Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Texas State Championship ~ March 19, 2011

On my way to dallas with a couple of friends. Any one by chance on the amtrak train going to dallas? Get a few battles going?

Musings of the 6th best player in Texas -

My last years showing proves I am the sixth best player in Texas. People ask me - will you be sad when the year ends and you no longer can say you are the sixth best player in Texas. I say no - as I plan to improve on that showing in this years tournament. But, as I move up through the ranks, I want to tell the next 6th pbest person in texas what they can expect form this year:
1) I rmemeber someone told me i couldn;t stand in a particular spot at a sport event - I said "Do you realize you are talking to the 6th best pokemon player in Texas - I can stand where I want". Then, someone had the audacity to serve me cold fires ast a fast food restaurant. I took them back to the counter and said - 'I realize these cold fried are acceptable to the general public, this swill you are serving is fine for them, but I am the sixth best pokemon player in Texas so you are going to have to make some fresh fries for me". One time this guy told me I had to wear a short for serfvice, I was like, normal people do, but I am the sixth best pokemon player in Texas so the rules do not apply to me.

Yes - I will miss being the sixth best player in Texas. Luckily there is still one day left to gloat.

me, my bro, and 3 other guys are all coming repping oklahoma actually.

we don't run away, we divide and conquer. ;)

hope i can find three rare candies before reigistration... if you are willing to sell or trade so i can get some before registration, let me know!!!

I completely agree with those words. I have had a similar experience that's multiplied since I actually won it. I have done my best to keep a level head about winning States, mainly because it was my first (and still only) tournament win. I've had my moment in sun and enjoyed it. But, I'm not going to make the mistake (or at least try not to) be caught up in what happened last year and feel a sense of entitlement to have things go my way. I'm pretty sure that I will have a hard time in getting back to where I was last year, mainly because people are aware of what I "may" do.

With that being said, good luck to everyone that will make out there tomorrow. I'm sure that this will be a great tournament that will leave everyone telling their own stories at the end of it like always. :thumb::cool:

"keep a level head"

How exactly does one "keep a level head" when there's good amount of pressure.

Do you keep quite during a battle and even more after? Or do you do a little bit of taunting to keep things interesting? And after the battle, do you go to your friends to report on the battle?
Also, does this maybe give you some overconfidence? And if you become overconfident do you initially lose the battle? Or do just take a deep breath and remember that you need to stay calm and collected to focus on the battle?

So, here's the question: How do you stay focused in battle? And if you're focused, do you win the battle?

I can give a big no to that question. I've witnessed a match where the winner was completely unfocused, while the loser couldn't make a wrong move. It's all about what your deck gives you. Plain and simple.

I'm pretty sure that I will have a hard time in getting back to where I was last year:

I can see now that my audacity is needed in this situation to overcome your modesty. Let me explain.

It seems I am unable to get the last Donphan and some BTS so I am not going with Donpahn. I am going back to last years 6th place deck – gengar with double mewtwo. Because more important to me than how well I do is that anyone playing Luxray leaves my game with that little yellow tail dragging between their legs. Because when I beat a Luxchomp player I respectfully shake their hand, but inside my head fireworks are going off, ballons are released and the can-can girls are dancing. And when I lose to Luxchomp, rest assured the tears are real.

Luxchomp is the enemy. But heres the secret – very few of them play counters. They talk a big game, but at a big tournament, when you bust out the double mewtwo with that Bebes waiting in your hand – the truth comes out. They did not play the counter. Therefore, after you and I blow through the Luxchompers, its gonna be me and you at table one for the final match. And when they raise my hand high, and you hand me the crown, the world will know that Luxchomp is not welcome in Texas, because Texas is better than Luxchomp.

I have plenty of rare candy I would love to part with.
