragons of fire and lightning. Nosfrostu, who was still seperated from the group, flew into the path of the fire attack and countered it, but the lightning attack continued unopposed. Nosfrostu began to fly toward the ground, even though she knew she wouldn't be able to cut off the lightningbolt in time.
"Look out!" Nosfrostu warned her comrades. Bobby lowered his shield of flame, and Matt faced the lightningbolt, ready to counter it. He raised his staff, to make it act like a lightningrod, and the bolt of lightning took the bait. Mere moments before the bolt hit his staff, he jumped into the air, and the bolt hit the ground harmlessly.
"They're good." The man on the dragon of fire commented.
"Perhaps we should change our tactic." The man on the dragon of lightning suggested.
"Good idea," The man in red agreed, "Let's go."
"Whatever." The girl on the dragon of ice responded. The dragons flew back to their respective mountains and faced the sky, as if calling to something. Huge balls of energy appeared in the dragons' mouths, their colors matching those of the dragon conjuring them. Two lines of white light shot from each orb, connecting with the lines emitted by the other orbs and forming a triangle of light along the boundaries of the Hiraisui triangle.
"Well, this doesn't look good." Matt commented, looking up and watching the dragons prepare to attack.
"Firagon!" The man in red shouted as the triangle of energy ascended into the sky.
"Thundrake!" The man in yellow added.
"And Wyvrice." The girl in blue continued, uninterested as always.
"Tri-Attack!" The three Draconic Knights finished, extending their arms toward the center of the circle. The triangle of energy shrunk slightly, so that it was smaller than the boundaries of the Hiraisui Triangle, and shot downward quickly.
"Anyone got a plan?" Matt asked casually.
"Nothing in particular," Bobby replied, "Do you?"
"Nope, I was hoping you did." Matt answered. The attack continued to descend rapidly, and the group was running out of time.
"Looks like it's on me, then." Elissa sighed. She raised her staff into the air, and three lavender hands shot out of it. The hands each flew toward one of the orbs of colored energy, as if to try and catch them. Instead, the hands plunged into the orbs, and the movement of the triangle ceased.
"What?!" The man in red was flabbergasted.
"Boom." Elissa flicked her hand with a small grin. The orbs of energy exploded harmlessly in the air, and the lines of white light shattered as if they were solid.
"How did you...?!" The man in yellow was equally shocked.
"I haven't just been sitting around doing nothing all these years," Elissa said triumphantly, "In addition to controlling animate and inanimate objects and creating solidified manifestations of energy, I can use my staff's power to manipulate formless masses of energy."
"Wow." Even Bobby was impressed.
"Well, this isn't good." The man in yellow commented.
"Looks like your little chess metaphor turned against you!" The girl in the blue dress was actually chuckling slightly. "Alone, they're all small pieces, but together, they can overthrow even the Queen!"
"Tch...it looks like we'll have to retreat...for now." Firagon's rider decided. With a wave of his hand, the three dragons took off, flying back toward Balankou City.
"Should we chase them?" Nosfrostu asked.
"Let them go," Bobby replied, "Finding Michael is still our top priority."

"This is so awesome!" The grunt exclaimed, even though noone else was around. He had been sent to Skuakko Island by the Draconic Knights on a top-secret mission, and he considered it to be a huge step forward in his career. "I wonder why they chose me? Maybe I'm going to get a promotion!" His Altaria climbed higher and higher, finally reaching the peak of the volcanic mountain.
"Woah!" The grunt exclaimed upon seeing the sheet of ice covering the volcano. "That's insane!" He carefully climbed onto the sheet of ice, cautiously making sure he didn't slip. As soon as he got his footing, he returned his Altaria to its Pokeball.
"Let's see...what did she say?" He tried to recall the female Knight's instructions. "Oh yeah, melt the ice with the fire Pokemon she gave me." He reached into the small knapsack on his back, pulled out six Pokeballs, and threw them into the air. In a flash, the six Pokemon materialized on the ice in front of him. The orange canine with black stripes, Arcanine; the slug made of magma, Magcargo; the red camel with small volcanoes on its back, Camerupt; the red and yellow humanshape with cannon-like arms, Magmortar; the crimson moose with fireballs in its antlers, Flamoose; and the wolf made of blue and white fire, Wolflame. None of the Pokemon even began to slip on the ice, as their paws, feet, and hooves radiated heat that immediately began to melt the frozen water.
