The really odd thing about the "official" US pronunciation of "Rayquaza" being 'Ray-kway-zuh' is that the Japanese name is spelled "Re i ku wa za". Draw your own conclusion.

What is the "Official" pronounciation of Kyogre? I say Ki-og-ree(with the i pronounced like the y in sky and the o being said like in the word open)
I also say Pij-e-aught. (Pij-eot)

If you're Japanese. From what little dubbed Pocket Monsters I've seen I like the Japanese names. Juptile and Jukain ftw.
 
I've got plenty of people saying "skeptile," which I assume is incorrect, unless the English language has bamboozled me once again.
 
I'm pretty sure that Sceptile is just Scent + Reptile, so yeah, I don't understand pronouncing the c.

I also don't get why some people say "Metagrahss". Meta + gross (pronounced like "Eww, gross!", except that here it's synonymous with "Total" or "Earn", fitting the general archetype of hard-to-train-Pokemon-that's-listed-near-the-end-of-its-generation's-Pokedex)

"Gai" to my way of reading things rhymes with "guy" though. I guess you could say "geigh" and have it rhyme with "sleigh", but that seems kind of an inelequent way to write it. "Gei" would work, but I'm too used to the "ei" combination making a long "A" sound, so I don't know how many people think of it like that besides me.

For the record, way I pronounce it is, in order of vowels: Short E, short A, long E, short U. "MEH-gah-nee-um". Emphasis on first syllable, second syllable short and clipped. So similar to the style you quoted from Chris, I suppose.
 
I think jirachi is pronounced as Ji-La-Chi.

Tagarinth, what are you basing the "official" pronunciation of Rayquaza on. Surely not "Destiny Deoxys"?? According to the battle dictionary, it is pronounced the way most americans have been pronouncing it. Ironically, it seems that someone made a mistake here when the character was initally given an English name. The Japanese Katakana characters for "wa" and "u" (pronouced oo, as in tool) are very similar. Somehow, that's why rekuuza in Japan became rayquaza here--a missing stroke!!

Serenade, where are you getting an "L" in jirachi?? For the last time folks, the "l" and "r" sound in Japanese is actually neither. It's a hybrid sound made by flicking the tip of your tongue against the back of the upper teeth. R or L is perfectly acceptable when it is romanized. So, Lucario is fine, as is Jirachi. Gojira/Godzilla FTW!!

I totally heard Joy and Haruka say "gah" in episode 161 of Advance Generation. I like the Japanese pronounciation more, personally.

Chris, you are corrrect, sir!! Japanese would never, ever place a stress on an internal syllable like we do. Note the emphasis on syllable 2 of "Meganium" in the English version. Each syllable should receive approximately equal stress in Japanese. But, realize that their is a difference between pronouncing these names correctly in Japanese and pronouncing them correctly in English. The car company we call "Toy-o-ta" is a great example.