"Okay, everyone, melt the ice!" The grunt commanded. Surprisingly, the fire Pokemon did as they were told, probably because they had been instructed to by their real trainer. The combined power of the Pokemon's fire attacks was enough to melt the ice, but as soon as the surface they had been standing on melted, the Pokemon began to fall.
"Gah! I didn't think about the possibility that this might happen!" The grunt exclaimed as he, too, began to fall down into the belly of the tall volcano. "At least I can save the Pokemon...!" Frantically, he grabbed the Pokeballs from the knapsack and returned the Pokemon to them, but his hands couldn't hold all the Pokeballs, and they fell out of his reach, moving faster than the more air-resistant human.
"No! Altaria!" The man grabbed the Pokeball that remained secure on his belt and threw it into the air, releasing his flying Pokemon. It quickly caught its master, then dove down, aiming for the falling Pokeballs. Gracefully, it flew under all of them, allowing the grunt to catch them in his arms. Its mission complete, altaria folded its wings into a circle around its body, in order to act like a parachute. The grunt placed the rescued Pokeballs back in the knapsack as Altaria gently drifted toward the ground. When the shock of the fiasco with the Pokeballs finally left, the man realized that the bottom of the volcano was completely frozen, like the top had been, and there was no sign of magma anywhere.
"What the heck?" He wondered as his Altaria landed on the slippery surface, maintaining its balance. The floor was covered in ice, as were the walls for a good fifty feet. In the center of the volcano's base was a humanoid figure, crystalized in ice. It laid motionless on the ground, one of its arms stretched upward in vain. Upon closer examination, the humanoid appeared to have large wings, which were spread out on either side of its body. In the center of its chest was a small crack in the ice, which, if it could be viewed from the right angle, would look like the dendrite of a snowflake.
"This must be the guy...that's weird, are those wings? Maybe he's some humanshape Pokemon, or something..." The grunt scratched his head, remembering his instructions. "Let's see...I'm supposed to put the thing she gave me in the little slot in his chest." He reached into the knapsack once again, this time pulling out a cold pack and some gloves. He put the obviously heat-resistant gloves on his hands and opened the cold pack, reaching in and pulling out a glowing object shaped exactly like a key that would fit into the crack in the ice. Steam rose as the incredibly hot object was removed from its cold container, and the man set the cold pack on the ground so that he could handle the object with both hands. With extreme caution, he inserted the key into the crack and stepped back, as he had been instructed to do. A loud cracking noise was heard, and the ice surrounding the figure shattered into millions of pieces. Vampyro's eyes opened immediately as his icy prison disappeared, and he stood up, flapping his wings to shake off any remaining shards of ice.
"Woah!" The grunt exclaimed, surprised.
"And just who are you?" Vampyro wondered.
"M-My name's Walker," The grunt replied, "I was sent here by the higher-ups, to free you, or something."
"Ah, you must be the grunt that she promised..." Vampyro recalled, "The sacrifice."
"The what?" Walker was puzzled. Vampyro flexed his muscles and flapped his wings, and out of nowhere, a column of magma shot forth from the ground, shooting out the top of the volcano.
"I'm back, baby!" Vampyro laughed maniacally as he rose above his pillar of lava, his fiery shuriken in hand.

"And with that, the rook returns to the board." The woman in the white kimono said as the white pawn that had reached the back row of the chess board and the white rook to the side of the board floated through the air, switching places. She looked to the man in the black cloak, the only other Knight still in the room.
"You haven't said anything since Sir Michael's friends came here," The woman commented, "Are you alright?"
"Knight. Sword. Danger." The black Knight responded in a quiet voice. In a flash, he disappeared.

"I can't believe it," David said to himself, "First I get kicked out of Olemenun Academy, now I get kicked out of their stupid little group...darnitall." He walked down the winding mountain path, completely unaware that he was being watched.
"I've got you now." The boy hiding in the large tree thought aloud. As David passed the tree, he jumped down, his feet making a loud noise as he hit the ground.
"What was that?" David turned around to see Nicholas standing on the path behind him. "Nicholas? What the heck are you doing here?"
"Killing you." Nicholas replied, throwing Michael's Pokeball into the air. In a flash of red light, the thirteen-tailed evolution of Ninetales with red-orange fur, Infernox, appeared between Nicholas and David.
"What the heck? Where did you get that?!" David wondered, shocked to see the strong Pokemon in Nicholas's possesion.
"Michael gave it to me," Nicholas replied, "And I thought it'd be the perfect thing to use to take you out."
"Bring it on." David drew his sword without even considering using his Pokemon instead.
"Excellent choice, moron," Nicholas taunted, "You're going to fight Infernox yourself instead of sending out your Pokemon. How very...you." He pointed his finger at David, commanding Infernox to attack.
"Infernox! Fire Blast!" He commanded. Infernox opened its mouth wide, letting loose a powerful blast of flame.
"Hyah!" David charged forward, swinging his sword around madly.
Sizzle!
The fire attack fizzled as it hit the gleaming wall of black scales. David had been wrapped up in a long, thick black tail, and he was now floating several feet off of the ground.
"What the...?" David wondered, looking at the owner of the tail that had grabbed him. The large dragon stood on two of its thin legs with clawed feet, and it stood very tall, taller than any of the other dragons would if they stood on their hind legs. It had a similar body structure to the other dragons and had pitch-black scales, a dark green belly, and some dark green scales on the bottom of its tail. Its wings were broad, and its body was quite simple, bearing no spikes or excess features. Its wings were out in front of it, and Infernox's attack had hit the scales on the back of them. It had two long, curled horns, like those of a ram, on the back of its head, and its long tongue hung out of its fang-lined mouth. On its head stood the man in the cloak, the black Draconic Knight.
"Who are you?!" Nicholas demanded.
"Pawn. Die. Rook. Live. Shadyrm. Attack." The knight replied quietly. His dragon drew back its wings, and it outstretched its long neck, opening its mouth wide and preparing to attack.
"Crap." Nicholas muttered as soon as he realized that the man on the dragon was his enemy. "Dandilyon, get me out of here! Fluffy Escape!" He threw a Pokeball into the air, and it opened up to reveal a small lion cub Pokemon with yellow fur. Its body structure was similar to Cubburn's, but slightly longer, and its mane was made of white dandelion petals surrounding its face. At the tip of its long tail was a small dandelion clock. The Pokemon began to shake vigorously, and an endless number of achenes flew into the air, forming a fluffy wall in front of Nicholas, Infernox, and Dandilyon. Shadyrm launched a blast of dark fire, but by the time it hit the wall of fluff, Nicholas and his Pokemon were gone.
"Darn." The man on Shadyrm's head said.
"Who are you?" David, who was still tied up in Shadyrm's tail, asked its rider.
"We go. Headquarters." The man in the cloak replied. Shadyrm took to the skies, flying back toward Balankou City.

"You're a very fast learner." Michael told Stephen. They stood several feet away from eachother, and were still training in the empty white room. Stephen was panting for breath, but it seemed that Michael hadn't even broken a sweat.
"Thanks." Stephen responded as he tried to catch his breath.
"I think you're ready to begin training on the next level." Michael decided.
"You mean...?"
"Yes," Michael answered, "With your staff's powers."
"But the staff hasn't activated yet." Stephen reminded Michael.
"I know," Michael replied, "So you'll have to..." A knock on the door interrupted Michael.
"It's me!" Hector announced.
"Come in." Michael responded. Hector walked in, examining the lack of decor in the room. "What's up?"
"I've made a breakthrough on the project." Hector answered.
"Excellent!" Michael exclaimed.
"But, in order to progress any further, I'm going to need some Pokemon data." Hector informed Michael.
"One of the computers has data on every species of Pokemon," Michael replied, "Even the one-of-a-kind ones."
"That's not the type of data I need," Hector explained, "I need data pertaining to the emotions of Pokemon."
"Ooh...well, I'm afraid I can't help you there." Michael responded.
"That's what I figured," Hector replied, "So I'd like to go into the field and collect some data by watching trainers with their Pokemon."
"Sure, go ahead. You don't need my permission for that."
"Thank you." Hector left the room and closed the door behind him, leaving Michael and Stephen alone once again.
"So, as I was saying," Michael began again, "The other staff wielders think that one must have a near-death experience in order for his or her staff to activate, but that is not true. The previous owner of that staff you're holding and I are the only people that figured that out."
"Really?" Stephen was interested, as he always was when people talked about legends like those about the staves.
"Really. The staves activate when their owner's emotions are taken to the extreme," Michael explained, "Any emotion. For me, it was rage. Hatred. And I'm sensing that it will be the same for you."
"What?" Stephen was caught off guard by the statement. "What do you mean? I'm not that angry about anything."
"Yes...you are," Michael disagreed, "I know because you're exactly like myself when I was your age."
"Just because I have a Nightture, that doesn't mean..."
"It's not the Nightture," Michael interrupted, "It's the emotions that Nightture takes advantage of. I'm sure you know that Vuldusk and its evolutions have the power to magnify the negative emotions in a person."
"Yes."
"Well, there's one emotion in particular that they have an incredibly easy time taking advantage of. The pain...of loss."
"The pain of loss?" Stephen wondered. "Do you mean...Chey?"
"Exactly," Michael confirmed, "You lost someone that you cared very, very deeply for...whether you showed it or not. And as a result, your heart became very unstable...and your negative emotions swelled. The difference between you and I is that you are trying to conceal those emotions...hide them...but you can't hide them from your Nightture."
"How do you know all of this?!" Stephen stepped back, shocked by how much Michael knew.
"I told you," Michael replied, "Because you are like me. I, too, lost someone very dear to me...fifteen years ago. Not long before I received my staff...not long before I received my Vuldusk."
"...Fine. So you know what I'm going through," Stephen said, "But what does that have to do with anything? How does that help me activate my staff?"
"For someone with such strong negative emotions, you must do what I did," Michael explained, "You must harness the power of your pain and your hatred...and use it as a tool. If you do...an unimaginable power can become yours."
"Y'know, your mind is a lot darker than you let on when I first met you." Stephen commented.
"A front is often necessary," Michael replied, "So people don't get concerned or anything like that." Stephen shrugged.
"So, what do I have to do to harness my hatred?"
"That question would be best directed to your Nightture," Michael answered, "Or should I say Duskarrion. By now, it should've evolved."
"Awesome." Stephen responded.
"Now go. Let Duskarrion be your guide."
"Right." Stephen nodded his head and exited the room, heading outside.
Michael left the room shortly after and walked to a nearby window, where he saw Stephen fly off on Duskarrion's back. He then walked down the hallway and entered another room. This room had a green carpet floor, and the walls were lined with cabinets. Photo albums were scattered across the floor, and a single white, wooden chair sat in the center of the room. Michael walked over to the chair and sat down, picking up a nearby photo album. The book was filled with photographs of a young boy and girl, probably about thirteen or fourteen years old. The boy had messy brown hair and wore a black shirt and white shorts, and the girl had long blonde hair and wore a light green tank top and blue jeans. The photographs captured the children playing at a park; swinging on the swings, racing down a hill, hiding in a play structure, and more. Michael flipped through the pages, finally reaching the last page, which showed the boy and girl kissing. Tiny droplets of water hit the laminated pages, making small splashes as they hit.
"...Shayna..."

Note: In case it hasn't been too clear (Which it probably hasn't, in some cases - for example, the black knight is pretty hard to understand), the "chess pieces" in the Knights' metaphor that have been revealed so far are as follows:
White Queen - Draconic Knights
White Rook - Vampyro
White Knight - David
White Pawn (eliminated) - Walker, the grunt who was sent to free Vampyro
Black Pawn (eliminated) - Katie
Black Pawn - Nicholas
In addition, one other black pawn and two other white pawns have been eliminated from the board, but their identities are currently unrevealed.

Note: Alright, I'm almost positive that the word "dendrite" confused some of you. When referring to a snowflake, they're the "arms"...basically, the pointy parts of Nosfrostu's snowflake chakrams.
Note: Fluffy Escape is not a real attack, blahdiblahblah...and heck, if Hydrogen/Oxygen was really, it prolly wouldnt even be an attack in that - it's totally lame. XD. I just came up with it because Nicholas needed to escape, and a Pokemon like Dandilyon can't exactly use smokescreen or teleport or anything like that...and no, don't suggest roar - this is a fanfiction, not the gameboy games, and honestly, a roar from a weakling like dandilyon wouldn't scare a Pokemon like Shadyrm in reality.
Note: I know Dandelion petals are yellow...but the fact that Dandilyon's are white is because its young. Its evolved form's are yellow. Also, the "dandelion clock" is what you call the form of dandelion that is like a little globe - yknow, the kind children blow apart for fun. "Achene" refers to a single part of the dandelion clock, containing the seed and the little fluffy top thingy. See? Look at that. You're learning biology by reading this story.
Note: Yes, I know, you were looking forward to seeing how Chey was involved with Brandon's acquaintance. I was going to put it in this chapter, but I just thought that Michael flipping through the photo album would be a great place to end the chapter. The explanation you've been waiting for will be next chapter, but that's not all. In fact, I've got a corny little tagline to go with the next chapter, just because I think it's so awesome.
Next time on Elemental Legacies, Olemenun Academy: Old habits die hard. Old hatreds die harder.
